I didn't want the end of everything to end!

If you participated in this challenge, do you like these kinds of open-ended prompts or prefer the ones that are like "use this scale!"?

MARCH 2026 musical challenge submissions review: The End Of Everything

Wow y'all. I know this was tough and time intensive! Bravo!

Thankyou kindly for the feedback and no, you're not harsh, I was playing upon something I said to one of the newcomers about never having asked for brutal feedback before. :) Perhaps unhelpfully, I like both types of prompt. This one was good because it made me think more about a soundscape, the scale ones are good because it gives me some structure to work around. I guess if I was forced to pick only one type forever it'd probably be this open-ended type, but I would miss the structural ones.

Awesome job, everyone who submitted! Once again, y'all are very talented folks. I'm a fan of both kinds of prompts. They both cause me to work towards a set goal that I otherwise might not have. Maybe alternate between the two?

Holy poop, @ The God Particle! Where can I find more of your songs?

Mark Fergel

What's cool about all of this is, as musicians, most of us are probably sitting in our homes creating for ourselves. It's nice to have something where we can share our creations with others.

...and I love some of these tunes and where you hear something and think "Why didn't I come up with that?" So many great tunes from everyone.

Fantastic work, everybody! I like any challenge that requires me to write an original song. I prefer those to the challenges where part of the song is already written, like this month's challenge to harmonize a preexisting melody. I like prompts that allow for some musical or thematic direction while getting me to produce a new, original song. This one was lots of fun, thanks!

I am not some scientist who knows things like chords and scales. This was a much easier prompt to work with for me. That said more specific prompts would require me to learn more to attempt them with confidence. This prompt was the prompt I want, probably not the prompt I need though.

What an awfully mature perspective!

Hi Mark! I spelled your name wrong (Fergle instead of Fergel) when writing timestamps. Now I see the right spelling, so apologies and it'll be right from now on. Have a nice weekend!
