but I love plants <3 Outdoor ones, too! I kinda want to show you the front of the house though, it is TEEMING with life and roses and spring flowers. Should I do a part 2? I won't spam you with this, just thought I'd share another part of my life! Sorry for the headphoneless jumpscare ;)

Oh yay! I'm doing my second year of a vegetable and herb garden. Yours is so pretty!

ixi music

Ooh what are you growing? I've got a single cherry tomato in a container for this year, and there is thyme from the previous resident under the pomegranate tree.

Mark Fergel

That is a big area and quite a variety of plants. Mmmmm....the jasmine. I did most of mine last year but planted a couple of things and a harsh winter killed one of my crepe myrtles. :( Planted my "salsa" garden last week and of course we've been having a drought.

Meemorp

It does! I recently developed an affinity for native plants, so I greatly appreciated this. Future "garden updates" are totally welcome, by me at least.

beatcomber

That looks like fun stuff. I did not see many lizards around though.

ixi music

Salsa garden as in ingredients for salsa? Love that. I hope your weather luck turns around! Yes a wide variety indeed. I'm trying to plant a shade garden to nourish the native birds and pollinators. I'm so excited to see what happens!

ixi music

I saw a lizard today by my hose! And on the 2nd floor balcony. They go where the yummy insects are. Hopefully there will be more once this area is filled with birds 'n' bugs :)

ixi music

Yay! I'm trying to fight back agains America's obsession with grass lawns lol. I'm learning so much about natives from the ID apps when I'm on hikes, and a few Facebook groups.

Meemorp

Not sure if you're familiar with a channel called "Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't", but it might be up your alley. I believe he's based down here in south Texas, and his channel got me into the whole "Kill Your Lawn" thing lol. His humor is pretty sardonic and cynical, but I've learned a great deal about plants that actually thrive in the intense weather here.

Mark Fergel

Yes. Jalapenos, different peppers, tomatoes, etc. Some basil thrown in because I love make fresh margarita pizza. I love that you're planting stuff for the birds and bees. I did the same (more so for the bees). It's fun to just watch them hop from flower to flower. :)

beatcomber

His videos are great. Some cheap ways to go around the globe and learn about plants.

Tracy Blackburn

I've got a bunch of potatoes, tomatoes (3 varieties), peppers, basil, rosemary, garlic chives, thyme, sage, and I just planted a bunch of radishes, carrots and broccoli. Hopefully I can keep the birds off them!

Tracy Blackburn

Oooh, and I just got some trellises for cukes and beans. I figure as long as I've got room, I may as well make use of it! Look forward to seeing yours grow!

beatcomber

I'd like to eat Tacos on the street From a salsa garden Freshly made

Jon Power

Love it ixi! My wife and I have been planting an increasingly ambitious vegetable garden for the past 12 years! Any issues with weeds?

Klors

Yes to a part two, please. The butterflies are out at the moment on my plants, but I need a new lavender for them.

Julia Papps

Can we have class outside? And yes to this development.

Leanne

Definitely wanna see more.

Mark Fergel

I had to pull out all of my lavender a few weeks ago. Extremely disappointed. I need to make some changes in my landscaping so I can put some back.

Justin Blumberg

I see a future where ixi is on HGTV hosting IxI's Home and Garden. Super cool. Ixi must now compose music for plant-life. Beat you to it, Eno!

NicTunes

You're more than welcome to share some garden updates with me, ixi. I'm very interested in hearing about your hobbies outside of music :) Sign me up to the Pax and Milo newsletter while you're at it, please! It's safe to say I'm fully invested in seeing how your garden transforms after watching this short clip. The kitties are going to have the time of their lives roaming through all the vegetation when everything's been planted! I can't wait to see what you do with it :) Do you get a lot of wildlife in your area?

ixi music

Nice! What're you growing? Yeah there have been some unwanted plants. I removed all the ligustrum - it's from China and incredibly invasive. There's a prolific stronghold of beggar's lice below that garden bed I've been slowly pulling up. If I could just find someone in the neighborhood with a bunny, they apparently love to eat the foliage! In the front, I pulled up some kind of Bermuda or St. Augustine grass from a previous owner, before it was hardscaped for gardening. Otherwise the only "unwanted" plants are baby trees from the big mamas up above. Live oaks and red oaks. They are just in bad spots. Once you see the pictures of the front you'll see why "weeds" aren't really an issue. Things have a very "wild" feeling :)

ixi music

Ha, don't tempt me to unleash the kitty updates! I'm excited to take progress pictures and then see how it all started! Unfortunately the kitties will not be in the vegetation :( They are indoor only cats for many reasons. They have a balcony and a screened porch for that "outdoor but indoor" feel, but they are far too unpredictable, easily spooked, and self-sacrificial hunters to keep contained otherwise. Yes we have coyotes, lizards, geckos, birds (there's a hawk and an owl in the neighborhood), and plenty of insects. I saw some kind of honey bee in my roses yesterday. I've been battling the fire ants for a few weeks.

ixi music

Honestly plant composer does seem to be a likely future for me lol

ixi music

If the mosquitos aren't biting! But the screened porch is an alternative we could try :)

ixi music

I just found that channel in the past day or so! Yes!

ixi music

oooh I'm curious how things go with the radishes and broccoli! I grew cucumbers one time and the got a virus. I got one single fruit. It was tasty, at least! Hope you have better luck. Bean flowers are sooo pretty! I'll bet those will grow beautifully.

Julia Papps

Now you’re just bragging. 😂🌻💗

Klors

that's a shame it's such a lovely plant, hope you manage to get them back in

Jon Power

So it looks like we’re on the same page with the whole ‘weeds’ thing. Kind of a bullshit term… just plants you don’t want right there. It is tough though if you don’t get the rogue plants under control. They pull a lot of nutrients out of the soil for everything else that you’re trying to grow. We typically do potatoes, onions, peppers, eggplant, squash, and a metric ass ton of different types of tomatoes. And then will usually throw in something different every year that we’ve never tried. Also a lot of leafy stuff like spinach and kale. Also stuff that works for pickling, too like cucumbers.

Jon Power

The big invasive plant that we have here in New England is Japanese knot weed. It’s actually originally from China and I believe it’s a variety of bamboo. Although we do have a bunch of wild mullein growing around that we’re always picking. Super useful plant.

NicTunes

Do it, you know you want to! Haha. Speaking of updates, how's Milo doing with her teeth? I hope she's been improving! Definitely record your progress along the way, I'm just as excited to see how it all started years from now :) Oh, and don't forget to film yourself doing the cliche "finger snap" transition, where you cut from day one of your journey to the last like magic. That can be the condensed version for the non-Patreon peeps over on YouTube! ;D I'm actually kinda relieved to hear they're indoor-only cats. I couldn't sleep knowing my babies were out there wandering the dangerous streets (day or night). I keep mine indoors for the same reasons you mentioned. Occasionally, I'll take them outside on a leash to enjoy the grass, but it would be great to screen off a section of the patio as well so they can come and go as they please. Have you ever tried taking Pax and Milo out on a leash before? I bet they'd love a good explore around the yard - once you've got the fire ant situation sorted, of course! I don't have a flower garden as such, but the backyard is always brimming with wildlife. We had a kookaburra say hello yesterday, and a very friendly blue-tongued lizard that likes to stop by now and then. There was even a family of possums nesting in our tree at one point. Haven't spotted any owls yet, but I know they're around! I'm certain your garden will attract all sorts of visitors as things begin to flourish :) Hopefully, you never have to encounter any snakes!

Mari Johanna

It's nice to see you share a different side of your life every now and then. I love gardening, but have done it only on balconies.

kanius

Watching you succeed where i fail is satisfying. I have a large garden and no time to do anything with it. One day...

Arashmickey

Sure i like flowers! Of course, don't go outta your way if you just feel like gardening not filming. I know those Salvia Greggii! Hard to photograph, especially that little curl on top

ixi music

It's my first native shade garden so I'm sure there will be a learning curve, but I'm so excited. And you're right, it's very time consuming. Not all seasons of life offer that kind of time.

Ryan TV

So sweet ixi! Green thumbs suit ya just as well as the rest of your musical fingers! My Mom used to be so awesome at knowing the names of so many flora 👩‍🌾 🫶

Chig

I wonder if the “greggii” species name of your hummingbird plant is from the same person as the name in my favorite blooming cactus (Peniocereus greggii var transmontanus (Arizona Queen of the Night) You know I’ve been time lapse filming the once a year nightly blooms for almost two decades now. I’ve used other people’s music…. Some day I hope to put the visuals to original music but don’t know where to start. https://youtu.be/5QyjKwElWwk?si=fTh4wDBtoJawzU3B

ixi music

oh, maybe! I mean it seems likely. Wow these timelapses are awesome. The humming bird moth!!

ixi music

oh yeah, where to start, maybe just a couple of slow-moving chords with synth pads! Easy once you find a patch that has some texture and movement in it

Nova Kane

Aweh, I totally took you for a fellow green thumb. I just started collecting an abundance of indoor plants myself. (Stupid apartment.) I know you have some hanging plants and ivy of your own. Would love a "plant tour" sometime!!

rufflazy

Gardening is the most fun!
