So...outside the comfort zone is the way to go, eh? :)

And Mari, here's the EQ curve I was playing with:

JULY 2026 musical challenge submissions review: NEW GENRE

Thanks for the feedback and advice! What you did with the eq sounded really good. I think my problem is self doubt. If I did what you did, I would immediately question whether it's good or bad. I'm making my first album now and I'd really love to mix it myself, but something needs to change. I'll use the next challenge to really practice this.

A bunch of random bits of mixing advice that I've picked up along the way: pick a reference track that you like and go back to that to clear your exposure-induced bias, trust your ears, take many breaks, don't mix at high volume, test your mix in mono, listen well away from your DAW and on many different devices (in many different rooms). Don't forget to listen in really bassy headphones, for example noise-canceling over-ear models. Also, cut bass on every track that isn't meant to be bass up until the difference becomes audible, and cut below at least 20 Hz on the whole thing. I'm far from a mixing and mastering expert, but I think it's possible to end up with a decent result by being intentional, letting it take time and listening carefully. Good or bad is entirely up to you – do you like how it sounds? If so, it's good. If it also sounds similar to your reference track, it should be good enough for anyone. If you're planning on releasing a thing on physical media you might want to give it to a proper mastering engineer.

That reference track thing is probably very helpful. I've learned a lot of tips and tricks but they're too scattered. Lately I've been making lists and step by step plans to make things happen and it's been working for me. I already started a mixing plan too. Thanks for your advice, there's lots of good and clear info. I will add these things to my mixing plan. My album might just end up being a digital version. I'll see how I feel closer to the release in the spring.

Thank you for the kind words. I planned to use my 8-string guitar on it but yes, it was about 12 different layers of vst guitars and synth patches through digital guitar amps. Not what I expected it to mean. Argent means silvery, white, or resembling the shiny, bright appearance of silver.

yeah that’s why it’s Ag in the periodic table, right? Argentum in Latin Banger track, very industrial Quake sound 🤟

Great tracks everyone ❤️ really enjoyed them all
