Do you have songs that you just KNOW the starting note for?

(Btw I was wrong about how off I was! 😂 Minor 3rd down and half step down, respectively)

Haha yeah I definitely do this sometimes too, but it’s quite easy to fool your own brain if you force it 😊 but when the songs come swimming to the surface of memory by themselves they’re usually spot on!

Klors

ah yeah, "My Food Is Burning" by The Flaming Lips, starts on an F, right?

Mari Johanna

I've done this many times and same, sometimes it's a hit, sometimes a miss. Lately I've been freaking myself out by singing a note and intuitively finding it on the piano right away.

Spot on 🙏🏻 My instant recognition key or note is: G. It was from obsessively listening to Shine On You Crazy Diamond over and over again when I was young. I still hear that opening chord everywhere, in music, in the whir and drone of machinery, everywhere! I can work out other notes from there so I guess that’s relative pitch?

Mari Johanna

Yes, that is relative pitch indeed 😊

Jedit

Not me. My gift is absolute rhythm. I may not be able to supply a single recognisable note if I attempt to reproduce a tune, but the wrong notes will all come at the right time.
