this is so fucking fascinating. I've learned so much more about music through you, thank you ixi

Travis Ames

The fact that the album art you show has the same number of “teeth” as the verse time signature has beats is interesting. Haven’t made it through the video yet to see if you reference this...

Brian Hard

That was really great ixi. Thank you again. Great way to wind down a particularly tough day.

Nate Beckman

saw that; there are 13 (7 + 6). figured that was on porpoise.

Nate Beckman

I love when we hear the "he could have done this" or "this is what this part sounds like slowed down" experimentation. Things I could only hear from ixi!

Steve Marseille

This is such a compelling track. I love when artists make mixed time signatures work. And the screaming is crucial and awful. Also, I was always a 7/4 + 4/4 + 2/4 person. But I have a bias against 6/4, I think - sorry, ixi (given that you have an affinity!). I just prefer 4/4 + 2/4.

Steve Marseille

ALSO: your increasing use of graphics? Excellent tools.

Steve Marseille

And this makes me look forward to the modes session all the more.

ixi music

Agreed! Interesting that you experience 6/4 differently than 4/4 + 2/4 - they are the same thing for me!

ixi music

Which types of graphics are you finding helpful?

ixi music

oh good! That contrast always helps me understand. Plus it's so fun to experiment. NIN in an alternate universe...

Steve Marseille

I think the 4/4 + 2/4 thing is because there's (usually, not always) an accent either on 3 or 5 to sort of split the bar. If it was on 4 it'd be just 3/4.

Dr. Jeff

This album launched as I was completing medical school. Listening to this now I remember that the harsh sound always reminded me of the sound of a mechanical ventilator. Something being kept artificially alive

ixi music

Haha I wish it was but I think it was subliminal. I saw the streaks and they seemed structural, like bar lines...didn't count them out though! ALWAYS count your teeth, y'all.

mark galvin

I dream of somehow playing this on the accordion! That live version you played towards the end was frickin awesome! Wow! Thanks for the breakdown, your analysis makes me feel like i could almost play most of these songs!

ixi music

that'd be so awesome! Loving your covers, Mark!
