I'm thinking about doing a series this year on song intros & outros. What are some of your favorites? Please include the song title, artist, and whether it's the intro or outro (or both). There's no limit to how many you can suggest!

For example: Piano outro of "Epic" by Faith No More

I'm very tempted to suggest one or more of my own songs, as in like 80% of my songs I do love the intros, and if we're counting my favorite trick in the outro - of going from a full wall of sound to gorgeous reverb tails and nothing but - there's plenty of those too in my own music, even without that, there's a bunch of great outros in my discography. On the other hand, my songs don't really follow a conventional song structure, and the elements that are highlighted in the intros and outros tend to be a significant part of the rest of the song too. It almost feels like a compositional failure to have something distinct in those areas that doesn't appear elsewhere in the song, as though it's "cheating" so I tend to avoid those. I'm going through a collection of my favorite music in random order, and it took 37 songs for the first one to really pop up at me for this question: Michael Jackson's They Don't Care About Us (both for the intro and the outro) At #90 on that shuffled playlist I came across Juno Reactor's Conquistador Part 1, which is a gorgeous intro to Part 2, so much so that I like it far better than the actual song of Part 2. That's a 6 minute long intro, on the other hand. :p Next one up (#133) is Alter Bridge's Still Remains, for its intro. The outro uses a similar technique to the one I often do. One before last came to be Infected Mushroom - Liquid Smoke (Shanti v Deedrah Remix), for the intro. Nothing special about the outro, and while I'm sure there are many other worthy candidates by Infected Mushroom, the random order of the playlist had me choose this one (which was #248 btw) The Pretender by Foo Fighters is the last one for the bunch, for both the intro and the outro.

I have two Smashing Pumpkins songs to recommend: "Porcelina of the vast oceans" has a great intro, and "Thru the eyes of Ruby" has a great outro

Love this!!! You already mentioned Faith No More's "Epic" piano outro. Would be cool to hear you break that down. A couple of other songs: Dream Theater, "Pull Me Under" intro especially, but outro too! HIM, "Join Me in Death" intro Depeche Mode, "Policy of Truth" intro Fiona Apple, "Shadowboxer" intro Matchbox Twenty, "You Won't Be Mine" intro and outro Bonnie Rait, "I Can't Make You Love Me" intro and outro

Where The Streets Have No Name is one of my favorite intros & outros!

one of my favorite outros of all time is the drum solo thing that closes out Tool's "The Grudge"; the drum part is burned into my brain from learning the transcription in Modern Drummer magazine around 20 years ago. Plus, MJK's scream...

Revisiting The Cure's Disintegration, and nearly every song, e.g., Fascination Street, has a brilliant intro.

Starless by King Crimson is probably the outro I enjoy the most. It’s an extended jam that transforms into a supercharged version of the main motif. It’s this ultimate release after minutes and minutes of tension.
