I challenge you to write a song, musical idea, melody, or loop using the hijaz scale!

How to find the scale:

Scale degree formula: 1 b2 3 4 5 b6 b7 1

Step formula: h W+h h W h W W

For example, in the key of G: G Ab B C D Eb F G

You can write in the key of G if you like, or any other one of your choosing. Just use the scale degrees or half step/whole step formula to figure it out.

Alternatively, if you know how to play a minor scale, you can take a minor scale and lower the 2nd note and raise the 3rd note by one fret/key. The rest is the same!

Rules

No rules per se, just make something you like!

You don't even HAVE to stick to the scale if you don't want to. You can consider this a jumping off point just to get inspired!

How & when to submit:

The deadline to submit is August 20th. Please submit by emailing me at ixi@iximusic.com. Submissions sent in other ways may get lost! You can send me a link or a file to download.

Hijaz creations listening party:

The livestream where we'll listen to your submissions is Sunday August 21 at 1:00pm CST. Looking forward to listening to your hijazzles!
