“Ode to Sleep” is the sound of twenty one pilots becoming twenty one pilots.

In this double feature, we travel through time — from the raw, early energy of the official music video (shot during their hometown rise) to the live Newport Music Hall performance that marks the start of their next chapter.

It’s loud, honest, and deeply human — a perfect snapshot of Tyler and Josh before the world knew their names. We’ll talk about the lyrics, the shifting tone between verses, and the bigger theme of duality that runs through everything they’ve ever written.

Thank you for helping make these deep-dive reactions possible. We’re eating good. 🍽️🎶

Oh man, was waiting for this!! Ode to Sleep's music video is absolutely the best introduction to them, both to show their growth and as a mix of a studio and live version of the song. Also, idk if it was picked up, but the Live at Newport Music Hall version is actually the one off of Regional at Best! They sound just slightly different, basically a demo version of Ode to Sleep how we know it off Vessel – that intro verse specifically had some work done lol – but the date really clued me in. Jan 2012! Definitely RAB

So so good. Definitely now a bucket list item to see them live! Did you see they'll be in AZ in February for a music festival with some other big names? We should have a live Musically Malnourished meetup with everyone! My husband wants to go because Mumford and sons will also be there. We're considering it! Oh, and I've never crowd surfed, but I have done some pretty hardcore body slamming in a mosh pit at a local concert. 🤪

I'm not familiar with their ticket prices. I imagine it's a pretty hefty amount due to it being a festival with multiple big names? But looking at Ticketmaster, the California show isn't cheap either! Lowest price I see is in the $200's for nosebleed section. I'm not a ToP expert and have no clue what their history is with record labels, but this is one of the reasons I love that Jon Bellion got out of his contract and started his own label. The tickets to his show were so much less because of it.

I've heard some other artists share their frustration that their concerts don't feel accessible but they have no control over it.

This tour i got cheap floor seats for $30, I got pit tix for $180, and box seats for $160...I bet it's so expensive because it's a festival. Kinda pay for everyone i think 🤔

I'm glad to hear that!
