Jules

That was beautiful. It made me cry.

AbsurdToastling

As I recall... it was at the edge of the water that Vessel first encountered Sleep in a dream. This music video, to me, feels like the first event chronologically, the moment of desperation which led into the first encounter. Vessel isn't in his body paint or hood or mask in this video, he is just a man, so this is before he was changed. And as it ends with him walking into the ocean, likely the last moment before that change. To that end I view the disintegrating note in the sand as being not a love letter, but a suicide note. That he had gone there to end it - hence walking into the crashing waves - but he disappears just before being submerged. This was the moment he decided to live, that the change occurred and Sleep was encountered and Vessel *became* a vessel. And that kind of recontextualizes the whole project by making it clear that, as the quote says, he is now enacting a "living drama" of the pain. That this is how he is choosing to heal from all that has occurred. It's literally a mask-off moment, but also the beginning of the mask itself.
