This is one of my favorite songs from TØP, I think this is one of their best produced and lyrical song, the emotion and just the words, it’s beautiful

Jules

I think the word 'adversere' means the Adversary. As someone who is on her own faith journey due in a large part to twenty one pilots, that philosophical argument that if evil exists then so does the source of good is very compelling. And of course it wouldn't be Tyler if after saying he's still on fire for the Lord, he didn't leave room for a little bit of doubt with 'at least I'm pretty sure"! 😆 I think the Drag Path is also for us. If we follow the trail he's left all these years, follow the breadcrumbs in the lyrics, understand the allegorical charachters like Torchbearer and Nico, follow the clues in the artwork they used (such as TB being behind Clancy on the Clancy album cover and 'blurry' but on Breach he is 'clear' standing in front of a cross) it's all evidence Tyler left on purpose to lead us to what he believes now so we are reassured of where he is spiritually. I was despondent after City Walls and Intentions, I understood that was an appropriate ending but I was sad about what it might mean for Tyler's faith journey that I've been so invested in. Hearing Drag Path put a new perspective on it, it was the resolution I personally really needed. I think of 'the darkest night' as the 'dark night of the soul', and God found him.

I saw someone say that Tally , Intentions, and Drag Path were all a different response to City Walls, and that resonated with me. To me- Tally still has a bit of doubt attached to that hope of someone believing in you. Intentions is an understanding that we will continue learning and progressing through our mistakes. Drag Path is a prayer of supplication and thankfulness. It’s so beautiful! The digital artwork was a great bonus as well! It worked out great! I still hope you will consider listening to NPI sometime with us! As a former youth pastor, I feel like you would appreciate it. It is many times very faith forward.. sometimes devastatingly so. I’m looking forward to continuing to still look at other artists with you friend!

Jules

Yes NPI and I hope Mathew listens to the 4 tracks Tyler and Josh did with Whittaker too. They are worship songs, but they kinda sound like twenty one pilots songs too as Tyler co wrote them.

Rebecca Collins

So very well put as always Jules! Thanks for all your insights! If I ever make it back to England, I would love to hang out with you and talk TOP all day ☺️

Also.. does anyone else feel there are Switchfoot vibes/ influence in this song? Right after I heard Drag Path it made me think of “Dare you to Move”.

This song always gives me a good cry 😢 . It wrecks me in a good way….. sooo beautiful. My favorite on the album ❤️ Hope that all TØP fans eventually hear this song…if not, they are missing out! Great reaction

EPIC 😭❤️ this song is so deep, so personal… yet sooo relatable. You should come to London to see them and Ren. This is NOT the end as there is so much more for you to explore with TØP. Also, I love half.alive, have seen them in Australia x3 times, met the boys and Josh and I have corresponded a few times… they are amazing and I’m keen for you to discover them. Their song ‘Creature’ is gorgeous.

Great way of putting it. I wonder how many have been brought to Christ through TØP’s passive ways ❤️

This one never fails to make me emotional. I like to think of it as the after credits scene to a 10yr lore movie, Its meant for the people who will spend there time waiting in the theater lol. This song is a special one

'Adversere' is probably here for the rhyme and could be a reminder of the French 'adversaire' which translates into 'opponent'

Michael Ross

Yep, I take it as a poet’s license to make “adversary” fit in the rhyme.

Michael Ross

MM, thank you so much for taking along for this journey! As I said over on YT, it’s been so special. That said I DO NEED you to do another react here on Patreon to the Intentions/Truce back-to-back and reversed you can find on YT.

Michael Ross

Also, yes Dave Matthews Band and Sam Fender!! As a VERY long-term fan, these are my specific recommendations for you from DMB (chronologically): Christmas Song, Ants Marching, #34 (note - instrumental), *Lie in Our Graves*, Proudest Monkey, The Last Stop, Don’t Drink the Water, Pig, Grey Street, Grace is Gone, *Bartender*, Some Devil (Dave Matthews solo project), Everybody Wake Up, You Might Die Trying, Lying in the Hands of God, Why I Am, Mercy, Samurai Cop. Fun fact: Dave Matthews was raised in Africa while his parents were Christian missionaries there… Oh, and if you love Josh Dun’s drumming (like I do), allow me to introduce you to Mr. Carter Beauford!

Michael Ross

Ok, last thing and then I’ll stop spamming you, haha! This might seem random to say here, and maybe it is, but I also want to recommend you do some reactions to Rage Against the Machine. I don’t know if you’re familiar at all, but especially if you’re not, I think it would be a good time! Definitely a departure from TØP as far as content, but from a musical creativity and lyrical depth standpoint, I think you’d really enjoy it. I was never a huge fan back in the day, kind of got into them more with Testify and Sleep Now in the Fire and the Renegades album, but I’ve since gone back and found that the antisocial stoners I knew back in high school who were really into them were actually on to something (at least as far as the music). It’s WILD how relevant their music is now, like 30 years later.

Mahleanne

That was awesome, thank you for putting it together! Such a beautiful song. And I agree, I think you should just enjoy the movie with your family. Maybe you could do a follow up over here or something a day or two after. But enjoy that time with your family!

Chelle Vess

Oh yes, I caught that vibe too. TOP did a cover of the song 24 on Switchfoot's anniversary album, so good!

Chelle Vess

Finally finished and caught up on your TOP journey on YT and joined in on patreon just for this one. Really loved your whole TOP journey and looking forward to digging in here to all the music videos. Like so many others, these boys and their music have meant so stinking much to me and helped me through some of my "darkest nights" <3

Rebecca Collins

Yes! I love Tyler’s cover! Such a beautiful song by Switchfoot and Tyler!
