Every time i see you pop up i get excited thinking you have more dave 😂 I do love pear jam tho 🎵🤗

Gary Simonson

Great stuff - are you gonna do any other Seattle Grunge bands, like Nirvana, Soundgarden or Alice In Chains?

Ah the 90s, when the guys had better hair than the girls ( I had personal experience of this as my boyfriend at that time had beautiful, long, blonde wavy hair for the whole 90s 🤨Annoying!) Jeff Ament on bass and Stone ...I forget his second name...on guitar wrote or co wrote a lot of songs. I know Jeremy was Jeff's song. It's easy to forget as well that autotune, as in live or post production pitch correction , was not yet a thing at this time.

100% All in due time. Pretty sure we’ll get to everything over the next 10-15 years 😂

Gary Simonson

Awesome! All of them have such iconic singers - Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, and Chris Cornell were all amazing as well.

Probably one of the best Unplugged performances along side Nirvana's! A couple things I always heard about this: 1) They were still so broke because Ten had just popped, they didn't actually own acoustic guitars and had to rent them all. 2) MTV had this dumb rule that artists weren't allowed to get off their stools, which is why Eddie "falls" off his during Porch. Not sure what other live Ten content you have on deck for them, but "Release" live is goosebumps-inducing.

Black is and always will be my favorite Pearl Jam song 🎵 idk how to explain but man the feelings I get when I hear it..

I am planning all of the music videos and the full Pinkpop concert. Is there a version of Release you recommend? You should check out Twenty One Pilots MTV Unplugged. I have it on here. They build the tracks live. It's really cool.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this. A lot of people point out to reactors that Ed was sick. He had the flu, bronchitis or some other icky respiratory thing that made him sound even extra raspy. What a lot of people don’t say or don’t know is that this piece of history almost didn’t happen. Ed locked himself in the bathroom for about an hour or so thinking he might just quit the band right then and there. He had never performed in an intimate, unplugged setting before and didn’t think he could let himself be so vulnerable in front of the studio audience and obviously TV audience. I imagine “Black” was the main culprit because he hated having to sing it live because it was so personal. Anyway, he finally exited the bathroom and told his band mates what he was feeling. They must have had a good talk because here we are watching it 35 years later!

I know you weren’t asking me this question, but I think it would be really cool for you to watch the live 1992 version of release (someone can tell you where it is) and also the newer live version of the song. The newer one isn’t technically as good because he can’t hit those high notes like he could before, but there is a vid out there of Ed dedicating the song to a man who waited in line for 3 or 4 days to get to the front of the crowd. His father had passed away and he really wanted to hear “Release”. The audience pitched in as they always do and it was a beautiful moment for that fan.

LFG! This performance is absolutely incredible. The emotion that Eddie puts into already emotional songs blows my mind no matter how many times I watch it. I know Pearl Jam is new for you, but how well do you know Nirvana? That’s a giant rabbit hole and arguably (in my opinion) their unplugged is even better. Plus they have some great concert footage like live at the paramount 1992-ish, which looks and sounds like it was filmed within the last few years. Highly highly recommend!

Brandon Cordell

I know you don’t do comedy reactions, but I would love to see you react to Pearl Jam bad lip reading/lyric videos. Probably some of the oldest “lip reading” videos on YouTube and they’re hilarious.

Brandon Cordell

Eddie was wild back then. There are videos of him climbing on ceiling mounted speaker cabinets way up in the rafters of some of their shows. I can’t remember if he ever got seriously hurt but there were some ballsy episodes back then.

I believe Julie is referring to the "Release" performances from Holland, 1992 and Wrigley Field, 2016, and I agree. I prefer the 2016 version but also think the comparison is a great example of an arc of a few of their songs ("Alive" and "Corduroy" as two others) where the songs start from a place of intense personal pain for Eddie but have evolved over time into communal catharsis and joy. It's on their 3rd album.

Gary Simonson

Nirvana was without a doubt the most important and impactful rock band of the 90s. Not to mention their music is incredible. I'm excited for when he reacts to them!

I've only ever heard pieces of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Would love to listen to them in more detail and try to understand the impact they made.

Gasp, more like; smells like a rabbit hole!

Oh, gotta add, after you watch Pinkpop and the videos, that you check out this video (if only for your own enjoyment): https://youtu.be/raSMqE-CoYo?si=d8CytYB_f_azOkzf Kind of amazing Eddie survived the early 90s, let alone to this day!

Finally getting around to watching this! I appreciate everyone’s insight into this performance! It was truly incredible! I LOVE acoustic music especially from artists like Pearl Jam who are so talented! Ten has some of my all time favorites from them esp Jeremy even though the song and video traumatized me a bit back in the 90s. I must be a bit masochistic because Neon Gravestones is one of my favorites from Trench too! Here’s an acoustic of that song in case you never saw it! ⬇️ https://youtu.be/2QB3rvtN7Sc?si=ejdbLeY-FNW_27As
