So bummed that I was very busy today and didn’t see this was playing until towards the end, and even when I joined I was running errands with the kids. Would have loved to have been more a part of the conversation! I love NPI so much! I actually sometimes enjoy it more than RAB and self titled. Tyler’s vocal intonations and extra experimental sounds on those two albums sonically feel a bit much to me personally. I love how NPI is simpler and mostly piano driven. It’s a bit unpolished, but you can already tell Tyler’s genius! Far more advanced than most other 17-18 year olds! Prove Me Wrong is my favorite! I also love Drown, Just like Yesterday, and Never Change. Taken by Sleep to me sounds like a precursor to Trees. “I’ll sing a song to you my friend” sonically sounds a lot like the chords in “I can feel your breath, I can feel my death”. So many themes that started here that continue throughout the discography and you can see how it matured over the years! Falling Too being a forerunner to Guns for Hands, Friend Please, etc. I also love, love the TØP xMM session! I love how they reimagine new ways to play their songs more than any other artist I know of!The synths that Paul was playing during the drum battle during Lane Boy morphed into sounds played during the Message Man “ritual” that they did during SAI and Breach tours with the black paint. So glad you were able to enjoy this album especially with many of its religious themes. Hopefully I’ll get to be there if you do a RAB stream. I’ll still be here! Love your work Matthew!

Also.. I forget.. which song is a skip for you?!

Oh yeah! Can’t believe you don’t like that one! For me it’s Pantaloon!

Thinking about your dark spooky beats, next poll I am going to suggest a listen to a UK trip-hop collective called Massive Attack, particularly the album Mezzanine which has a very dark eerie aesthetic.

Musically Malnourished

Funny enough, I came across their name today in the genius comments during TOMORA’s album! I actually set out to make something last night completely different and a bit brighter. I was really happy with how it came out. Trying to figure out the best way to share some of those songs as I’m creating them.

Oh what a weird coincidence! The UK trip hop scene was so good - Massive Attack and Portishead were probably the two biggest names. I still listen to Mezzanine on the regular, it is relentlessly dark musically but it's so good. Look forward to hearing your new creations! Ok edited to say I went and found the comment on Genius and yes that track is certainly drawing from tracks on Mezzanine, the beat and the vocals but also another UK artist called Goldfrapp.

Listening to this stream again today and realising this came full circle: Never Change 2008 "What is wrong with me?... I don't understand why You would care. But You will never change....You would never stop searching lost and found" then 2025 and Torchbearer says "I Am Torchbearer and I will not give up on him...We WILL try again...always".
