Pedro Brigante

Personally I'd never forgive anyone who accused me of lying or cheating without taking all the facts into consideration, but I hold grudges...

Sean

Agreed. The author has made Fleur out to be a horrible bitch. Claiming he'd risk being a squib for glory. If the author doesn't have her being horribly humbled then I think I might drop this one.

The Fourth World

I think she’s going to get humbled in the dueling tournament

Erinnyes

I feel like you’re pushing Fleurs character into nearly unrecoverable dislike from the readers.

Drinor

Yeah, but you have to understand that neither Fleur nor Harry are perfect in this story, but the story will also show their POV's and the reasons on why they are the way they are, but also, they will have character arcs that will change them.

Drinor

Fleur might not be the kindest right now, but she is not incompetent. In the story, Fleur is Harry's biggest rival in the Triwizard Tournament and the Duelling Race.

Drinor

Yeah, I understand, but there is a thing called Character Arc.

Drinor

Well, this is just the beginning.

Erinnyes

Yeah, I understand, but there is a thing called going too far to come back from.

Drinor

Yeah, but I don't think Fleur did anything that is 'Going Too Far' she does not believe Harry and thinks he cheated to enter the Tournament, and the reason why she believes that and why she is angry will be revelaed more as the story goes, but is not like she is trying to sabotage Harry or anything, she simply does not believe him for more personal reasons rather than logical ones.

Pedro Brigante

Her sanctimonious attitude is incredibly off putting. Thinking a competitor cheated is one thing. Getting on your soapbox and denigrating them is another. I understand the need for tension, but I think the way you've written Harry in the story makes me believe he wouldn't forgive anyone who accused him of cheating.

Erinnyes

It’s not that it’s going too far without her being evil, it’s going too far for it to be believable that Harry would ever forgive her enough to start a romantic relationship, and more importantly going so far that the readers won’t even want it to happen. That’s the concern I’m trying to highlight.

Drinor

Harry will not forgive her right away, this Harry is much more different, is going to take more than just an apology for Harry to just forgive the people who drag his name through the mud. It's going to take a while until Harry and Fleur start their relationship.

Victory For The People

Percy graduated after Harry's third year. Unless the twins got a letter from home talking about what was in the prophet?

Brian Jordan

I agree Fleur seems to be pushing all the wrong buttons but I would remind folks of her conversation with her father in chapter one. We are presented with someone who has been raised to be the best and has mastered every challenge she's presented with. We also saw someone whose national pride has gotten rather extreme. I would suggest, first, that reaching the level she's attained required a massive amount of effort and sacrifice and Harry seems to have ticked off all her buttons and, second, she seems very caught up in the idea of the obvious, blatant supremacy of French culture and citizenry over anything the contemptable English might claim to possess. There will be a fall involved and I expect it will be extremely painful. What matters is how she handles the aftermath.

Brian Jordan

I rather liked Harry's conversation with the Weasley twins. If he is to determine who set him up Harry has to work out how it was done. Granted, it's low on the surviving this mess checklist but still.... Of course, there is a simpler, nastier answer to how his name was entered: what if it was put in the Goblet at the very beginning? Just a thought.
