i really don't understand where her fear comes from... maegor is much like daemon in that regardless of his flaws he loves his family above all.. and everything maegor does is to protect the family even if he hates them. I am glad they the talk finally happened

I wonder if you are going down the route of regret/forgiveness? Not likely but I would wonder if Maegor would ever forgive her and/or help her among other things. Great story, looking forward to more!

Daeron Targaryen

Rhaenyra stood alone in the courtyard, the sound of Vermithor’s wings beating the air still echoing in her ears. She didn’t move, didn’t even flinch as the cold wind cut through her. The weight of Maegor’s words still hung heavy in the air around her, and it was as though the very ground beneath her was pulling away, leaving her suspended in a chasm of regret. She hadn’t been prepared for the venom in his voice, for the cruelty of his truths. The words cut through her like steel. You lied to me. Everyone knows the truth. You made me doubt my own eyes. And in that moment, she realized it wasn’t just the truth that hurt her. It was her own guilt, the knowledge that every single word he had said was justified. Her hands were trembling now. Her thoughts scattered, but one thing was crystal clear. She had lied to him. All of it. She had lied to Maegor—lied to herself. And as his dragon’s roar faded into the night, she couldn’t escape the fact that the one person who had ever truly loved her was gone. And it was her fault. She had driven him away. She had chosen Daemon. Rhaenyra took a step back, her legs unsteady as the truth settled over her, the weight of it almost too much to bear. I chose Daemon. She had chosen him over Maegor. And she had lied to Maegor about it—sworn to his face that nothing had happened with his father. She had slept with the man who had raised him, the man who had once been so dear to him, and had thrown away any hope of reconciliation with the one person who had trusted her with everything. For what? The hollow ache in her chest deepened as she sank slowly to her knees in the cold mud, her fingers clawing at her cloak, trying to find something to hold on to. Her breath came in shallow gasps, as if the air had been sucked from her lungs. I was selfish. I was cruel. And now it’s too late. She had wanted the crown. She had wanted power. And in her desire, she had trampled over the one person who had loved her with a devotion she had never deserved. She thought she could have both Daemon’s fire and Maegor’s trust, but in the end, she had lost everything. She had discarded Maegor like he was nothing. And for what? Tears began to fall, hot and bitter, streaking down her face as she realized the depth of her own betrayal. She had seen him as nothing more than a pawn, someone who could serve her ambition. She had used him when it suited her, and then tossed him aside when Daemon offered her something she wanted more. And now, that had cost her everything. Her sobs wracked her body, the weight of her guilt pulling her under. She had chosen the thrill, the power, the danger of Daemon over the steady, unflinching loyalty Maegor had offered her. She had chosen to lie, to cover up the truth with empty excuses about being young and scared. She had convinced herself she had no other choice. But now, with Maegor gone, she saw it for what it was. I betrayed him. She had betrayed Maegor in the worst possible way. Not just with his father, not just with the lies, but with her heart. She had used him. She had told him she loved him and then thrown him away the moment something more tempting had come along. The thought twisted in her gut, each twist of the knife a reminder of how far she had fallen. I chose Daemon over him, she realized again, but this time there was no excuse left. No justification. She had known exactly what she was doing. Her hands shook harder now, the mud beneath her hands cold and unforgiving, as if mocking her helplessness. She had been blinded by her desire for power, for control, for a crown that now felt meaningless. All that remained was the wreckage of her choices, the broken pieces of her own soul. And I’ll never get it back. She looked down at her hands, the tears blurring her vision as she saw nothing but the stains of her own actions. She had broken him. She had broken everything they had once shared. And for what? Nothing. The wind howled around her, but it couldn’t drown out the voice in her head. The truth was undeniable now. It was my fault. She had betrayed Maegor. She had betrayed herself. And now, as the cold night wrapped around her like a shroud, Rhaenyra was left with the silence, the weight of her own choices, and nothing more.
