I love the way Eric Serra plays with the Bond theme. It’s so unique. He did a lot of Luc Besson’s movies.

8bitAndy

Rounders, the prequel to The Bourne Identity, is my favorite Bond movie. You guys should check it out.

Ootlander

Wish you guys would watch all the bond movies.

REDR58

At the very least they should sample a few of the different Bond movies / actors starting from Dr. No and going onward.

Mastervodo

OOOOk... maybe not a prequel... but a 100% worthy one-off movie to see. PLEASE take this recommendation! I used to have one of the songs from Rounders, "I'm a Big Star Now" by Counting Crows on my favorite playlist. Very chill soundtrack. And it has Edward Norton, John Malkovich, Famke of course, and another hottie actress, Gretchen Mol. Damon is great in it.

REDR58

So you guys should just really continue from watching the first James Bond movie, “Doctor No” and maybe watch all of the movies in order of release once or twice a month. You’ll get through all of them that way fairly quickly but not burn out. My favorite Bond is Roger Moore because his movies are the ones I saw first, growing up in the 1980s, but I like them all EXCEPT for No Time to Die…

djKENTO

Okay since Simone brought it up with noticing that Judi Dench as M carries over, let’s talk Bond Continuity. Lesson 1: JUST ROLL WITH IT! The continuity of the Bond films is fucked. It contradicts itself from time to time. You can kinda just roll with the idea that all Bonds before Daniel Craig are the same James Bond. only Daniel Craig is the full reboot with a full story where continuity actually matters. The only actor that continues all the way through until their passing is Desmond Llewelyn as Q. There is only 1 Lesson. Also Goldeneye and Casino Royale have the same director and they pulled M over because people love Judi Dench, it gives a sense of familiarity for long time fans. It only muddles the “is every James Bond different or not?” conversation more. Also because the continuity is so weird some people think Bond is a code name and that every Bond is a different person who takes on this code name. That’s not canon. it’s a fun theory… but really it’s just people trying to fix a bad continuity. Hence lesson 1… just roll with it.

i get the completionism sentiment but i dont think those old bond movies, like pre 80s, are a good idea. not with YT algorithms. George has mentioned many times that harry potter was a huge nightmare cause YT cant tell teh difference between child endangerment and a movie. i cant imagine how YT will react with Sean Connery bond just slapping a woman into submission then force kissing her till she gives up and sleeps with him. modern day standards aside, it just feels risky with YT's automated systems.

djKENTO

Simone saw Die Another Day… it’s corn ball schlock and would be GREAT for cinecringe.

djKENTO

oh the Just Roll With it rule also applies to the X-Men franchise.

Amar

Ok you watched Golden Eye. Now are you planning on watching all of the James Bond movies? That will take a LONG time.

Leo Gets

pretty sure they did this cause it got 2nd place in that last action movie poll, rather than some official entry into the franchise lol

ExquisiteCapybara

fun fact: there is no Bond movie with a completely new cast, meaning there is an unbroken line between the first one (Dr. No) until the latest Daniel Craig movie. (not counting the early made for TV "Casino Royale" and the super weird "Casino Royale" with David Niven) This does not mean there is continuity - except when there is. Before Craig contiunuity are mostly almost exclusively callbacks/easter eggs. As someone else said: just roll with it.

William

Great reaction guys, i loved it it. interesting fact, Ian Flemming who wrote the Bond books who was x British Intelligence during the war, also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

djKENTO

Fam-Key Jan-Sen is how you pronounce Famke Janssen.

Philipp Roensch

It is cheesy, it is practical action and full of great lines. Not the most sophisticated Bond, but the best Bond. To answer a few questions: Bond actors change, also the side characters changes, with each actor there usually is an era, and this one was a reboot so to say. GoldenEye wanted to be a bit different and really hit the 2000s action well. James Bond does seldom use a synonym, he is very much a 'superhero spy', sneaking and confident rather than deceiving. Natalia is of course the best Bond girl, she can handle herself and give clapback. I would suggest watching the next 2 Piece Brosnans if you like that style, it goes a good bit downhill, unless the cringe is what you seek^^. Skyfall is the 3rd Daniel Craig Bond, a very good one, don not need to see Quantum of Solace.

Piep

Octopussy has obv. 8 CATS!

Sumner Hayes

Simone asked about the outrageous names: Austin Powers had nothing on the real thing. Actual Bond girl names include Pussy Galore, Plenty O'Toole, Holly Goodhead, Strawberry Fields, Mary Goodnight, Chew Mee, Sylvia Trench, Kissy Suzuki, Bambi and her friend Thumper, Octopussy, Xenia Onatopp, and Molly Warmflash.

brian burke

simone or george or both should play goldeneye on n64 abit after this, liek you played other games before, even a little of it. its a great game and still holds up today, one of the main reasons i got a Nintendo 64.

G P

Best of the new movies (although I can't believe this is almost 30 years old now). You should check out some of the older ones if you haven't, my favourites are: From Russia With Love Goldfinger You Only Live Twice On Her Majesty's Secret Service The Spy Who Loved Me Moonraker The Living Daylights Licence to Kill

Allen Pass

Watch Gattaca, Brightburn, Doctor Sleep next.

Odd Thomas

The best Pierce Brosnan film. The Daniel Craig Bonds all tell one big story so I recommend you watch all of those. Casino Royale is my favourite Bond film of all of them. And it's Goldeneye, not Golden Eye, just fyi.

Prof. Writhms

Favorite Bond girl... Halle Berry as Jinx in "Die Another Day".

E. D.

Best names in film history: Fook Mi & Fook Yu ps: her name is pronounced Phamkeh Yhanssen ps2: probably the best james bond intro song, I get goosebumps every time

Odd Thomas

My top 5: Casino Royale Licence to Kill Skyfall Goldeneye From Russia With Love

E. D.

Onatop(p)‘s children: Laptop & Desktop

Opti_Frog

Natalya Simonova is my favourite Bond girl, but i am biased because she's Swedish. I am not a Bond fan, but GoldenEye is the rare Bond movie i actually enjoy.

Michael

George, if you want to see a non suave, bumbling version of James Bond, you should watch Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson)

Odd Thomas

A good Minnie Driver movie is Grosse Point Blank

E. D.

Pls watch all of the movies, start with the first one, there are a bunch of interesting villains for you to discover in all the bonds

Odd Thomas

Re: tone. The reason the Daniel Craig era was more gritty was because we'd had 40 years of quippy Bonds and it eventually became a parody with Die Another Day which is the WORST Bond film, period. Goldeneye was in the sweet spot when it was still lighthearted but not so silly as to be Austin Powers (another reason why the makers made Casino Royale more gritty; to distance it from Austin Powers). The Bourne Identity was another reason.

Odd Thomas

Best Bond Girl: Eva Green Worst: Halle Berry

p0sthum4n

Xenia Onatopp was like the prime femme fatale movie crush when I was a kid. We all wanted her to snap our necks.

J.R.

thought we'd get a continuation of the daniel craig movies before this since you watched casino royale like 2 years ago or whatever, just surprised to see Goldeneye drop before that but not complaining !

Andrew Roach

You don't need to watch them all but a good sampling of each actor would be nice. My personal favorite is The Spy Who Loved Me featuring a real colossal set that will blow your mine and the greatest henchmen EVER.

James Hadden

I’ve been a long time Bond fan, and I could be wrong, but I don’t remember people having a problem with Dame Judi as M. Favourite Bond girl: Jane Seymour Least favourite: Denise Richards

RipTheRipper

Requests - Being John Malkovich (1999) - Little Miss Sunshine (2006) - Monster (2003) - Lady Bird (2017) - Escape Room (2019) - Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)

REDR58

The opening with the sexy women in silhouette and the rather bizarre sort of abstract backgrounds is pretty typical for a James Bond opening title sequence, especially pre-Craig. Though I feel the opening titles here aren’t very interesting. There are much better ones.

REDR58

I love all the Roger Moore Bond films. I think they are some of the best-looking movies and have the best music of all the movies. Are they the best movies overall? Not particularly but I still enjoy them quite a bit.

Justin Leone

Have you seen The Living Daylights? I think it holds up for a lot of the same reasons as Goldeneye. Bond (Timothy Dalton) is charismatic and not chauvinistic, it's got some clever plot twists, a diverse set of locations around the world, and the female co-star is a character that actually figures into the story, rather than being shoe-horned in because Bond needs a woman to romance. The plotline is also a bit more plausible than Goldeneye.

Shreddy

Tomorrow Never Dies is still ok, a bit worse than this. The 4 Brosnan Bonds get gradually worse and more campy (too campy). That's why they went for the grittier reset of the franchise in Casino Royale (also because Bourne was popular)

Hakuna

Would have been great to see you continue the craig bond movies

Justin Leone

I think you're close, but it seems like your assessment is ignoring Timothy Dalton's two films. He's not entirely free of quips (and neither is Daniel Craig), but Living Daylights and License to Kill are both much more serious, down to earth, and plausible spy thrillers than the Roger Moore era before them and the Brosnan era that followed. They're also two of the best movies in the whole series. I think the problem with Brosnan's later movies (and particularly Die Another Day) was that they felt a need to top the previous ones with more and more bombastic action set-pieces. Some of Roger Moore's movies were more overtly silly than Die Another Day, but they were intentionally campy. Sometimes to good effect, but often not (IMO). Die Another Day wasn't trying to be silly. It was just trying to top the action of its predecessors, to the point where it strained plausibility way too far, even for a Bond movie.

JayF

I don't remember any sort of outcry about Judi Dench becoming M but it was also (thankfully) before social media came along. Also, Judi Dench is a very formidable woman. She was perfect for the part so that probably helped.

Monica Alarcon

The next movie "Tomorrow Never Dies" is also really good, I hope you watch it, and, to answer George's question, it has my favorite Bond Girl because it's the first Bond movie I watched in which she was an equal to Bond (I'm not gonna say who it is in case you do watch it), the one after "The World is Not Enough" has my least favorite Bond Girl, Denise Richards, because she is just eye candy and not believable as a nuclear scientist...

Skyruff

He is a 'spy' named Commander James Bond , Code Name: 007. As they have said in several films, he is a blunt instrument that is sent to stir the pot and kill whatever floats to the top. The first 20 Bond movies were all supposed to be connected "somehow". They rebooted Bond with Craig. Of the Original Bond movies some are better movies and some are better 'bond' movies. This one of the better movie and better Bond movies. When looking at the original Bond films, we in America compared them to "Bud" beers. Bond - Sean Connery Bond light - Roger Moore Bond dry - Timothy Dalton Ice Bond - Pierce Brosnan Coors - George Lazenby (not a real Bond)

gobmob2000

You two should watch Johnny English 2003, its another James bond skit with Rowan Atkinson

Jesse Coombs

That being said, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (the Lazenby one) is one of my favorite Bond movies. I may be a weirdo though!

REDR58

Simone and George, if you continue with the Bond movies you’ll quickly learn that they are filled with nothing but double entendres.

Jesse Coombs

I would argue that people also speculate over who the next Doctor Who would be. It might not be as star-making, but it's similar.

Jesse Coombs

Judi Dench was the first woman to portray "M". She's great. I'd recommend the movie "Mrs Brown" to see her really shine, as well as Billy Connolly.

Jesse Coombs

Also, if you want to see an unsexy, but competent spy, check out "Charlie Wilson's War". Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays that guy.

Drew Acheson

I really hope you guys do the full Danial Craig series, they are such good movies and give James a really great story arc.

REDR58

I think the point of all the old Soviet-era statues seen in the beginning of the movie being smashed and then the collection of statues in the helicopter explosion scene was a bit misinterpreted... It's not to make everything look super Russian but the idea is that the old statues were torn down or otherwise removed from former public display and dumped in one place for future disposal/display. This was done in a number of former Soviet countries, not the least of which, Ukraine: https://www.npr.org/2020/07/21/892914684/what-to-do-with-toppled-statues-russia-has-a-fallen-monument-park Helicopter ejection seats do exist, but only on Russian military helicopters such as the Kamov Ka-50 attack helicopter and its variants, but not the Eurocopter Tiger (also a real type of helicopter) seen in the movie. But, as seen in the movie, the main rotorblades are first detached using explosives, and then the pilot is ejected.

christopher b swanson

1999 Thomas Crown affair with brosnan, brillant and fun.........and no one has done a youtube react to it.............check out trailer.........

Justin Leone

The N64 was the first game system that had analog control sticks, and when it was released, no one really knew if the analog stick would take off, or how many games would even implement it rather than sticking with the traditional directional pad, so they didn't want to commit too hard to it. So the controller was designed to use either the directional pad or the analog stick, depending on which handle you were holding onto. It was actually a pretty well engineered solution to the problem. Each directional controller was comfortable to reach from its correct handle, but I think virtually every N64 game ended up using the analog stick, so the D-Pad ended up being like a vestigial organ, unreachable and without purpose.

schnoobs

i hope they continue with the daniel craig bond movies.

Shoobs98

I am just now finding out that this and casino royale (2006) are directed by the same person

Jesse Coombs

Also, if you want to see a more grounded "spy flick", I would recommend "Ronin". It stars Robert Deniro, Sean Bean, Jean Reno (The Professional), Stellan Skarsgård, and Jonathan Pryce.

REDR58

As always, I recommend the original 1968 “The Thomas Crown Affair” first, as that is an excellent film with an amazing opening scene and would be one way to introduce Simone and George to Steve McQueen.

michael murray

George: "Just for fun i'd like to see a unsexy, slobbish, james bond. Goes on a mission with dorritos dust on his shirt" Then you need to add Slow Horses to your short tv series list. Although instead of Dorritos dust, imagine Gary Oldman covered in kebab stains and cigarette ash. 6 episodes per season, currently three seasons available (but the fourth is filmed and due out sometime this year), and absolutely excellent viewing

Shreddy

Yeah it's obviously about Gorbachev abolishing communism and collapse of Soviet Union, the communist statues were torn down and taken to this place (possibly to be disposed), away from the public eye. Surprised that George would interpret it wrong, considering he has a history focused channel. The movie has goofy parts, but that detail wasn't goofy at all

gobmob2000

The traditional bond car is a Austin Martin DB5, but its not the only car he drives, during the Pierce Brosnan series, he drove the BMW due to better sponsorship deals.

Patrick

My only experience with Goldeneye is on N64, and we ALL had a friend who always played as Oddjob because there was no vertical aiming and he was the shortest character. Edit : This movie looks like it's from the 70's with those effects and sounds. Very entertaining movie though!

Odd Thomas

I've never forgiven Q for boasting about stinger missiles in the headlights and then Bond never uses ANY of the car gadgets.

Alan Kobb

Why does James Bond want his martini shaken, not stirred? When you shake the martini, the greater friction causes more of the ice to melt, and also aerates the drink, giving a "lighter" mouthfeel. Some people like this. People who don't like it say that James Bond likes to be snooty while ordering a watered-down martini. Many of the Austin Powers characters have names that are parodies of characters in different Bond movies. Ivana Humpalot comes from Xenia Onatopp from Goldenye and Alotta Fagina is a parody of Pussy Galore from Goldfinger. Of course, Basil Exposition is Q, because Q's only purpose is to explain to Bond what his mission is, then to disappear until more exposition is called for. In Goldfinger you had OddJob, an asian henchman who throws his razor-edge bowler hat to decapitate people. In Goldmember, you had another asian named Random Task who threw his shoe.

Roxolan

Surely if more of the ice melts, the drink is also colder - which is the point of putting in ice - so that's a tradeoff? The ideal would be to have martini ice cubes I suppose.

BangDroid

Space Division may sound funny, but don't forget the US actually has a Space Force lol

Vwlss Nvwls

I love all the James Bond movies, more so with the pre Daniel Craig, but I think they all have their merits. Timothy Dalton was always my favorite, because he really humanized Bond. However, I love this and a couple other Brosnan movies a lot, because he is just so charismatic. I grew up on Moore's Bond, and watching Connery Bonds on t.v., so they always hold the most special place in my espionage heart. All that being said, my two favorite Bond movies are Goldfinger and Goldeneye, in that order, followed by License to Kill, and Live & Let Die.

Vwlss Nvwls

Natalia is my favorite Bond girl. She has all three Esses... Strong, Smart, and Sexy. Denise Richard's Christmas was my least favorite. Dumb character that was poorly portrayed.

Vwlss Nvwls

This movie had the very best teaser trailer/trailers. It had the Bond music playing, and a silhouette figure shoots words on the screen to make 007, then walks into the light and it is Pierce Brosnan, at which point he says "you were expecting someone else?". Because this was his first Bond film.

gobmob2000

Another good Pierce Brosnan film to watch that is not James Bond is Dante's Peak 1997

Vellu

The best Bond girl is Melina (Carole Bouquet) from "For Your Eyes Only" (1981) and second place goes to Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell) from "License to Kill" (1989).

Raven Dark

When this went up, I must have missed it somehow. I know this is a hot take, but most Bond movies are just okay to me. This is the only one I love. And for me, Natalia takes top spot for Bond Girl.

Raven Dark

Finally had a chance to watch the whole reaction, and I loved it. I really enjoyed how you both embraced the over the top stunts and jokes, but also how into the fight scenes and action scenes you were. Totally agree about the tension in the pen scene with Boris. That was really well done. In my opinion, the other Bond movies with Broznan are a little too silly, but I love this one. And I agree with you both--he's such a beautiful man. It's not fair how hot he is. George, I think in the scene at the start with the bungie jump, Simone was so surprised for two reasons. First, while Bungie jumping is a thing even outside of stunts, that one was really high. Second, nowadays, they would more than likely rely on CGI to do that stunt today, whereas a person did that one for real. Like with Terminator, this was back in the day when, if you wanted someone to fly a helicopter under a bridge, you had to have someone fly a helicopter under a bridge--or in this case, leap off a tall precipice from a cord. Oh, and as to the list of things you guys were talking about at the start, the elements that are quintessentially Bond. Along with gadgets, sleeping with a lot of women, and whatever else you mentioned, I'd add the awesome one-liners, and the crazy plot armor. LOL Fantastic reaction, Simone and George. And now, I have a very strong urge to watch your Bourne Identity reaction...

David Lonewolf Wright

Yeah, Pierce Brosnan still looks great as of the most recent movie he was in that I have seen, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. I would recommend it, as it is quite fun.

Ph4ZeD

Very sad that you watched this then abandoned the Pierce Brosnan Bond films :(
