Brian McG

Oh hell yeah! Thanks for this one, I appreciate you both!

GBmain

Nice, heard people rip on this movie but seems like my kinda jam, classic cluedo-like mystery... (I think North Americans called the game Clue)... Either way, whether it's a radio drama, board game or TV bottle episode, I'll love it I'm sure

Tay Schumaker

If you like this you should consider watching Brick. It’s Rian Johnson’s first movie and it’s a high school noire film. Still think it’s his best movie, lots of fun language. The white cop in this was in it as well. Also Rian Johnson directed a few Breaking Bad episodes as well. Fly, Fifty-One and Ozymandias

JediLounger

Yes the sequel is worth watching. A third movie is due out next year.

brian burke

i liked this movie, pretty good but regardless of story, i think this is the last film i saw with my mother at the theater before we both got covid and she died from it. we got to watch some films at home but i think this was the last we saw at the theater. so i will always remember it for that.

Armchair Rizzard

Maybe some people rip on it, but ive never heard anything but critical acclaim and praise for it, so thats weird.

Tay Schumaker

I think the sequel is a pretty big step down. Worth watching because of how great Daniel Craig is and all the scene chewing from a stacked cast. But it’s not nearly as good as this one in my opinion. Excited for the third one in ‘25 though Apparently Craig loves playing Blanc and working with Johnson as well.

I love this movie, and I've seen it at least 10 times now. That said, George picked up on something that it took me a few viewings to notice: Ransom would've had to have injected Fran with morphine well before the "10 minute window" in order for all the events to work out. So why was Fran still alive when Marta found her? The best I can think of is that the 10 minute windows was citied specifically in relation to the dose that Marta gave Harlan--100mg. It's possible that Ransom gave Fran a lower dose that was still fatal, but took longer to work. (Also, the movie is so good, that I'm willing to overlook an inconsistency or two.)

Jacob King

Brick is an incredible first film. Trooper Wagner (Noah Segan) who appears in all of Rian Johnson films is really great in Brick. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the lead in Brick and has a cameo in Knives Out.

Pam Nail

I loooooove this movie. Love that it's more of a "what was done" than a "whodunit." Maybe my favorite part is the ultimate reveal that Marta gave Harlan the correct dosage despite the switch, which is this really beautiful tone shift from the semi-camp intrigue to a sincere emotional moment. Easily the most emotional moment in the movie -- maybe the only one, other than the moments just after she supposedly misdosed him.

AzraRillian

I love this movie, as well as the sequel, and this reaction couldn't have come out at a better time, since Netflix and Rian Johnson just yesterday revealed the title and release window for the third movie (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, 2025), with a short video of Blanc saying it's his deadliest case yet.

Jacob King

Fun reaction to a very fun movie - I hope that cat is getting a cut of the Patreon money. A bit of trivia you might have missed, the lawyer was Frank Oz, Yoda, Miss Piggy, etc. Frank Oz directed the brilliant Death at a Funeral which has similar horrible family gathers to farewell their patriarch vibes - definitely a movie you guys would enjoy. If you want more of Daniel Craig’s deep fried southern accent then the heist movie Logan Lucky is the best choice (and I love Glass Onion).

Paul G

Such a great movie. When people say "they don't make movies like this anymore" this is what they are referring to. The casting of Chris Evans as the villain gives me the same vibe as David Schwimmer in Band of Brothers. Both actors were known for straight laced likeable characters and then suddenly they get tossed into roles as antagonists, great casting choice. I wouldn't call Glass Onion a sequel per se, it's just another Benoit Blanc story (the official title is Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery which director Rian Johnson hated. He wanted it to be called just Glass Onion to avoid confusion but he was overruled by the studio). That being said, it's a decent movie. It doesn't quite capture the magic of Knives Out but still entertaining and with another top notch cast.

JCR

The accent is a kind of 19th century, “Southern gentleman” accent, I think from the Carolinas. Think Val Kilmer in Tombstone.

Stephen Tordoff

I spent a lot of the movie wondering how two things were going to be significant - the interviews being recorded, and this line: "Playing life like a game without consequence, till you can't tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife." It's a good payoff.

Philipp Roensch

It was more of a pure dark comedy to be fair, but I exactly liked that. This one has the stronger emotional payoff.

REDR58

Benoit Blanc is more or less based on Agatha Christie’s “Poirot” character. Not necessarily in mannerisms but in intelligence and deductive methods. This movie isn’t like “Clue” at all except for the fact that it’s a mystery. The best portrayal of Hercule Poirot is David Suchet who portrayed the fictional detective in many TV episodes and some TV movies. Kenneth Branagh has made 3 more recent Poirot movies but Suchet’s work is far superior. Much like Robert Downey Jr with his Sherlock’s Holmes. His movies are fine, but Jermey Brett is the best Live action Sherlock Holmes by far. https://youtu.be/yefeBEfemps?si=l-9yHRxI9sbPkXqV https://youtu.be/3UOTIW83oXs?si=JopLnXLKNNvnVcrg

Skyruff

Ah this show very accidentally brings to mind, “The Kentucky Fried Movie” (1977) had its day and is so politically incorrect as is most of the Zucker brothers works.

samuel Jakob

Never seen this before even tho i wanted to watch it for a long time, glad I could watch it with you guys now. This was such a fun movie!

Spacedone

There's a very quick line early in the movie when Plummer's character says something about how Chris Evan's character is so stupid he can't tell the difference between a prop knife and a real one. And he was.

China Andronicus

My heart when you said Christopher Plummer isn’t a big name actor. 😭💔 I know he’s gone now and an older name but he was definitely well known and very good. He’s also Canadian! Won an Oscar for Beginners, another great film. This is probably my favorite Chris Evans role. He’s such a complete dick. I think the sequel is well worth a watch.

Odd Thomas

Another good Rian Johnson film: Looper. Another Christopher Plummer murder mystery: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011). And yes I mean this version.

Alexrandom

I really love this film. It's a movie that seems like a basic hommage at first but it gets really clever and emotional at the end. The social commentary is also pretty subtle and fun. The complete opposite of glass onion which is extremely heavy handed in my opinion. I hate that movie with a passion. I think it's pretentious bullshit that thinks it's way more clever than it is... But people like it so I guess you'll end up watching it. Hope you guys like it, I wouldn't wish you guys to hate it just because I do ... Looper by Rian Johnson is a pretty good sci-fi film with many problems but also great and impactful scenes. Hope you guys watch that one :)

William Burnham

Danica McKellen was Winnie in the Wonder Years, is a maths genius and actress

Kevin

Yall really gotta watch the sequel. Glass Onion. Also great. And they just announced the name of the third one coming today.

Xeph

Harlan was much older than Fran, but Fran did still die despite getting to the hospital, it just took longer.

Xeph

Clue and this do actually have some more similarities, both are dark comedies that turn the whodunit genre on its head, just in very different ways.

Philipp Roensch

Such a great movie, and you see more details with every rewatch, so good. I really loved also the humor intersected with it, biting commentary and of course Blanc's monologues. You should see Glass Onion.

megamoo chilli

I really really like this movie. The pacing is great, every scene is full of information, there are very few lull scenes. You see a lot of extra details and subtle character quirks which only make sense on rewatching. Glass Onion isn't as good but you should watch it. I like that the portrait of Plummer changes expression from disapproval to approval when Marta has won at the end.

djKENTO

So Benoit Blanc’s accent. Is it accurate? Honestly hard to say. Men who tend to have the strong southern gentleman drawl in this fashion tend to be theatrical and play with the way they speak. It’s one of the rare “unique” accents where the person who adopts it truly makes it their own. There’s a commonality but personality shines through. So is it accurate? Yes. It’s accurate to Benoit Blanc and him alone. Haha.

El Mémé

Knew you'd love it !

Odd Thomas

Glass Onion is a bit OTT compared to Knives Out but still fun. Another good Daniel Craig comedy is Logan Lucky.

djKENTO

Movies I enjoy where Chris Evans isn’t lawful good AT ALL (that you haven’t already reacted to): Puncture, London, Sunshine and Street Kings which has Keanu Reeves in his MOST UNLIKEABLE role. I mean Keanu plays a REAL piece of shit.

djKENTO

oh and one last thing… This movie is by Rian Johnson… if you ever decide to do the most recent Star Wars films get ready for the comments to be either defending him or wishing he had died with little in between. Also if you liked this Rian created a detective TV show with Natasha Lyone (who is in the American Pie films) and it’s called Poker Face. It is also super snappy and fun like this.

James O'Sullivan

Love this film so much. Everything ties up so satisfyingly. Even an easily missed, throw away line from Harlan about Ransom comes back at the end: "…until you can’t tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.”

Brant

Time to watch the other “Daniel Craig solves a mystery surrounding Christopher Plummer’s awful family” movie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Harry Fieldson

It's a very different sequel - but Knives Out: Glass Onion is also a lot of fun!

Poddington

Really fun movie. Reminicient of classic "Who Dunnits" with some great twists. Everyone in this must have had such a great time.

james repka

Christopher Plummer was Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music for gosh sake! Also worth noting that he was 90 years old when the movie was released but his character was "only" 85 in the movie (and appeared many years younger than that. There's a great "making of a scene" video in which Johnson talks in detail about shooting the scene with all of the Thrombeys in the room just before the will reading. Glass Onion is specifically not a sequel, sharing nothing with Knives Out other than the character of Benoit Blank (and that Johnson regular Noah Segan appears in it, but not as Trooper Wagner). It stands on its own as a film to be judged on its considerable merits, not only to be compared with its predecessor. Of course you've seen Johnson's work before -- He directed the Breaking Bad episode Fly (S3:10); you just watched Fifty One (S5:04); and coming up soon you have Ozymandias (S5:14), possibly the greatest episode of the series.

FranciscoGios

Rian Johnson for the win 🏆. I do believe his becoming a top producer from the 2000s.

Ste Rawlings

Rian Johnson said it's less a who dunnit and more a why and how they dunnit.

scott melton

Oh! I've been to that thing Simone was talking about. Went from Seattle up to BC. There were all sorts of tree/logger related feats. Like, running on top of logs in water.

schnoobs

I hope they do Rian Johnsons Directorial debut Brick. really good whodunit, neo-noir movie and i would love a rewatch.

MacGuffinStuff

Chris Evans plays a totally horrific character in another movie with Michael Shannon, the Ice Man. It's based on the (kinda) true story of Richard Kuklinski, the Ice Man Klller, Michael Shannon plays Kuklinski, who did murder some people, he claims he murdered a lot more but most people who would know seem to think he was a bullshitter. That movie is okay, meh; I'd much rather recommend the sequel to this one, even though I haven't seen it yet lol. Love Knives Out, probably going to love Glass Onion, but I'm waiting to watch with Cinebinge.

YukoValis

Conversation near the start Harlan talking about his son: "Jesus there's so much me in that kid. Confident, stupid, I dunno. Protected. Playing life like a game without consequence, till you can't tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife."

rick trevino

great reaction , love this movie. please do glass onion too. also add Death on the river nile with kenneth brannaugh, another good "who done it"

Ron

Since you guys enjoyed this, I'd also like to recommend, "Deathtrap (1982)," with Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve, and Dyan Cannon. Lots of fun!

Samuel Bruce

Love this movie, Ana De Armad and Daniel Craig are amazing in this.

Justin Feldman

Not a huge fan of the sequel, but I'm excited for the third film. I think this movie is great, to the point where I watched it (on streaming) my friend and I stopped halfway through to step away and go through theories. It was very fun to "solve" the mystery after 30 minutes but know that it was clearly wrong.

Big Gee

Great reaction. Can’t wait for Glass Onion another good mystery

Princess Mia

i love this movie so much more than glass onion tbh

Jared Winn

I don’t know how “accurate” his accent was because it was so flamboyant and over-the-top, but the fact he was doing a Louisiana accent and they kept calling him Kentucky-fried was great. They don’t know where Marta is from either. Idk if it is as apparent to anyone not from the South, but I kinda equate it to when George makes note of when Chinese actors are doing certain accents or languages that are not their own.

Sckmnky

What'd you try at the Tibetan restaurant?

Dustin Duvall

Hamilton reference, yall have to watch it now

REDR58

If they are going to watch the Kenneth Branagh Poirot movies, they should start with “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017), “Death on the Nile” (2022) and then “A Haunting in Venice” (2023). Then again, the David Suchet Poirot TV show and TV movies are far superior to any of those.

REDR58

George and Simone, I guess you didn’t recognize Jaeden Martell (the Nazi child) from the “It” movies?

Gary Fixler

One of my many hobbies is knitting, and Chris' torn aran sweater was all the rage for a little while in that world. There were patterns and projects all over for weeks.

Renee MeowMeow Beans

LOVE Logan Lucky!! One of my fav Soderbergh movies! 😁 I get why some people consider Glass Onion OTT and maybe not as "good." I get a huge kick out of it. I love the "old" Agatha Christie movies with Ustinov and Finney as Poirot (Death on the Nile, Murder on the Orient Express, etc) - and those movies are OTT, too. I think it's a lovely flavor to whodunits - the suspects are all larger than life characters who say and do outrageous things. It's a bit pulpy, and for me that's what separates it from a normal find-the-killer murder mystery. And I find it GORgeous to look at. 🙂

Renee MeowMeow Beans

I think that's a big part of why I really like Rian's stuff - all the actors seem to be having such a great time. 🙂

Jpsynergy

When you watch this movie again you notice how everything fits together so perfectly. Even the fake knife at the end. If you remember Harlan talking to Marta about Ransom and him living life like a game without consequences, until he can't tell the difference between a real knife and a stage prop. Great stuff.

YukoValis

She said in 5 minutes he will feel symptoms. 10 minutes until shutdown. He said we have 8 minutes left. He told the entire plan within 4 minutes which gave him time to use the knife. Although I will add he should have known instantly if he got a shot of morphine. That is a feeling you can't miss.

Dustin Duvall

You're right on about the symptoms. If he was panicked, then maybe it wouldn't register, but as calm as he was, you'd think he'd realize he felt fine. But a small nitpick in a very fun movie

Tenn Seven

Since you sounded confused, George, "Glass Onion" is a song by the Beatles.

Gary Fixler

McKellar, and she was a lot of guys my age (mid-40s now)'s first crush, or one of our big earliest crushes. She has a series of math books geared to girls, but I got them anyway, because they were cheap in a used book shop. They look like magazines you'd buy at the grocery store checkout line, like People and Cosmopolitan, but all math inside. My buddy gave me a printout of the paper she co-authored for Christmas a long time ago, and I long ago memorized the title, in case I ever run into her. I can say "OMG, you're the girl from..." and she'll be thinking "yeah, yeah, The Wonder Years," and I finish with "...Gibbs State Multiplicity for Ferromagnetic Ashkin Teller Models on Z2!"

William Burnham

You are quite right with McKellar, typing has never been my forten 😊😊😊
