This is such a good movie

Happy Hanukkah

"George... He's that reactor who's strangely focused on Clint Eastwood's nipples, right?" :-P :-) Oh! This is the movie where Clint looks angry/disgruntled/curmudgeonly*! Why didn't you say so? :-) * "She said that you have been, in her words, 'carrying on cranky.' I looked up the word 'cranky,' it said 'grouchy.' I looked up word 'grouchy,' it said 'crotchety.'"

I was in college at the time this movie was made and my best friend from high school went to Michigan State and was a friend with the girl who plays Sue and I got to meet her after this was filmed. She's a real sweetheart.

you should check out 8 mile one of these days

A bit of trivia that wasn't shown here. The original setting for this movie was supposed to be Minneapolis where there is a good size Hmong population and where the writers are originally from but was filmed and set in Detroit, where there is not much of a Hmong population, because, at the time, Michigan was offering tax incentives for movies shot in the state.

Aaron Stinson

The Dollars Trilogy is a must watch, if you want to see Clint in his prime.

Die Vernon

The Jamie Cullum song at the end is awesome

2026-09-14 06:00 Not my “Gran Torino”! This is more like my Gran Torino (the car): https://youtu.be/CdOiqsMLS4E?si=Zli3OStdsWuJV6UG Fun fact, the composer for the first season of “Starsky & Hutch” is Lalo Schifrin who also did the music for the “Mission: Impossible” TV series and composed the music for a number of Clint Eastwood movies, including “Kelly’s Heroes” and the “Dirty Harry” series. Paul Michael Glaser plays Starsky in “Starsky & Hutch” is also a director (he directed “The Running Man”) and a number episodes “S&H” and a number of other TV series.

Such a great movie and just a good role by Eastwood and he didn't even have to flirt with any children. Wait, I guess he kinda did again ever so slightly?

A few other reactors did Million Dollar Baby recently and I forgot how insanely good that movie is. Highly recommended along with, of course, Unforgiven.

If I'm not mistaken, by the time Clint Eastwood made this film, he wanted to get away from his image of taking-out all the "Bad Guys" at the end to a more Realistic Approach that an "Old Man" could/would really do to stop the Bad Guys... And It Worked...

Jeff K

How dare you mention Lalo Schifrin and not mention what might be the pinnacle of his work, Enter the Dragon. I said GOOD DAY, sir!

I never realized what a huge Hmong population there is in Minnesota until I was watching a travel show (I think it was Stephen Fry in America?) that talked about it. And now, of course, Suni Lee has become a global name as the first person of Hmong descent to win the Olympic all-around gold in gymnastics.

@29:30 The screen door to Walt's basement much resembles the screen he was looking through during his confession in church. Walt confesses sins to Tao he didn't mention in his confession to Father Janovich. I loved this so much because it shows the respect and friendship Walt had developed with Tao. He was willing to share with him some of his darkest regrets in the war that he didn't share with anyone else.

2026-09-14 06:00 Clint Eastwood wasn't even aware they were filming

The best Eastwood double feature is The Outlaw Joey Wales, followed by Unforgiven. He directed both. Although they were written by different screenwriters and made years apart, they make a great contrast to each other. In some ways Unforgiven is a deliberate deconstruction of Josey Wales, and films like it.

That sounds like the premise for a Cumtown bit with Nick Mullen doing an impression of Clint Eastwood.

I love how his dead body is in a Christ on the cross position. He gave his life to save others. One of the best films I’ve ever seen, gets better with every rewatch.

I'm very much of two minds about this film. It's undoubtedly well put together, and the authenticity of casting actual Hmong people instead of random other Asian nationalities speaks to honest sincerity. But there have been some troubling stories told by the cast and crew of how the Hmong actors were actually treated during the production. According to the internet grapevine (so take the story with a grain of salt) Bee Vang (Thao) actually threw out his Clint Eastwood DVD collection afterwards because of how he was treated while making the movie. I don't know which (if any) of the rumors are true, but they definitely color how I perceive the film.

chazzmania13

One of Eastwood's best! I'd highly recommend Million Dollar Baby as a follow up. Eastwood directed and produced it also and it won best picture and director as well as a best supporting actor for Morgan Freeman and best actress for Hillary Swank.

George stop predicting all the jokes lol you’re too smart for your own good

In my freshman year of college a girl from one my classes asked me to smoke weed with her in her car, and while we were there she asked me what race I am. I told her I'm Jamaican and Irish and she said, "That's crazy, I've always said I'd marry a Jamaican-Irish" My response? "Wow, that's wild.... ight I gotta go" .... I actually thought she was just telling me about a funny coincidence..

J. Valentine

There's not a lot of things they could have done. the pointy finger is a major event in the movie also.

Timothy Sugiura

In high school there was at least 5 girls that all were interested in me over the course of those 5 years and I fee now that I would have been lucky to date any of them. But being the stupid teen that I was with my head in the clouds I failed to think of it as anything other than flirting... Oh and freshman year a friend that I've known since we were in diapers that I had a major crush on of course also had a major crush on me but we were both to dumb to say anything and we stopped talking for 14 years! Stop doing the math! We talk now and she's one of my closest friends but we want different things from life so a romance wouldn't work.

Christina Doxstader

He doesn't confess anything about the war because he feels he did nothing wrong. It may still haunt him but he did what he had to do in order to get home alive. He figured god understands that as well.
