Betsy is such a bitch I love her. Lol she’s awful for sure, but I also love her.

Kudos to you two for being able to fill the dialogue droughts in this show so seamlessly. There have been a lot of them already, and you guys breeze through them without missing a beat.

Cartoons ReAct

Hydrox is the original cookie from early 20th century, Oreos copied them

The scene where Mike finds the money is a classic case of Vince Gilligan firing on all cylinders. A lesser show would probably have Jimmy give a Danny Ocean voiceover explaining every step of the plan, but Gilligan has enough faith in his audience that he'll just let everything play out without any dialogue.

2026-09-14 06:00 I'd love to respond to all the questions you guys have in the outro, but the only correct response is, the show will answer all your questions (and relatively soon). I don't know why I thought season 1 was longer, but rewatching it with you made it go by in a blink. Looking forward to the last 2 episodes next week!

FWPJR.

Finally, it’s Better Call Saul Tuesday. I always look forward to seeing you two react to TV shows I love. You two did a fantastic job reacting to Breaking Bad, and so far you two are doing a fantastic job reacting to Better Call Saul. Keep it up✌🏻

mraran

Seriously. Buckle up.

FWPJR.

I feel the same way lol I thought I was weird for that when I first watched this, so at least I know there’s someone else who feels the same way as I do.

Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act You basically nailed it. It’s the law that allows an individual to be charged for ongoing criminal activity done as part of a criminal enterprise if he’s committed at least two illegal actions from a list of somewhere around 30+ crimes. It’s basically saying you can’t claim you’re just a cog and the machine is the actual criminals. You may be a cog but you’re just as much a criminal in the eyes of the law.

No one has ever been able to do long, quiet, lingering scenes, and let you just sit in them for minutes at a time where seemingly nothing is happening, and still make it absolutely enthralling, like Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. (EDIT: I should be specific and say "on TV" because obviously, Hitchcock is the master at this sort of thing, but honestly... Gilligan and Gould absolutely give him a run for his money, IMO.)

These two episodes really show the hard work Jimmy does, and we see that Jimmy actually can do the right thing, it just always screws him over as well. I believe he did fairly pass the bar, with all the requirements, the remote University and "third try", is something Chuck would disapprove off though. Yes, the smoke corner has a cool light, it is noir style even, what could it mean? :)

Actuarial Lurker

The diner where they Jimmy meets the Kettlemens is also the same one we see in Breaking Bad- where Jesse and Walter eat, where Lydia meets Mike with the "hazard pay" list and other scenes

Actuarial Lurker

Season 1 of BCS is set in 2002...the Episode flashback is in the 1990s since we learned that he moved for Cicero to work in the mailroom 10 years prior and then took years to go to law school at night and pass the Bar exam

PIG

I love the eyeglasses on the Sandpiper manager. They're so thick and reflective it's hard to see her eyes behind them. Kinda makes her kind of menacing in a very practical, subtle way. Something she's hiding.

*Yawn* dammit Simone...

Dan Holmes

Their joy watching this is so bittersweet lol

Hydrox cookies (released in 1908) were before Oreo (1912). Oreo was the knock-off. But, obviously, they eventually won the Coke vs Pepsi-style popularly game.

Homestar

I don't know if other people have said this, but Bob Odenkirk nearly turned down this role. I'm so happy he didn't, he's so good in this show and he just gets better as it goes on.

mojo shivers

The funny thing about Hydrox is they invented that type of cookie, but Oreo made it popular. Hydrox tried to claim invention but I guess it was hard to prove. So now Hydrox is thought of as the cover and Oreo is the original, but it’s actually vice-versa. Just shows what a good marketing department can do.

myinniemademedoit

If I’m being honest, I’d let Betsy Kettleman boss me around any day…

Jeff K

Good marketing, including a VASTLY better name. Hydrox sounds like a cleaning product.

Jeff K

Also similar to the GoBots vs Transformers battle, with GoBots being introduced to the market a year before Transformers.

Villa Lobos

I know I had my count off. I thought this was the last two episodes of the season. I was so excited, for now we enjoy the calm before the storm.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

I know times are probably mentioned or shown at some point but it’s a little superfluous and threatens to break illusion when you go to those scenes and realize Bob Odenkirk is supposed to be in his early thirties at best vs his early fifties.

Villa Lobos

A little detail I think Simone and George may miss is when Howard entered the mailroom for Jimmy’s party. He called him a regular Charlie Hustle, that was/is the nickname for the baseball player Pete Rose. Pete Rose was one of the greatest players of all time. He holds the record for the most hits in a career, 3 World Series, was even a manager and player at the same time for his last team. What’s he’s the most know now is his scandal where he was actually betting on baseball while he was playing and coaching. Rending him ineligible for a spot in the Hall of Fame. His accomplishments on the field meant nothing only his criminal actions matter to people.

Josiah Kane

Please keep that cat away from the mic, it's insane how loudly it sputters and purrs into it.

You two mentioned Jimmy keeping his suit on while dumpster diving, and I saw somebody else online make a BRILLIANT comment on that a few years ago (It was so insightful I wish I had thought of it myself). Lawyer's wear suits. Two-bit conmen don't. Slippin' Jimmy never wore a suit. Criminals and crooks may steal things from dumpsters, but they dress in black and cover their faces when they do it. If he's wearing a suit, then he's a LAWYER. He's not backsliding, he's not scheming, he's PRACTICING LAW. We saw the same thing a few episodes when he went into woods to find the Kettlemans. He didn't put on sneakers or change into shorts, he stayed in his suit. Because he wanted it to be lawyer-ly activity. Jimmy wants so desperately to be a "real lawyer" that he can't bring himself to drop the trappings of being a lawyer even when he should. Because if he does, then it's harder to convince HIMSELF that he's not just doing exactly what Slippin' Jimmy would do.

George: "I like competent people doing things competently" Cut to: Mike doing Mike things.

Michele

You should listen to the BCS insider podcast. They have great interviews with the actors including the Kettlemens.

Rob Bob

If you guys get this excited over Sandpiper, you're gonna eat this show UP. Also they've introduced one of the best side characters in the show, Rich Schweikart

Justin Leone

George, if you enjoy competence porn, give the show Burn Notice a try. It is entirely about some of the most preternaturally and creatively competent people just solving the hell out of impossible situations with relatively plausible methods. And the main character narrates throughout to explain how they're doing it. Also, Bruce Campbell is one of the main characters, and he's just never not fun to watch.

Justin Leone

Good catch. Another fun detail in this scene is that we learn that one of Jimmy's friends in the mailroom is named Bert. We'll later learn that the other one is named Ernie.

Allan

The bingo winner's cats being named Oscar and Felix is a reference to The Odd Couple, which was originally a stage play about a slob named Oscar and a neat freak named Felix who both get divorced and wind up as roommates. It was adapted into a 1968 movie with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, then a popular 70s sitcom. There have also been a couple sitcom remakes including one in 2015 that starred Matthew Perry as Oscar. Maybe a stretch but I think there's a bit of an Oscar and Felix dynamic with Jimmy and Mike.. or Jimmy and Chuck maybe? It's funny though, because Jimmy can take on either role depending on who his counterpart is. The duality of Jimmy.

Simon Pegged Me

I agree: the firm is going to take this case from Jimmy. As soon as Chuck got involved, they got involved. Jimmy found the case, absolutely, but Chuck appears to be doing all the legal work, while Jimmy sleeps. With $6 million dollars on the line, their share of the possible $20 million dollars settlement, there's no way the firm lets Slippin' Jimmy try the case. They'll want their team to step in. I also think that's why Chuck wasn't excited to hear his brother passed the bar. He's still sees him as Slippin' Jimmy, and he sees Jimmy's membership in the bar as his latest con. He wants nothing to do with him. Jimmy asking Chuck for a job had to be Chuck's worst nightmare.

Paul T Hewes

Julie Ann Emery is quite an attractive woman...And I imagine the Betsy character was quite a handful, behind closed doors.

Joel

The bearded man on the "wanted" poster directly above Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) in the opening scene is later spotted in the restroom of the diner whilst Jimmy is on the phone.

james repka

I think the Kettlemans are great for the beginning of the show. I like their dynamic, I love that they are a conniving criminal conspiracy run by Betsy, and that they hide it all behind their happy-go-lucky nuclear family. And that the family is not a façade, it is really them. My only problem with them is, I absolutely know why Jimmy wants them as his clients, he really doesn't have anyone else. But why would HHM want them in the first place? They are obviously idiots, and they are clearly guilty. It's a big case but it offers HHM nothing but bad publicity.

Athenor

I'm so glad you are enjoying the show, I knew you would like all the Mike scenes but many complain the show starts too slow but I never thought that. Also I didn't catch this in previous watchings but when Mike's daughter in law asks him if he can watch his granddaughter he opens the gate and waves someone through without checking for stamps

Redrum Sacrament

Seeing Jimmy and Chuck together reminds me of someone I used to take care of due to their mental health. I did his laundry because the studio he was staying at didn't have one, groceries, errands, and take him for car rides at night. When I came over with his groceries, we hang out for a while talk and chat about whatever was happening in the news or Youtube, movies etc. It takes me back. I thought Better Call Saul came out in 2017, but it was season two that came out in 2017. I had to binge watch through Breaking Bad and season one of Better Call Saul before the next season was coming out. The ending when Chuck not realizing what he was doing because he was so focused on the case is still a trip lol

Adam Wetstein

i love that mrs kettleman actress Julie Ann Emery has gone one too many good parts

Vwlss Nvwls

My favorite part of episode seven was listening to Simones cat purring. :D

Maikeru Dagurasu

lmao during the scene with saul & the kettlemans in the diner I heard a sound and it took me like 15 secs to found out what it is, then I saw simone´s cat and I was like omg that´s the cat purring xD

Michael

I don’t feel that bad for Jimmy he didn’t get to keep the 30k. It wasn’t his. He took it as a bribe from people who stole it from others. His girlfriend gets them as clients so he is still benefitting

Ginger

I like how in the last shot of episode 7 you can VERY clearly see two members of the crew in the reflection of the window, one quickly ducking behind a chair. xD
