My favorite movie from childhood. My local independent tv channel used to play this at least once a month.

Arcade Sufi

Yeah, I think Rockstar developed it.

Matt Carroll

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Glad you watched it and enjoyed it

Arcade Sufi

This film always kind of reminded me of a clockwork orange, mainly because of the whole gang dynamic and strange costumes.

Twisty Twitties

A childhood favourite of mine! Should definitely check out the game at somepoint too its great

Pam Nail

A few years ago I recreated the Warriors' journey from Coney Island to the Bronx and back, including getting off where the tracks were on fire and walking (not running, ew) to another stop. During the day, of course.

MarkGauci85

Great Movie! Had to watch the youtube version cause i only have the Ultimate director's cut and scoured the internet trying to find the theatrical and couldn't find it. Still, the youtube version was still great.

FWPJR.

I played that game and it was really good, I love PS2 and I still miss playing it and the games on it. I still hate myself for throwing it away when I bought PS3 lol

Mike FromOz

This thumbnail is amazing! I will be watching the Patreon version, but I just love the thumbnails you make!

Mike Miner

Yes, "Swan" fathered several famous actors. He was known as Genghis Swan.

The movie also has a game, The Warriors, which is a prequel to the movie (And is also fantastic) and it has a comic book called The Warriors: Jailbreak which is a sequel. Also Sol Yurick's book is a lot more brutal and does nothing to paint the Warriors, in the book called the Dominators, in a positive light.

mcfierce24

Cannnnnnnn you diggggggggg itttttttt?

mcfierce24

The main bad guy also played "T-Bird" in The Crow if you thought he looked familiar

What people told you is correct, this is a (very loose) adaptation of Xenophon's "Anabasis". A group of Greek mercenaries (known as 'The Ten Thousand') were hired by a Persian noble to help take over the empire (Cyrus the Younger). He died in battle, and then the Greek soldiers had to journey home while surrounded on all sides by enemies. Xenophon was one of the Ten Thousand, and recounted the adventure later in his life. Somebody above already mentioned that in the original book the Warriors (There called the Dominators) weren't treated nearly as sympathetically as they were in this movie. I like how even thought they've definitely been softened in the film, they're still not really "the good guys". They're a gang just like all the others. If they were on their turf and another gang tried to walk through, they'd probably attack them just like the Orphans did. They don't talk about how they're a Good Gang who only fights when they have to, or show any concern for bystanders and fallout from what's going on. They're just A Gang. But it so happens they're a gang which didn't START this, so that puts us on their side. That was a great angle, and I think that's why this had such a big impact.

A few extra bits of trivia to go with the movie - When James Remar (Ajax) was auditioning for the film, he was in a room with a table, and acted out the scene where he was being arrested in the park. He decided to completely get into it, and acted furiously, grabbing one part of the table as if he was handcuffed to it. He ended up lifting the entire table, which shocked the director and assembled people there, and in that moment earned him the role of Ajax, which he said helped pave the way for the rest of his career. Michael Beck (Swan) was not so lucky. He was on a high after the Warriors movie, and was cast as the male lead in the film "Xanadu" with Olivia Newton-John, which was such a stinker and a bomb at the box office that it pretty much ended his career before it could blossom. Thomas G. Waites (Fox, the guy who saw Cyrus being shot) had a series of conflicts with the director of the film, Walter Hill, and was fired from the movie. He was supposed to have been Mercy's love interest in the film, but it was re-written for her to instead go with Swan (which I think makes more sense). Waites asked for his name to be removed from the credits, but he and the director have apparently since made up. He also played the role of "Windows" in the movie "The Thing". The neighbour who scared David Patrick Kelly, was actually another kid, who used to do the whole sing-songy kind of voice when he called out "Dayyyyviiiddddd... come out to plaaayy-ayyyy!". It scared him so much he thought it would be good to use in the scene. Looking around him on set, he found the three bottles, and decided to clink them together to add to the menacing tone of his character, "Luther". He also credits this movie for helping him become successful in his movie career, often playing bad guys.

Mike FromOz

Which is great. I mean, comparison this to "A Clockwork Orange". Who the hell do you support in that movie? None of the gangs are good, and the state authorities are also horrendous.

Mike FromOz

I also really love how you both picked up on the 'fixing the hair' moment on the train when the prom kids were looking down on them like they were scum. Swan didn't want Mercy to feel like she wasn't beautiful, wasn't worthwhile, even though she was dirty and sweaty from running and fighting all night. 'Don't feel like you need to make yourself pretty for these assholes'. It said a lot without saying anything. Truly, out of all the gangs the Warriors came up against that night, the Prom Kids were the worst.

Villa Lobos

To any fans of this movie and its director Walter Hill. Please check out the 1984 film Streets of Fire. It got young Willem Dafoe, Rick Moranis, Diane Lane, Amy Madigan, and even Bill Paxton. Also the soundtrack is FUCKING FIRE!

Feignorance

The video game Warframe has a radio character that is inspired from the DJ in this movie.

John Zelinka

One of my top ten movies of all time! The look (thank you DoP!), the music, the plot....wow!

Galactic Cannibl

Simone always immediately spots actors from Sex and the City! 😂🥰

Gerald Walker

quick note- David Patrick Kelly who plays the evil gang leader was also in John Wick- he plays the cleaner that John calls to remove the bodies from him House

Mike Miner

I was literally expecting George to make this pun. I blame George for everything.

Mike Miner

Not sure if I should admit this, but I come from a very white community in Utah, and back when I was like 10 or so, we'd watch this movie on our VCR players and run around the neighborhood and pretend to be The Warriors! "You guys be the Baseball Furies and we'll be The Warriors!" Don't ask me why/how we were able to get copies of this movie or "Halloween" or other R-rated movies at the time! As spooky season approaches it all reminds me of how many scary movies were coming out in the early 80s... and again... how did we get our hands on these movies???

REDR58

Just don't try to recreate Rocky's training run/montage from Rocky and Rocky II in Philadelphia as it's not as linear as it appears in the movies, instead actually jumps all over the city. :)

Happy Hanukkah

Marcel was often by his side, and he sure got Pyotr moving!

SMad DAford

The Warriors are Chang Gang

Happy Hanukkah

Cyrus is played by Roger Hill. "In later years, Hill retired from acting and worked as a part-time librarian along with writing poetry." 7:16 "How do you get the rights to shoot in a graveyard?" Are you kidding? Graveyards are filled with people who have been shot! :-P 8:40 A reasonable choice, but I'd have gone with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNml0VJ4pQA 19:50 Army recruitment poster. 25:46 Who dat? Surely not Aidan Quinn.

Happy Hanukkah

Apropos James Remar, here's a strong recommendation for RED (2010). Granted, he doesn't get much screen time given the presence of Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Helen Mirren, Brian Cox, Julian McMahon, a special surprise appearance, and even Ernest Borgnine.

Happy Hanukkah

Should the IP villains shut down Cinebinge, will you be returning as "Du côté de chez Swan"?

Happy Hanukkah

By the way, the undercover cop who arrests Ajax is the acclaimed Mercedes Ruehl in one of her first roles*. You will not be surprised when I follow up this factoid with a request for For Roseanna (aka Roseanna's Grave) (1997), in which she plays the title character, alongside Jean Reno.** * You've seen her in another small role as the mom in Last Action Hero. ** Others might tell you to go with The Fisher King instead, but since that isn't what I want, I recommend you ignore them.

Colin Reid

The character Mercy wasn’t supposed to have that jacket but she broke her arm during filming and the jacket was to hide the (plaster)cast.

Lex Kuzma

George! You keep mispronouncing McNutty. There's no "L". Just ask Bubs.

Mike FromOz

I love Mercedes so damn much. She is so damn gorgeous 😍
