They could do the two Prometheus films, but don't want to continue with the actual Alien films. Seeing Resurrection first will hurt Romulus. They're part of the lucky few who get to watch Romulus without having the baggage from Resurrection skewing their opinion. Can't really say more than that without spoiling anything

Taxi Driver is such a classic. So many films borrow heavily from it. Joker is basically just Taxi Driver meets King of Comedy.
