Been up 90 minutes waiting for this to drop so I can watch along with ya... don't call me stupid!

JayF

I also woke up early so I could watch this before I have to leave for work. This reaction is long overdue.

Tall Paul

I was going to subscribe but I was too distracted by George's cat.

Such a gem of a comedy! Kevin Kline’s performance in this is brilliantly funny and won him an Oscar for Supporting Actor, which was out of left field at the time too. Also taught us that Aristotle wasn’t Belgian after all…

My biggest grocery store pet peeve involves anytime someone who is finished with the shopping cart in the parking lot after loading everything to the car are A: leaving the car in the lot without returning it to the cart corral or B: going through the extra effort to jam the cart up and over the edge of the nearest divider island/curb leaving the cart half up on the island and half on the lot, inconveniencing any cart attendant who has to come over and drag it off the island. Also Simone, in every grocery store checkout I’ve used here in the US, the scanner detects weight, even the weight of your shopping bag so you can’t put it down until you are ready to start. Otherwise it thinks your bag is an item that you bought. Often there is a bracket to hold the handle of the bag so it helps the bag stand upright when you loop the handle over the bracket.

For more Kevin Cline (and Denzel) please consider Cry Freedom. It would be a great pick for Black History Month.

George towards the end, "A very young (Stephen) Fry" Me, "Or...a fish Fry"

Rupert Purcat

So funny, a great movie - now you must do Faulty Towers..... please

Darin Foat

John Cleese met Kevin Kline when they were both in a western called Silverado, and he wrote the part of Otto specifically for him.

Pete Johansson

Usually dont comment here, but this movie is one of my favorites. If you like this, you should consider Clockwise. Probably Cleeses best one.

Brandon

I never noticed until this viewing that the character George's full name is George Thomason, played by the actor Tom Georgeson. 😂

The Pythons once wrote a sketch about a joke so funny that if you heard it you'd die laughing so I guess it was life imitating art.

Opti_Frog

Kevin Kline's oscar for best supporting actor was well deserved.

I saw this one in the theater. Damn I am old. It was so much fun back then, and still a ton of fun. Having grown up watching reruns of Monty Python on television, I have always enjoyed all the movies that crew does. Kevin Kline was so good in this, and Michael Palin was amazingly funny as usual. I just love this movie.

LazyArtist

One of the great comedies from my youth. I'm surprised it's been so overlooked. Tootsie, too. (Hint.)

I worked with a guy who had a stutter, and my coworkers would always make fun of him, but I never did. I would always notice when he talked to me that he never stuttered. :)

Kevin Kline's Oscar win for this is one of my favorites ever. People often don't realize how much harder comedy is than drama, but it really is, hence the reason so many comedic actors are so good at drama (Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Billy Connolly, Steve Carell, etc). I love this character so much and to this day, still yell "asshooooooole" whenever someone pulls off a particularly obnoxious move on the road.

Don't call me stupid!

AgentFalcon

This type of comedy is called a "farce". If you want more, the same cast re-united and did a spiritual sequel called Fierce Creates (1997). Well worth a watch.

Goldfish swallowing was a college student stunt in the US for a while doing it on a dare or a bet to see who could swallow the most fish.

StonyD

I LOVE when Wendy gets Otto's improv fake name flawlessly word-perfect in reply "Mr Manfrenjenensen" lmao!!

Monica Alarcon

I found it hilarious that George Thomason was played by the actor Tom Georgeson...

James O'Sullivan

Agree Clockwise is great, probably has one of my favourite lines of all time in it. "It's the hope"

Gary Fixler

I've heard people yell it just that way all throughout my life, and I've known about this movie since it was in previews, but this is the first time I've seen it, and it's good to finally place it.

REDR58

Fun reaction. First time watching for me. You guys missed the “Fin” (finish) joke at the end of the credits! James Earl Jones, Emily Blunt, Harvey Keitel, Nicole Kidman and Bruce Willis were some famous people who were stutterers.

JarHead0351

sequel called Fierce Creates (1997).

SpankTheMonk

I fell like Ryan Reynolds spirit animal is a mix of Betty White and Kevin Kline. Also “I Love You To Death” is a gem of an older comedy! Featuring a baby bad boy Keanu.

StonyD

That's because YOU are not an asshole like the rest of those people : )

pinkdino99

Another weird and wonderful fantasy adventure and sub-Python movie is Time Bandits by Terry Gilliam which also features Cleese and Palin in supporting roles.

SpankTheMonk

Wow Kevin Kline ages like fine wine 🍷. He is almost 80, and I just saw him on a new Apple TV Plus show serendipitously 😀

In fairness that fad goes back about 100 years (not that young folks over the years haven't created dumber and more dangerous ones).

Self-checkout in store best. You just scan everything with your phone and put it straight in your backpack or whatever, if you get randomly controlled, you'll just pull out a couple of items, have them scanned and that's it. Blasting through the checkout in like 15 seconds saves a lot of pain imho, if it weren't for the fucking families taking a literal half hour trying to scan their heaping shopping cart. Fuck you, that's what the normal registers are for.

If you have any interest in another Python-adjacent movie check out 'The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash' (1978). It has appearances by two Pythons and one Beatle. If you're a fan of comedy or music you may enjoy it.
