The Naked Gun 2 1/2 - Patreon Version

Comments

Zoltán Bublos

Although it's a little bit weaker, I still recommend the third movie in the trilogy, very funny. AND I also encourage you to watch Leslie Nielsen's Dracula movie too.

Tim Pierce

The Van Damme movie you are thinking of was a loser in one of your polls. Hopefully someday you get to it.

Jasbro

Dracula Dead and Loving It is one of the funniest movies ever made, hopefully it pops up in a poll or even better they just watch it, it should also be mentioned that is a Mel Brooks movie so expect the same style of comedy as Spaceballs/Blazing Saddles

Odd Thomas

Timecop is a GREAT Van Damme movie you should watch (he does do the splits). The third Naked Gun is pretty weak so I'd skip it.

In regards to O.J. controversy and these movies. The Naked Gun 33 1/3 came out literally months before the murders in 1994. It's not as good as the first two but still fun, and you guys should watch it if just to close out the series.

Maiki

I really like Liam Neeson and his scene in Ted 2 was great, but no one can replace Leslie Nielsen. He was just perfect for this kinda humour. As mentioned, the third one isn't as good, but still has some fun scenes.

JediLounger

The song that Priscilla Presley was singing was indeed a Barbra Streisand song from The Way We Were (1973). This movie made a lot of waves when it came out, and is still discussed today. Likely not a high performer on YouTube, but you guys would like it I think. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070903/

Gleb Melnikov

Jerry Zucker has directed Ghost right before Naked Gun 2, so he basically making a parody of his own movie

Marko T.

I recommend the third movie. They filmed a new Naked Gun movie starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson earlier this year.

Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) by Mel Brooks is great. It stars Leslie Nielsen. You should watch Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) before it to get the references.

If it makes you feel better, the directors' commentary on the DVDs make fun of OJ the whole time he's on screen. Like every low hanging fruit you could think of. "Oh no, he's got a gun! And a bigger gun!" type stuff. I guess there isn't much of a performance to appreciate or anything, so why not just roast the hell out of him.

Jeb Manning

Jim Abrahams was such a great comedic writer. RIP to one of the legends. I do hope you'll react to Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult and Police Squad!, the TV show that started the Naked Gun series. They're so funny.

Jeb Manning

I also have to highly recommend the 1982 horror comedy anthology Creepshow, directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King. It consists of five short horror stories and pays tribute to the EC horror comics of the 1950s, such as Tales from the Crypt, The Vault of Horror, and The Haunt of Fear. It's a fantastic horror movie, and one of the highlights is Leslie Nielsen's performance as a villain in one of the segments. It's so eerie if you've only ever seen him doing comedies. He really brings his A-game and even adds some comedic touches to his character. Creepshow is such a fun time.

Hope you watch the third film, but more importantly, please watch Top Secret! (1984).

The lady slapping the police car in the opening credits was Zsa Zsa Gabor. There was a scandal in the late 80s where she was accused of slapping the face of a police officer in Beverly Hills. So that is what it was for. The fact that they actually got Zsa Zsa Gabor to do that was pretty awesome.

Every time I watch one of these Naked Gun movies, it amazes me that Priscilla Presley was married to Elvis. :D

Monica Alarcon

Wait... How do we know that guy dancing with Jane is NOT Mel Tormé???

Mike FromOz

I'd like to recommend "BASEketball", also directed by David Zucker, starring none other than South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Oh, and Squeak, but he's a little bitch.

Gary Fixler

I would like to second (and third, and steal home) this suggestion. It's the dumbest movie, but they will laugh their butts off.

I remember watching the third one back when it came out, and being sad that it seemed to have no background jokes at all—it was really straightforward by comparison—and then I saw an interview with the director(s?), and the guy said they wanted to steer away from the originals, because they had all these background jokes, and you couldn't even see them all, and I said "That was the whole point!" There were so many jokes, you had to watch it several times to catch them all. It felt like when the king told Amadeus "too many notes," like the director(s?) had no idea what made the originals what they were. Anyway, I'm down to watch it again, decades later, because I always like movies better with your reactions. I just remember it being a big let-down, but maybe it'll be fun with you two.

They joke a few times about the Democrats in the movie. In the bar, with all the disasters on the wall (Titanic, Hindenburg, etc.), the last pic is of Democrat Michel Dukakis, who lost to Bush. It's kind of like now, with the right being upset with the left for being soft, and the left being mad at the right for not caring about others. Dukakis was made fun of for his support of the ACLU (woke before the term woke). He took a ride in a tank, as a publicity stunt to look more tough (because it had worked for Thatcher, apparently), and it backfired on him. So the joke in the movie was was that his campaign had been a disaster. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Dukakis#Crime https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Dukakis#Tank_photograph

John Sununu was known to be opposed to the US getting involved in protecting the environment and was instrumental in stifling US participation in international climate talks, so his introduction of all the fossil fuel and dirty energy people in the movie was sort of the on the nose. He was also known for a scandal costing US taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars for making personal trips on government aircraft and not paying it back. Singer and actor Robert Goulet (who had French-Canadian ancestry) plays Quentin Hapsburg. He was also in Beetlejuice (1988). He did a number of movie cameos in later years. The Black Russian joke was probably the funniest one in the movie. The solar powered car was just a Pontiac Fiero (similar to the car Jeannie Bueller drives in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!) “Geraldo” is a reference to Geraldo Riviera who had a trashy interview show back in the 1980s/1990s. The police department M114 armored vehicle that Frank took control of and let all the animals out of the zoo is sort of a joke except that some police departments in the US actually have used such vehicles in the past. I don’t know if any police departments are still using tracked armored vehicles but many do use former US Army armored car / wheeled vehicles. Tracked vehicles are not really ideal for civilian police use as they can damage paved roads and are not exactly fuel efficient, especially ones as old as the Vietnam War-era M113 and M114 types. It’s always funny to see people putting sliencers on revolver pistols such as the one in this movie as silencers cannot silence revolvers! The bomb Frank unplugs is apparently the same prop bomb (though somewhat modified) used in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger” from 1964. The DeLorean DMC-12 is the same kind of car used in the Back to the Future movies. It was an underpowered “sports car” that was pretty much given more cachet after appearing the in the BTTF movies. The DeLorean Motor Company was also a failed concern and John DeLorean had a number of legal problems. Speaking of the DMC-12, you still can or could recently buy new cars that were manufactured from new old stock parts: https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/a30641441/new-delorean-dmc-12-confirmed/

Ha! As I wrote that comment, I thought "It'll probably be in the trivia," but it also felt like something too boring to be trivia 😆

Please watch Elvis (2022)

Frank really reminds me of my dearly departed old dad. Just his mannerisms. There are other Abrams Zucker productions which are brilliant - Top Secret a WWII spoof with Val Kilmer and a collaboration with South Park creators Matt Stowe and Trey Parker called Baseketball.
