Jeff K.

So, uh... can y'all just go ahead and post episode 5 now, too? Pretty please, sugar, all that good stuff?

Stugotz

Bond also exists in Canada LOL

Inkpendude

As someone from south america, Shoes on cables were the old school way of marking a spot. Nowadays they don't even hide + if everyone knows about the shoes, then there's no point anymore

Areokh

11:00"Do you think he believes any of that or just tries to convince himself?" Chuck in S1EP9 "I know you... I know what you were, what you are, PEOPLE DON'T CHANGE. You are slipping Jimmy!" Chuck in S3EP3 "I believe you can change" I don't think he believes that.

Wrwemi

If you watch the cold open again you'll realize that the truck coming from Mexico is now a Los Pollos truck, and not an ice cream truck. So this is definitely happening in the future, when Gus has taken over the drug deliveries. So these ARE the shoes that Mike shot ;)

Sergio Meira

I support the suggestion (from last video) that you guys look up the series "Los Pollos Hermanos training videos for new employees" -- it's very funny, perhaps worth a reaction, and each video is only a couple of minutes. It's part of the, as it were, BCS Cinematic Universe!

Sergio Meira

He doesn't, I think. But he wants to believe, because, like everybody else, he wants to believe he already is the best version of himself. That he still has work to do in overcoming his envy of his brother is something he can't even admit to himself... Can people change? Can Chuck overcome this? I think so. But he's driving away all the people who could help and support him in this task, isn't he?

Noel Valdez

One of the reasons why I love this show. If one the Jimmy and Kim story isnt getting you the Mike one will, and vice versa.

Sergio Meira

Is Chuck playing at something, in his conversation with the prosecutor? Weirdly enough, I don't think he is. In this context -- with nobody there to see it -- I think Chuck is actually letting his... affection for Jimmy show. He would like Jimmy to be a better person, he's just so convinced now that it is either impossible, or needs the debarring / punishing of Jimmy. Which is why this also plays a role in his strategy: that's how he gets the PPD which he used to 'box' Jimmy. Because things can have more than one reason. It's as easy to see Chuck here as an "evil mastermind" as it is to see Jimmy as solely "Slippin' Jimmy" and nothing else. But neither character is that simple. These two brothers are so close to showing true love for each other, and yet Chuck manages to let his envy soil the waters. It's so tragic, such a sad relationship, that it moves me almost to tears.

Sergio Meira

Mike's story is, I think, a crescendo. He's not 'breaking bad', he's just getting slowly, progressively more polluted. Don Héctor threatened his family, now he wants to get him, which is slowly pulling him into Gus Fring's orbit... Mike's story, competence porn aside (which I do appreciate), is one of a slow descent, step by step, into a hell of his own making. Which is the tragedy of that character. It's almost as if he is too competent for his own good, and his family's.

Sergio Meira

"This dynamic (between Jimmy and Chuck) has been going on for three seasons..." To quote something Jimmy will say in a much later episode, 'it seems [Chuck and me] are always having the same conversation'. I think the dynamic you mention is simply a consequence of the fact that, mostly because of Chuck, these two brothers stopped communicating a long time ago, perhaps even before Chuck hired him for the mail room at HHM.

Jeff K.

Plus, the stop sign doesn’t have bullet holes when Mike throws the shoes up. It’s riddled with bullet holes in the cold open.

Monica Alarcon

"Alto" means "stop" and also "high" or "tall". "Sabrosito" means "tasty" or "delicious"

Max Hassam

Bill Burr's character was called Kuby and Lavell Crawford's character was called Huell. In case George is still a bit confuddled, the cartel timeline is as follows: 1988 or so - Gus & Max meet with Dons Eladio, Bolsa and Hector. Hector kills Max. Gus begins to work as transportation for the cartel under Bolsa. A few years later - S3E4 intro. Hector buys the ice cream business & presents Don Eladio with Ximenez, the driver, who is killed by the twins in S2E10 after Mike's truck heist. 2003 - BCS present. Gus has Mike sabotage the ice cream business meaning the cartel now only has one method of transportation: Gus. As per his plan. 2008 - Gus starts his own meth business with the lab & sabotages the cartel's supply line with Hank & the twins. Gus then kills the cartel off. This whole plot by Gus is his revenge, which is what the nurse was referring to when she said "the revenge" to the Doctor, who, by the way, was the one who treated Gus after he poisoned the cartel members (and himself)!

Jeff K.

By the way, I sure hope that Lyle was named the Los Pollos Hermanos Employee of the Month.

Jeff K.

Yeah, regarding the timeline: it's important to remember that Jesse was at the compound with Gus and Mike when Gus killed them all.

Vwlss Nvwls

I have said it before, but Kim is my dream woman.

Max Hassam

Why do you say that? Not sure of it's relevance to BCS or the general timeline

Philipp Roensch

Yes, the Jimmy and Chuck story dynamic has been going on for a while now, but just you wait for the payoff :D. But it is also nice to have Gus back in business, so to speak. Pointing out the food in the show, actually could hold an essay on that, but just in short: ice cream as Hector's front vs the chicken business equates quite well to the scale they operate on. The hearty breakfast is a bald bad guy staple XD and of course alcoholic drinks and cigarettes come back with tempting to do bad things. Meanwhile Jimmy's burger was obviously a bribe to the DA, while he is munching on his budget meal. You are right about the music cue when Gus is inviting in Mike on the lot, certified Breaking Bad moment.

Jeff K.

Because George seemed to be under the impression that if it was current timeline, Eladio would have been dead (since he said that Eladio would have been dead by BCS time). But he wasn't dead until midway through BB. (I'm just adding to your point, not disputing anything you're saying.)

Max Hassam

Yeah I'm not sure why he thought Eladio was dead long in the past lol. Though granted he's only in 2 episodes of BB and one of them is in the past aha

Itbewhatitbe

the answer to why any time george or simone is confused or mixed out about something is this: - is their first time watching, and humans have flawed memory -

Max Hassam

I am aware lol I'm not berating them for misremembering

Paul T Hewes

Rhea really killed as Kim. That she didnt get a single award for this show is criminal.

imperial

That scene in Mexico with Don Eladio is present day. The guy with the beard is not the same guy that gets killed in front of Gus in Breaking Bad. That happened a long time ago. (I think that's why George got confused about the timeline)

Matt Gwinn

After this season, I think you should watch Severance. The second season is coming up in mid January, so now would be a great time to start it. I think you'll love it. Anyone wanna back me up on this?

Sergio Meira

I do! 'Severance' is extraordinarily awesome!

Jay Willis

I think he was thinking of when Max got killed, and I think Simone was talking about when Eladio gets killed. I think they were talking about two different scenes and were going in circles around each other while trying to pay attention.

Jay Willis

The arbitration meeting makes my blood boil. The arbiter is like Chuck, holds herself up as holier than thou and instantly looks down on Jimmy. She has no context for the situation, no understanding of what their dynamics and history are, all she knows is Chuck plays up the "poor sick me" angle and she buys in and instantly takes his side, which is completely unprofessional. When she tells Jimmy his statement is inadequate and basically demands an apology to Chuck I wanted to rip my hair out. If there's one thing I cannot stand it's those who are supposed to be impartial failing to do so and then looking down their nose at the people they're judging. Tough but fair my ass. She was played by Chuck. What I love about the scene though is it supports that Chuck has that side of Jimmy in him as well. He knows how to play people and manipulate them to get what he wants. He just tells himself he's doing it for noble reasons and for the greater good and hides behind it.

Jeff K.

To your last point: yep, as much as Chuck looks down on Jimmy for being a con artist, it's VERY clear that Chuck isn't as different as he holds himself up to be. The con job he pulled on Jimmy to get to this situation has a level of intricacy and deviousness that's straight out of the Slippin' Jimmy playbook.

Duke Running

BCDC “ Bernalillo County Detention Center” fyi

Jeff K.

It may not be an actual crime that Rhea never won an Emmy (and, on that note - Bob Odenkirk should have won at some point, too), but it damn well should be. Her performance is one of my favorite TV performances of all-time. There's a scene in a later season - without getting into spoiler territory - that's wordless, and is a freaking powerhouse performance from her that should have won her all of the awards just for that one scene alone.

Sergio Meira

I agree Chuck and Jimmy are more similar than either of them would like to admit. Chuck is obviously not the only smart brother, and Jimmy is obviously not the only manipulative one. The tragedy in their relationships is that Chuck decided to embrace his good side without fully defining it -- so he does bad things 'for good reasons' (while accusing Jimmy of the same), but since he sees himself as the good one, the bad things he does have to be good, too ('it's not that I tried to manipulate the arbiter, I just want to defend my younger brother who, despite everything, does have a good heart').

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

All I want is for Kim to throw it back in their faces about how the standards for admission of evidence are more lenient at a Bar Censure hearing. Also, the more I see Chuck's hypocrisy, the more I despise him.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

Also, please put THE BEAR up for consideration in a poll for the next series. It's an incredible show and every time I watch it, I'm sure my blood pressure goes up.

John

I think the doctor, at the beginning of episode 3, was the doctor from Breaking Bad at Gus' facility when he was poisoned. I would recommend Fringe and The Good Place for a tv poll

Villa Lobos

For the longest time I was convinced the shoes on the power line only meant a memorial. Mostly because when I was about 9, I was visiting family in Chicago in the early nineties. I saw a teen throw a pair of shoes up there. My cousin said it was the shoes of a teen that got shot a week prior.

dys

Third The Good Place. If you guys loved Ted Lasso you will love that.

Ste Rawlings

"This hardly seems firm but fair" I mean it's almost like being "more likeable" doesn't matter at all.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Good catch on the significance of food in BrBa & BCS! Been paying attention to that more while rewatching both series here and coming up with my own connections.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Don’t you just love random memes like this, I use meme for its original purpose not just referring to silly things online. It’s even more curious now that George points out that this is not a thing in China, so I assume its a Western meme?

JoeE

Love the Kim wexler character. Reminds me of what Saul said when he met Skylar, just the right amount of dirty

Brad Lowry

Maybe someone has mentioned this, but I feel like it's important as your hatred of Chuck rises… and I KNOW you're sophisticated enough to separate the actor from the role… right? Well, before your hatred goes overboard I recommend revisiting your reaction to "This Is Spinal Tap" (and going to imDB if necessary) and realize how amazing the actor playing Chuck is. 🤓🎬

Actuarial Lurker

So we already saw Mike's back story in Season 1 Episode 5-0 of how he got revenge for Matty's Death and wound up in New Mexico. Now we see he has sniper skills and infer that he was in the US Special Forces in Vietnam as a young adult before becoming a cop- hence all his "skills" in Breaking Bad....

Actuarial Lurker

George and Simone- the Breaking Bad Flashback to the killing of Gus' lover the chemist was in the 80s, this flashback is "current" BCS timeline Don Eladio, where Mike getting Hector's ice cream trucks busted at the border make him look bad among the other cartel members which benefits Gus...the poisoning is in BB timeline a few years later then BCS.- at the time of this episode in BCS, Gus is JUST distribution in the US...he needs the lab and Walter White to take over production

Brian Sittler

Here lies David St Hubbins…and why not?

james repka

I second that and also recommend watching him in Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, and remind everyone that Spinal Tap II comes out next year!

james repka

Third the Good Place, adding that Michael McKean shows up there as well.

james repka

The concept that it is a memorial became popularized by the 1997 film "Wag the Dog," about a Hollywood producer who works with a political fixer to invent a fake war in Albania in order to distract the public from news of a Presidential scandal. They create a meme about a pair of hanging shoes honoring a fake soldier who was fake killed in the fake war. Not saying, of course, that the idea of the shoes being a memorial came from there, just that it was popularized by the movie...

gfixler

I'm down voting this post, because I'm mad that Kim didn't tell us what she's up to, and because nothing happened on Dragon Ball Z.

Sergio Meira

I second both Fringe (= The X Files dine better) and The Good Place (moral philosophy for the masses)!

Josh

Had no idea I needed a good ol’ dragon ball Z reference. Also so glad you got to finally meet the best character in the series assistant manager Lyle. Chuck is my most hated character in the series and that’s by design. I don’t even want to say this but when I was first watching this show at this point I disliked chuck and I didn’t hate him yet. Hope that’s not spoiling anything

K Murray

Really shut down Simone's alto sax joke

Jeff K.

So I'm rewatching y'all's A League of Their Own reaction and it occurs to me that the actress who plays Rebecca, Chuck's ex-wife, in BCS is Ann Cusack, who played Shirley Baker, the illiterate woman in this movie (and, of course, the sister of John and Joan).

Rob Bob

Not trying to ruin any moments but... Mike sure is lucky there was no wind when he shot that shoe lol

Guy-on-Couch

I cannot wait to see your reaction to the next episode....one of my favorite in all of BB/BCS universe

JBK405

When it comes to the actions of the prosecutor in the meeting at the end, she IS being "fair". She's not an arbitrator or a judge, she's not supposed to be impartial. She is specifically on Chuck's side in this situation, and she is on his side against Jimmy. At this point Jimmy has confessed to these crimes, so he does not even have the presumption of innocence that all accused people have until the trial is completed. By allowing Jimmy to essentially get a pass on the criminal sentencing she is being extremely generous. And since part of the reason she is giving him that pass is because his brother Chuck asked for it, expecting him to show remorse is not out of bounds. Often it is actually a required part of sentencing for the accused to publicly confess and show remorse. Plea deals have been revoked in real life if the confession wasn't satisfactory. Of course she doesn't know that this is part of Chuck's further plan. But as it is, she is pursuing her duty diligently and properly.

Justin Leone

The scene with Eladio in Sabrosito isn't quite "current". I don't think we know exactly when it took place, but it was certainly before Mike robbed Hector's first truck in Season 2, because the guy accompanying Hector is the driver that Mike stole from, who was subsequently executed at the end of Season 2.

Justin Leone

Yeah, I get the impression that they're not as familiar with Michael McKean as they should be. That said, much as I love him in everything I've seen him in, if I didn't know that David St Hubbins and Michael McKean were the same person, I probably wouldn't make the connection either.

Justin Leone

The only reason I can think of that The Good Place hasn't shown up on polls is that perhaps they've already seen it.

Justin Leone

She's not an arbitrator, though. She's a prosecutor. She is on Chuck's side by definition, and the entire purpose of that meeting isn't to settle a dispute, but to satisfy her professional desire to see that some semblance of justice is done to a confessed criminal. That said, your frustration with the situation is the response I'm sure the writers were going for. You're right that she doesn't have the full context, and doesn't realize how Chuck has manipulated the situation to make himself the victim, let alone all the history leading up to it. But since she's not a judge or arbitrator, there was never any expectation of impartiality from her.

Justin Leone

It's not present day. The guy accompanying Hector was the driver of the truck that Mike robbed, who Hector had executed at the end of Season 2. So we know explicitly that it takes place before that. Also, Juan Bolsa also has more hair in the Sabrosito flashback than he does in other episodes of BCS, so that scene probably took place a few years before the rest of BCS.

Justin Leone

Also, Juan Bolsa has significantly more hair in the Sabrosito flashback than he does in his other BCS appearances. So it's implied that this scene happened at least a few years before BCS.

neez duts

the prosecutor guy reminds me of mr bean xD
