I have to assume either George ran out of time to photoshop the thumbnail or he decided it'd be funny to post the raw photo for a change.

Amar

This movie is wild, just one huge acid trip!

Michael

Ralph Steadman’s awesome illustrations for the book were obviously a big part of influencing the production design.

Amar

Please add "Four Lions" to your comedy backlog. What a hilarious movie, people all love it but not many have seen it!

Horrible

White rabbit!

Patrick

God, I love Benicio Del Toro. Go look at some footage of him in Licence to Kill and then watch him in this and see how much a person's appearance can change in 5 years. I think he put on about 40lbs for this role. I think this is a film I stumbled across late at night channel hopping and not knowing a thing about the film. It's not something I watch too often as I really, really have to be in the mood to watch it, a little like Requiem for a Dream. uncomfortable but fascinating. I really need to read the book again.

Russell James Tiger

The writer Hunter S Thompson was given a briefcase of every drug known to man and was told to go to Vegas and write about the effects of the drugs. This movie based on his book is the result.

ShōNuff3K

Based on a true story?

Emily G

One of my favorite movies. ❤️ Hunter S Thompson was a trip. I would like to suggest you watch The Producers (2005 version) it’s a fantastic comedy which I think you will enjoy.

Emily G

Yes, based off of journalist Hunter S Thompson.

Lamont Cranston

He was sent to cover the race. He did the drugs himself.

Justin Ely

To understand this movie, look up hunter s thompson

Cinebinge

Hi Jacob, sorry to hear that! What does the error message say?

Kron0n

It's all over the place.

Joe Williams

I definitely get the sense there's a bit method acting here. You can look up an incredible photo of Johnny Depp, Hunter S. Thompson and John Cusack in a convertible with a blow-up doll. All look completely out of it.

Elroy

Y’all need to add the Karate Kid part 2 to a poll pls 🙏

Brian Sittler

Without knowing the context about Hunter & the book it’s such a bewildering watch but still entertaining. That was me too back when it came out. But after a few watches & getting some context of just what the hell was happening, it finally clicked for me & now it’s one of my favorites.

Max Carter

This isn't really a movie to be understood or followed in a conventional sense. It really is about just going along for the very wild ride. I personally love it but appreciate it's not for everyone. I highly suggest people look up real footage of Hunter S Thompson, he really was a fascinating character and brilliant writer and Depp nailed him in many ways

Trevor Rotan

“There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” It’s Hunter S. Thompson, while working as a reporter he would go on benders like this and write mostly true books about it. Yes, his friend and lawyer was there in the beginning.

Brian Sittler

You took too much, man. You took too much, too much….

All Terrry Gilliams' movies are odd. But with drugs it just goes on another level. From his other works can recommend: Brazil - Dystopian Sci-Fi The Fisher King - Dark comedy 12 Monkeys - Sci-Fi thriller other his movies: The Brothers Grimm - not a great movie but quite disturbing in places Tideland - just weird The Zero Theorem - dystopian sci-fi but more modern

Crystal

more Terry Gilliam please, especially the excellent "The Fisher King". Jeff Bridges & Robin Williams are both hilarious & heartbreaking in it, and the visuals are stunning!

Kurt Hockenbury

Maybe I'm old, but I prefer the 1967 version of The Producers

Barstoolteacher

Bill Murray also plays Hunter S Thompson in a movie called Where the Buffalo roam.

Be Human

Natural Born Killers would be another good film to add to the list.

Rocky Reyes

I hope you guys watch cobra Kai as the next long series

Darren

You guys need to watch Brother bear (2003) it’s such a wholesome movie

JOEDATOR

Oh good heavens yes, the original The Producers is far, far superior

JOEDATOR

It’s a surprisingly minimalist thumbnail for such a visually packed movie, but it captures one the moments that Simone reacted to the strongest.

DomToretto

You guys should watch 7 psychopaths.

Mike FromOz

Having watched both, I really do feel the newer version is the better one. The fact it was made into a musical about making a musical makes it fit together so damn well. And it has some absolute banger songs. Oh, and Uma Thurman.

Elroy

Saw a comment regarding the Brother Bear movie and I can’t support it enough such an underrated movie

BzzBzzBzzBzzBzz

This was a literary masterpiece amongst hard-core druggies that should never have been filmed. On film it just looks depraved and disgusting.

Peter Hudson

The classic anti-drug propoganda film is called "Reefer Madness", you can find it on Youtube. It's from the 30's I think

Charles Gaba

Read Doonesbury…Uncle Duke was based on Hunter S. Thompson.

Mike FromOz

A lot of people might think this is over the top, but I think that it quickly encapsulates just how chaotic and strange Thompson must have looked like to others, especially from his writing. It's good because it makes him look strange in a place which is already weird enough (Las Vegas). It also shows that he made bad decisions when high as hell, which is something that affected his writing down the track. He was hired to go write about the Ali vs Foreman heavyweight boxing match, but thought it was a foregone conclusion, with Foreman destined to beat the absolute hell out of Ali (referenced in the movie where a sports journalist says to him at the Mint 400 - "Ali beaten by a human hamburger"). So he stayed at his hotel drinking and doing drugs, as he had done on many other writing assignments. He thought it would play out much like how the rest of the assignments had, and that he would instead just write up something around the cultural impact or so, while also getting high and drunk on the company dime. What actually happened was Ali, against the odds, beat Foreman in one of the most amazing boxing wins ever. The next day, when Thompson found out about this after waking up from his stupor, he knew he had blown it, and he had let things go too far. His life was kind of down hill from there. I think this movie is a good encapsulation of that. The desire to chase the next high ends up not only screwing himself over, but also those around him. I knew going into this movie both of you would be absolutely perplexed by what was happening, but you had the right reaction. The combination of shock, horror and laughter shows you both really did get the movie. A lot of people didn't, and the film was a bomb at the box office. Sad, because it's one of the most out there films ever made.

LighthouseGuy

In a similar strain, (I have said this before but Im sorry b To be a little incessant cunt, but sexy beast and especially 44 inch chest), captures the feeling of british culture passing from one generation to the next couldnt be captured quite as accurately as in those films.

CT

Sexy Beast is fantastic!

probablyKoi

Hunter S Thompson and Johnny Depp actually became great friends and got up to a whole bunch of misadventures themselves. So much so that when Hunter eventually shot himself, Johnny Depp paid for his funeral including spending $3Million sending him out the way he said he always wanted... to have his ashes shot out of a cannon. The cannon was a giant, giant fist with two thumbs. Fireworks went off after they fired it and everybody got shitfaced. Hunter even explained in a video you can find on YouTube how it was all going to go down before he died. Maybe the most bat shit send-off to any human being in history.

Ashley Minor

If you want more Terry Gilliam weirdness Brazil is a personal favorite of mine and Time Bandits shows what if this weirdo made a kid's movie

KaffeeKind

Wait, is there no uncut version?

Kenneth thomas

Yeah these are real people, Hunter Thompson was a very popular bizarre journalist that wrote a book about these vegas trips, and his time being journalist and taking every drug under the sun. The book is very chaotic, this movie captures its vibe eerily well

Jeffrey Howe

IIRC, Depp said he based much of Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards. So, not far off.

HeyHeyJK

S&G would love "Brazil" so much, but some of Terry's later more mainstream films were also great, especially "The Fisher King" with Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges, and "12 Monkeys" with Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis.

HeyHeyJK

I was working on a movie in LA years ago and the Producer I worked for ran into a Locations Manager who was shooting 'Fear & Loathing' right next door at the former Ambassador Hotel (infamous for being the location where Robert Kennedy was assassinated). My producer had worked as a PA on 'Fisher King' and so we got to go over and they had set up the basement (the hotel was no longer open to the public at this point) for the bar scene with the lizard people. I didn' t know the book and was wandering around marveling at the set design and lizard costumes and walked by this guy with a bucket hat and hawaiian shirt quietly pacing and reading some script pages and exchanged a quiet smile with him as we passed. Literally had no idea it was Johnny Depp until way later. Okay, that's the end of that story.

Bertrand Belisle

We need more Gilliam! So you could watch The Fisher King and Brazil, but the best one to watch is 12 monkeys

Gerald Walker

Its so weird to see the icons of your youth like Hunter S Thompson fade into obscurity as time passes

Lex Kuzma

If you want a really weird film that feels like a drug trip, check out The Holy Mountain by Jodorowski. It's not popular enough to justify a reaction video, but you should check it out on your own time. It's very worth it.

HeyHeyJK

I vote for all three!

LazyBoy Stays Up Late Watchin Video Tapes

Kids these days, just don't know how to party. Pple scratching their head tying to figure it out. Those that have been so deranged by this kind of indulging know the horror, depravity, and, demoralization that accompanies a run such as this.
