Fring's Doctor is also the voice actor for vander in arcane!

8bitAndy

Did someone say MacGyver? Yes please! Next show reaction confirmed!

mojo shivers

MacGyver was a former operative for an unnamed intelligence agency, but probably the CIA. But for most of the show he works as a troubleshooter and agent for the fictional Phoenix Foundation, a private, government-backed intelligence agency disguised as a think tank, where his friend Pete from his former agency works as his boss. His big thing was never using guns so that’s why he always had to figure out a mechanical, physics, or chemistry based solution to the jams he finds himself in as his degrees and background were always going into a science-based career. He’s basically the answer to the question if Bill Nye was asked to be a spy and he agreed under the condition he didn’t have to kill anyone.

Watching along and seeing George say “look at that ass” and Simone’s silent facial expression, George I gotta ask: when you’re editing these, since you can’t see each other, do you ever just burst out laughing when you see Simone’s non-verbal reactions?

8bitAndy

2:01:18 Simone's face when George says "stiffy" lol

Actuarial Lurker

Everyone had an off-ramp- Mike could have told Gus no, Kim could have agreed with Schweikert that she had a conflict, Jimmy could have joined HHM as a partner- none of them did...

SuPaTiLt

that is totally John Dimaggio! I must of missed him the first time I saw this.

Actuarial Lurker

George- that's Spanish for "Dedicated to Max"- referring to the memorial fountain in Gus' dead partner Max's honor

Actuarial Lurker

the last name of Gus' doctor is ALSO Goodman

Vengeance

Well Jimmy was only legitimately offered a position at HMM after Chuck died. But he had exit ramps before then.

TGrimace

This is the part in the series where you start to remember who Saul really is. It's been many seasons of Jimmy being treated badly, and him often reacting badly, but he was always so likable that it seemed not too bad. But now, flashes of Breaking Bad where Saul suggested murdering people, encouraged drug manufacturing, took bribes, knew hitman. Those start to come back to mind........

Adam Vialpando

Funny enough the investigator they used for Kevin was supposed to be Bill Burr. Unfortunately he had a scheduling conflict so they brought back Steven Ogg's character.

Jeffrey Conway

What is really funny is the credit for the actor that played foreman was on the screen when you were wondering if it was that actor.

Your ability to guess what a movie/episode is about based on the title alone is already legendary, but "who's Goodman?" is a new peak

Helly R

Ep 6-9 here especially is a killer run

HansD

"I need that to end." Oh George, you sweet summer child.

Philipp Roensch

Blanking on Max, understandable, but on Goodman for a minute? :D You are correct, Jimmy does this to not be a sucker, but can make others that. He does not even care who at this point, he just needs to come out on top. If you compare Jimmy's excuses with Walt, they sound all too familiar. Episode 5 really a rollercoaster of twists. Recurring character as well: Steve Ogg, he was in competition with Mike Season 1, back with cobbler guy.

Thall

What's the right word then?

Helly R

Jimmy and Kim genuinely love each other but there's a level where it's toxic and dysfunctional. The Kim flashback is designed to put the seed of what happens at the end of 506. Toxic relationships work on this push/pull of breaking trust/manipulation and then overcompensating in response. So yes, the idea of getting married is partly a legal thing, but emotionally it's also Kim compensating for the recent betrayal.

Mister X is Steven Ogg, Trevor from GTA 5

2026-09-05 05:00 George, Jimmy was removing the radioactive part from the smoke detectors before he ground it up to sprinkle on the ground: “One type, ionization smoke detectors, use a small radioactive source as a key component for detection of smoke particles. The radionuclide used in ionization smoke detectors is americium-241 (Am-241), which is bonded to a metallic foil and sealed within a small chamber. As long as you use the smoke detector as directed and do not open it, it poses no radiation health risk. Photoelectric smoke detectors use a light and sensor to detect smoke and do not contain radioactive material. Many smoke detectors may use both ionization and photoelectric features to achieve maximum detection.” https://osrp.lanl.gov/Documents/Smoke%20Detector%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf

The most unbelievable part about those two episodes is Mike and the phonecharger. Phones back then? NO WAY the charger fits. EVERY version and every iteration had its own damn connector!

Max Hassam

I can be the Max you know :) Max & Gus were both from Chile. I'm not sure exactly what the significance of this specific village is to Gus but it's an interesting part to his character that he has this serenity place for memorialising. I think it's a key difference between him & the Salamancas. His life is the mission, revenge. Their life is the cartel way. That's why Gus is much tidier than them in the execution of his work and doesn't cause the collateral that they do. I think a couple of Jimmy's lines sum up his motivation "but the play is so beautiful!" and "god i'm good" he's in it for the thrill of the scam. Also, whilst Jimmy's switcheroo was a stab in the back for Kim, the actual plan itself (all the defamation vids etc) was hers, and she opted out of it not for moral grounds, but so as to not arouse further suspicion. I agree with your interpretation of the Howard stuff. Jimmy tried offloading the guilt to Howard, destroying him in the process. It didn't really work and deep down Jimmy is still struggling with it and yet here is Howard now all namaste... and yeah I think he hates him for it. Like with Walt, gotta remember that even though he's far more likeable this time, Jimmy isn't a good person. He's a conman at heart who is emotionally damaged with a fire under his belly. That's a dangerous mix. A chimp with a machine gun, one might say... A few cameos here. Mr X is Steven Ogg's character we saw in S1E9 as Simone pointed out. Gus' Dr was in that episode too. We also got Det. Tim Roberts who shows a few times in BB. He's the one that gives Hank Gale's lab notes!

Actuarial Lurker

Even some watches with glowing minute and hou hands are pinted with radioactive paint....

Maarten Martens

Rhea Seehorn is really killing it in these episodes. Simone says it well that you can't know what Kim is thinking, and that last scene really showed that. I was for sure thinking this was gonna be it, and then she hit us with the marry bombshell. I really like the aftertalk, you guys are pointing out a lot of relevant things. Can't wait for the next ones.

Michael Haug

Love when Simone breaks out her Keanu Reeves as Ted "Whooooooooaaaa

Mitchell Bowker

Gus would have made sure the correct phone charger was available in the house for Mike.

Vengeance

From what I’ve heard, Bill Burr was supposed to be in episode 5, but he had scheduling conflicts so they got Steven Ogg for the role.

Rob Bob

Fuck, throw 10 in there as well. This streak of 5 episodes is peak television!

Ste Rawlings

Yeah I mean it's almost like Jimmy has been doing self satisfied, immoral and unethical shit since the start of the show and acting like he was doing it for other people in order to make himself feel superior.

Ste Rawlings

Fair play for leaving the Goodman stuff in.

Vengeance

It’s a damn shame she never won an Emmy for her portrayal of Kim.

Silver Linings Starman

Mr. Acker has lived there for 30 years, which would place his year of purchase in the early 1970s. The average house cost in Albuquerque in the 1970s was $20,000 to $30,000. He bought the house but not the land, so he would have paid much less. He probably paid about $18,000 for the house.

REDR58

The “don’t change horses in midstream” thing is a proverb popularized by Abraham Lincoln the presidential election that was happening during the US Civil War. It was apparently based on a joke from a few decades earlier: https://grammarist.com/phrase/dont-change-horses-in-midstream/ The car young Kim’s mother was driving is an AMC Eagle. My grandfather had one just like it and I’d recognize it anywhere. The origins of the phrase “Don’t drink and drive” in the US seems a bit hard to pin down, but laws against driving while drunk have been around in some states since the early 1900s. I remember hearing the phrase a lot growing up in the 1980s. I’ve never heard “dickering around” and we just say “dick around” but it seems to be a regional or somewhat outdated phrase?

SpankTheMonk

I hope they thought of the voice acting scene because of John “Bender” DiMaggio. Actually I think Jimmy really means to not do it. He only brought it up because of their relationship and comfort at this point. Any other time I would be with George though. And then In the next episode Jimmy takes it to far ☹️. Also the lighter skin actors, older specifically the high altitude southern region is harsh on them I think that didn’t help the illusion of their being younger versions. Leading the witness is what Mike was doing.

MarisoL

Kim season 2 to Jimmy: "Why would you risk everything for some pro-bono case!!" Also I saw someone describe Gus as Luxury Crime

2026-09-05 05:00 Jimmy doesn’t know how to deal with his repressed emotions about his brother so he is taking it out on Howard as a totem to that frustration. At least that is my take. Also his taking it to far on Mesa actually in a terrible harsh way helps Kim, like his brother said- he does good things, sometimes noble things in the worst way. As Simone was nailing it on why Jimmy pulled the farce in my opinion.

Saul's issue with Howard is still pure resentment I believe.Howard got to work with Chuck as lawyers and also got to work with Kim,both of which Jimmy desperately wanted to do,as for what he did to Kevin he said it in the show,he set up this beautiful con on Kevin and he just couldn't stop himself before the payoff

BangDroid

When in Breaking Bad was it revealed that Gus was gay? Because to me that revelation is in BCS coming up. I've been a fan of BB since it's original airing and in no way was it ever obvious to me that Gus was gay, and out of all the thousands of conversations I've had with people over the years until BCS, no one ever mentioned or even hinted at Gus and Max being lovers.

Actuarial Lurker

I view it as Jimmy seeing Wachtell as similar to Chuck- stomping on a little guy even if one is legally in the right but morally not so much- he is a self-appointed avenger

Actuarial Lurker

Gus would have built a secret facility to create chargers if it furthered his ambitions!

Helly R

In Hermanos in season 4 BB Hector says "they like what they see" when he was pissing in the pool. It's just a hint and not confirmed in BB, but it's there, and the theory that Gus was gay was definitely discussed at the time. Hector then derisively called them "butt brothers" in BCS S4E3 which pretty much confirms it.

BangDroid

I'm aware of the remark Hector made, but never viewed it as a confirmation that Gus was gay, more that Hector was using the gay inference as an insult, as many toxic males do.

Dennis Vollmer

Drunk driving laws started to be a thing (state by state) as soon as cars became a thing, but it wasn't really enforced until the 80's and the whole mothers against drunk driving movement. Before then it was treated a lot like not wearing seatbelt, something the cops would use if they wanted to pull you over. Which is why former president George W Bush getting arrested for DUI back in 1976 is kinda like wow.... you know how drunk you had to be to actually get arrested for drunk driving back in the 70's

RabidMango

I remember one specific official podcast with Vince Gilligan, other writers, editor, etc. The panel started talking about how they thought Gus was gay and Vince sorta said, "Well, we don't really know that for sure." So I don't think he was interested in Gus' sexuality in the story of Breaking Bad.

Magnus Karlsson

The point with the scene in the beginning, with Kim and her mother, was to show that the trauma bonding with her mother is redoubled in her relationship with Jimmy, such that the worse Jimmy behaves, the more she is drawn in and addicted to the drama and to feeling needed, because she then have to be the problem solver like she was for her mother; but his behavior also gives her an excuse to let herself go and break character and be naughty in a way that she could never do in her childhood since she needed to be the parent. So he brings out the worst in her by tapping into several different complexes formed through her traumatic childhood.

james repka

That's right! Dr Barry Goodman, M.D.

neez duts

gus is so hard to get a read on. on one hand he's a ruthless killer who doesnt not take lightly to slip ups but on the other hand he really takes care of his employees, legitimate or shady ones.

Klaven

Jimmy is simply taking it to far with Howard.

Redrum Sacrament

Howard is a victim of the McGill brothers. He had to put up with how Chuck was behaving at the end of season 3 and when Howard punished Kim for what Jimmy did, Chuck tells Howard to bring Kim back up from that basement room with all the files. And now he has to deal with Jimmy. What did Howard do wrong? Gustavo Fring is the way he is because of Hector Salamanca and Don Eladio. Max was Gus's partner who was shot by the pool by Hector in Breaking Bad. Gus's whole life was anger, sadness, and revenge for his partner Max. That's all that was left for him. I feel he may have learned different ways to suppress his emotions around people in public and his men working for him. Eladio and The Salamancas made Gustavo Fring into what he is.

james repka

Often the Better Call Saul writers would come into work having just watched a scene from BB with an idea of how to turn it into a foreshadowing event for the show. I used to listen to the BCS official podcast every week, and Gilligan often said he was leery about going to that hole too often. Nacho was an important character from the beginning that fans recognized as possibly being the source for Ignacio. Gilligan (perhaps being falsely modest) has maintained that he was opposed to introducing a Lalo character to fill in that other spot (in the early season none of the creators had the slightest inkling where the story would go by this point). Gould and the other writers lobbied pretty hard, and when they needed a villain at the end to match up against Gus, Gilligan relented and they found Tony Dalton to play Lalo. What a great character! A Salamanca with the reckless violent tendencies of Hector and Tuco and the Cousins, but with the charm and vindictiveness to take on Gus.

LazyBoy Stays Up Late Watchin Video Tapes

Jimmy is offended by Howard trying to make up with him. Every time Howard contacts him, he retaliates. If Howard stops, Jimmy will stop. Jimmy will not tell him to stop, Howard must come to this realization on his own.
