Mike Medaugh

James Morgan McGill. Oh I forgot they said that lol. From now on the episodes are just straight gas. You should remember one of his wives anyway, it's why he did the Chicago Sun Roof

Hernani

What movie are you talking about ?

Guillaume Huet_rennibou

@Hernani, My bad, I mixed up with a comment on their Bsky account. Therefore I removed my comment. Sowy^^

ShōNuff3K

700 stacks of $10,000 (100s) equals 7,000,000 Which would weigh 70kg or 154 lbs.

cincassette

The song in episode 8 is "I Got The..." by Labi Siffre. It was sampled by Eminem in "My Name Is".

Mike Medaugh

Oh yeah there will be a need for an explanation. I can't wait for you two to see it.

ShōNuff3K

The song was a mix from a 1975 song by Labi Siffre 'I Got The', it was mixed with 'My Name is..' by Eminem. The spider they walk past in the desert is most likely a Wolf spider.

Jeff K.

After Bagman, feels like a good time to once again suggest watching Midnight Run, with Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. Vince Gilligan has pointed to that movie as the inspiration for the dynamic between Jimmy and Mike, and Bagman is in some ways an homage to that movie.

Stugotz

"Why would you ever need that much money" Uh, you're looking at a reason right there dude. You think the cartel only uses their money to buy cars and houses?

Actuarial Lurker

Better Call Saul should be called the Butterfly Effect- Jimmy does a sunroof, gets him arrested, needs Chuck to get him out, moves to New Mexico, tries to scam Kettlemens and falls into Tuco and Nacho world, tampers with an address, gets suspended, out of spite tells insurer about Chuck's meltdown, Chuck self-terminates, now he is bagman for the Cartel....

Actuarial Lurker

no- actually NOBODY needs that much money, Walter White could have stopped and be set for life, Saul could have stayed at Davis and Main and waited for his share of the Sandpiper payout, Mike could have stopped after stealing $250K from Hector's truck and laundering it with Gus, and Gus and the cartel could have stopped when they had a $1B dollars. Their Male insecurity, greed, desire for revenge and obsessions make them not know when enough is enough

Stugotz

their male insecurity? 😂 Kinda naive aren't you?

Actuarial Lurker

Skyler told Walter that she tried weighing his cash in the storage locker and that 1 US bill of any denomination weighs 1 gram. These guys all deal in $20s and $100s lets assume 50/50 split by VALUE. You would need 50 x $100 and 250 x $20 for $10,000. So that is 300 bills weighing 300 grams. Multiply by 100 and $1M weighs 30kg and $7M weighs 210kg...that doesn't work. Instead assume ALL $100s. 100 x $100 is 100 grams for $10K and 10kg for $1M and 70kg for $7M. Two duffel bags could each hold 35kg = 77 pounds and that is why he is dragging them....although that is still damn heavy in that heat...

Vengeance

You missed the parts where Jimmy cleaned his act up in NM, excelled at a job Chuck got him, went to law school in secret, passed the bar in secret and without help, and then got denied advancement by his brother. Then he tried to scam the Kettlemans.

Vengeance

What about Lydia? Did she need the money she was getting kicked back by Gus for helping? Or should she had checked her female insecurity at the door and just stayed within the law at Madrigal?

NotlobParrot

This ^. Midnight Run is soooo good

Actuarial Lurker

Jimmy is James M McGill that is why he did the JMM billboard stunt in Season 1

Actuarial Lurker

Middle names are frequently based on a relative of the same gender. If you are Catholic and get confirmed at age 13 (or as an adult) you would ALSO pick a religious middle name that would not be on your birth certificate or legal documents but would be on religious documents- these would be disciples, saints, other Bible names etc like Michael, Joseph, Mary, Peter, Francis etc

Actuarial Lurker

I know that, but its the BAD decisions made while thinking of SHORT term goals not the GOOD decision that take a lot of effort that can doom you. A guy who decides to drive home drunk and runs over someone, being in the wrong place at the wrong time BECAUSE of ANOTHER prior decision that landed you in a place with few options...

Actuarial Lurker

George- is the Pollos job the "side hustle" or the drug empire

Actuarial Lurker

The hotel scene after the Madrigal status meeting shows that the German executive was involved in Chilean dictator stuff in the 1980s- remember Eladio tells Gus after Hector kills Max- we KNOW who you are and you aren't in Chile any more- implying that Pinochet had Gus' back but now there is open season

Actuarial Lurker

in a major plot twist, the cousins decide to hire Nacho's Dad to replace the interiors of blood drenched cars instead of cleaning them over and over and everyone lives happily ever after

Actuarial Lurker

Jimmy met the Twins on the US side of the border- so no customs. They search anyone and seize their money if one has $10K or more in cash\

Actuarial Lurker

Simone and George- remember, MIke was a US Marines sniper in Viet Nam- that's why he was telling the arms dealer guy that the rifles warped in the jungles. Great reveal. So it WAS a plain double cross by the guy at the compound trying to get some other crew to steal the money. One would guess they followed the Twins- didn't rob them due to their reputation and waited for Jimmy to get the cash to act

neez duts

yeah we do know about sauls 2 marriages - after skyler Fs T xD saul tries to comfort(???) walt by explaining that he caught his second wife cheating with someone (i forget who)

mpd

Usually when George moves his desk we get to go along for the ride (weeeeee!), but this time it was edited out :(

Inkpendude

It sounds like soundtrack from Bully (ps2 game)

Ste Rawlings

I'd like to propose Reacty McReactFace as a middle name for George.

The boy who cried WTF

It's certainly not a Wolf Spider (family Lycosidae). It's a mygalomorph species, most likey family Theraphosidae (but this family has been split up in recent years, so it could be one of the smaller related families). It likely is one of the typical pet species that can be handled easily on a set. TMI?

Adam Vialpando

We know Jimmy was married at least once before because of how he got to New Mexico in the first place. Remember the 'Chicago Sunroof'? The guy who owed Jimmy money and slept with his wife?

DCray

The chicken was (mostly) frozen when it slid into the hot oil. I truly hope that y'all both know you can't put frozen meat in hot oil without risking a massive fireball! It wasn't just going to "become fried chicken" haha

Thall

I don't think its spoilery to say, but now that you know Lalo and Ignazio, Walt and Jesse meeting Saul makes way more sense! He was talking about them back then

Shawnie

The song Simone was asking about the sample “My Name Is” by Eminem.

Thomas Hilbert

That's what I thought at first. But why do we have yellow tint this side of the border?

Michael L.

I don't think Jimmy asking for the money was purely being greedy - greed's got a part to do with it, for sure, but I think a big part is also around what you were talking about with his relationship with Howard. Jimmy sees himself as having been under the boot his whole life and always treated as someone who'll never amount to anything, so doing these things isn't just for greed, or just for the self-satisfaction of it, it's to prove to both himself and the world that he's somebody who's skilled and clever and worth it, and he should be acknowledged like so.

Vengeance

Except Jimmy wasn’t showing any signs of returning to how he was in Cicero. Sure, maybe Chuck lets him into HHM and he goes back to cutting corners and doing bad things. But maybe he doesn’t, maybe he really has changed. What we do know is that Chuck cut him down before he could even start. The butterfly effect for Jimmy ended… And then Chuck started it back up again. His choices, his consequences, but not all his fault.

Max Hassam

One thing perhaps is worth realising with this show is that the intros aren't necessarily at the chronological beginning of the events in the episode :P

Angzarr

I would be totally down for an Alien Nation series reaction! An under-appreciated show.

Angzarr

"Homer J. Simpson. The J stands for Jay." But I think that would be a wasted opportunity. Hear me out George, if you're going to pick one, imagine being able to honestly say that "Danger is my middle name!"

Silver Linings Starman

I just noticed that the prosecuting attorney in Lalo's arbitration was the woman from the pilot of "The Haunting of Hill House". The one who gives the amazing monologue about the death and haunting of her husband, who died in a car crash. Also, George is right about the water, I saw it on "QI". It's better to drink until you're not thirsty. I can't remember why, but you will stay hydrated longer.

Jesse Coombs

Not sure if I've recommended it before, but I would love it if you would react to "Do The Right Thing". I bring it up because not only is it probably Spike Lee's best movie, it's also in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. Why am I bringing it up now? Because it's one of Giancarlo Esposito's (Gus Fring) earliest roles, and he's almost unrecognizable in it. I don't want to spoil it, but it has thematic similarities to "Rear Window" and "The Wire."

Brian Sittler

Great tidbit & I love that movie.

Brian Sittler

Crazy timing for Jimmy to see Howard when he’s smack dab in the middle of a crisis of conscious over the victims family & being a friend to the cartel against his true will. Jimmy’s world is spinning out of his control, so when Howard shows up, it’s like Jimmy’s desperate to assert whatever control he can to make himself feel better. But of course he takes it too far & unleashes all his insecurity, bitterness, jealousy, etc. SO much therapy needed! Pretty sad stuff.

Angzarr

As far as I understand, it's also a bad idea to drink urine. But, maybe it is more realistic that Mike has somewhat outdated information about that kind of thing? Mike is still the Ron Jeremy of competence porn.

Silver Linings Starman

I believe you're correct about that. I was speaking to the theory that if you drink your water liberally, all at once, you will stay hydrated longer than if you were to ration it. "QI is a show that extensively researches debunking popular, misinformed beliefs—things most of us believe because common sense would suggest, or simply wrong information shared through generations. Even though it's a British comedy panel show, they do due diligence to ensure they have the most recent scientific and historical information. I believe George has a "QI" tattoo on his arm, so it's possible he saw the same episode I did.

droodly

The clear middle name winner for George is "eee- porgie-puddin-n-pie.

DinChild

Some of your predictions are interesting :-)

MacGuffinStuff

Mike was making a transpiration pit, I'm sure it has other names. It's better with clear plastic because what you want is a greenhouse effect that dries the plants and the moisture condenses on the plastic, you put a rock or something in the middle of the plastic to give a cone shape so the moisture drops into the container in the middle. I tried this when I was in the Army, at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, 115°+ heat (46° ish?), it's better than nothing, but after half a day I got maybe a cup of warm brownish water (probably from the soil?) with an herbal taste, didn't get sick or anything though. Yeah you wanna drink it sooner than later, especially piss. Piss is basically sterile when it first comes out but once it hits oxygen it starts to turn to ammonia, so it gets more toxic if you wait. I've heard it tastes kind of like warm, very flat soda, somehow that description makes it sound even worse. Kim, honestly just with them getting married made me worry for her, she's immediately leverage against Jimmy. George you owe it to yourself to give yourself an absolutely insane middle name. Or not, but even though I like my middle name it would be cool if we had a tradition of picking our own middle names when he become adults, or something like that. I think I would be Jose Madmardigan, or Jose Dances With Annoyed Dogs.

MacGuffinStuff

Edit: Iooked up transpiration pit, that's what I heard it called, but that's apparently something to do with sewage. Doesn't surprise me, our NCOs were all pranksters, but whatever the thing is called, it does work, just not very fast.

Helly R

I believe it is ok to drink it in the short term as you will get dehydration benefit *if* it's more clear. If it's too yellow there's too much Urea/salt and it will be a diruetic and dehydrate you further.

Helly R

The fact they (successfully!) turned a throaway line with random names into a whole show is crazy.

Adam

It was with his step dad 😂

neez duts

i thought so! i didnt write it in case i was wrong LOL

Vengeance

See it every year on the news at Thanksgiving when some sets their backyard or kitchen on fire.

Brad Lowry

Famously, Harry Truman is the only US President, I believe, that did't have a middle name. He is known as "Harry S. Truman" making people think that there must be a middle name starting with "S". However, it is considered more proper to call him "Harry S Truman" because his middle name, fully spelled out, is "S". Now people quibble as to whether "S" *is* a middle name or whether Truman didn't *have* a middle name, but rather had a "middle letter"... I'm sure there might be some official designation that someone can help with, but the point remains that Simone is very correct in that the ins and outs of having Middle Name isn't very "set in stone" if one of our Presidents has such a bizarre outlier. (Also, do remember the "Bilboard Incident" where Jimmy used JMM and was forced to stop doing so because it was so close to HHM. I think his middle name was "Michael" in that episode.)

Bill Campbell

We always called it a solar still

Justin Leone

Of course Kim doesn't have a middle name. Due to the blonde hair, she is often mistaken for white, but Kim is actually Korean.

Justin Leone

Mike: "And if I live or if I die, it really doesn't make a difference to me as long as they have what they need. So when it's my time to go, I will go knowing I did everything I could for them. Now, you ask me how I keep going? That's how" ::Jimmy purrs defiantly::

MacGuffinStuff

There it is, I couldn't remember the other name I heard, thanks

MacGuffinStuff

I was never a boy scout but I used to have a copy of the manual, someone told me it was a great book for basic survival stuff, got a lot out of it, good stuff.

Randell Paszt

grease+alot of water(frozen chicken)=Flame on

Ren

because this is actually just a meme to try to criticize "american bigotry". the yellow tint was always about more desert enviroments and not just because its mexico. there are some memes mocking that with pictures of walt with yellow tint, but walt never went to mexico during the show.

Ren

Guys, they don't need to cross the border, they never left the US. Lalo said that Jimmy would pick the money with cousins BY the border.

mky

When Jimmy first said he's didn't want to be the bagman, and the way Lalo just gave in and said "okay"...there's no way he would have let Jimmy live. Jimmy's only useful to Lalo if he does exactly what he wants him to do. My opinion, anyway.
