Cinebinge

yep, apparently Patreon changed the issuing dates for creators and just didnt tell anyone. no email, nothing. so a lot of creators at once were wondering what happened.

Cinebinge

going with release order, so first 4 movies, then TNG.

CT

If I'm remembering correctly, the way holodecks work is by using force fields with visuals mapped onto the surface of the force field. Anything you touch or any surface you walk on is an ever-changing force field. Sometimes it's incorrectly depicted as everything being real; but that's more of a limitation of the budget, needs of the story, or a writer's misunderstanding of how it's supposed to work.

Monica Alarcon

I'm all for release order but with the movies it's better to watch I to VI. Ii to VI are more or less one continuous story and they close the Original series era. In universe it makes no sense watching the first four then skipping 70 years to TNG then going back 70 years for the other two. Consider the TOS movies a one season please. It makes more sense.

Lintrinsic

You're already seen Orions, they're the green women and as they mentioned in this episode one was altered to look Andorian in journey to Babel. Why they pronounce it weird in this episode is a mystery.

Monica Alarcon

Yes. Star Trek VI specially sets up an alliance Wich is very important in TNG...

Jeb Manning

The crazy thing is the Orions have already appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series. It was in the episodes The Menagerie and Whom Gods Destroy. Also, George just saw an Orion woman in the animated series episode The Time Trap. Basically they're the race of green-skinned humanoids who are most famous for their beautiful green-skinned women.

I am more in favor of release order. It gets us to TNG earlier and then gets us a throwback to TOS later on (when we miss the TOS crew a little!). Plus TNG’s production definitely influences VI, which will be hard to pick out if they watch VI first. I think it makes sense to see it as audiences saw it; they knew the alliance was coming, they just didn’t know how. It’s almost like a prequel!

Ginger

This is indeed the first ever appearance of the Holodeck (although it wasn't called that yet) in Star Trek. Reminds me of how the first ever appearance of Boba Fett was during the animated sequence of the Star Wars Holiday Special :D

StonyD

Patiently waiting for the movies....

StonyD

Has there ever been a Cinebinge origin episode? Is there lore for George and Simone's friendship or is this just a business arrangement? Would I be able to see this info at a higher Patreon level lol?

robodong

i know youre kinda joking but theyve actually answered the "how we met" question multiple times in their Q&A/AMAs done on Patreon

robodong

they said in another comment earlier its release order.

Kurt Hockenbury

Orions, as noted are usually green -- these blue "Or-ee-ons" were finally re-introduced in season 5 of Lower Decks. "BEM" is an old SF term for "Bug Eyed Monster", the stereotypical alien from pulp SF and shlocky movies.

Kurt Hockenbury

When you get to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, watch the Director's cut.

StonyD

Oh cool! I'll look it up (I'm still relatively new here lol) Thanks!

The Real Andrew Kim

I shouting at the screen so many times that they have already seen Orions before....

MacGuffinStuff

I just have to tell you guys, respect for sticking with this Star Trek Odin's Day (that's what I call Wednesday because why not?), but I think and hope it will pay off as you get into the movies and other series. And even though I am an unrepentant Star Wars fan, you got my loyalty 🤓 I just mention Star Wars because when George said he'd like a crossover, Simone had a look lol. I don't have to choose between them and won't, also, I think Battlestar Galactica is a much more likely crossover with Star Wars. Shit, now that I think of it, it would also be a great crossover with Star Trek. I wonder if they've ever heard of the that old practical joke of greasing up things like binoculars and microscopes, like in Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and The Three Stooges. When it cut to Spock looking in that device, I knew what was going to happen immediately, but now that I think about it, I haven't seen that joke anywhere since probably the 80s. I think it came from a time when people used shoe polish, and just had it laying around.

gfixler

They sound like a bunch of Bems!

gfixler

The 5th movie came out during season 2 of TNG, and the 6th movie came out during season 5. They could do the first 4 movies, then TOS season 1, then movie 5, then seasons 2 through 4, then movie 6.

gfixler

I think it was or-yun sabo-taaaj!

Lintrinsic

I disagree, release order is better. It's how the original audience experienced it and the last couple of TOS movies give an injection of nostalgia and show how far the franchise has come at just the right time IMO. But it's not really a big deal either way. It's more important with the TNG movies as they fit around the later shows and there's stuff that's assumed you know and spoilers if you watch out of order.

Vellu

Simulating the original consumer experience is the only reason to view in release order, story-wise it makes no sense. I'm for wrapping up the TOS era with the six movies and then moving to TNG.

Lintrinsic

The original Battlestar Galactica (much as I enjoyed it) was to Star Wars what the Monkees were to the Beatles. It was an (albeit great) knock-off for TV. Although with hindsight having rewatched recently, I didn't realise how sexist a lot of it seems to me now.

dc

It's a nebula in the opening credits, George, gosh! Wasn't that obvious? /s

dc

Lt. Arex, who's the alien navigator on the bridge, is voiced by James Doohan, who plays Scotty. The next time you see Lt. Arex speak, I want you to imagine Scotty making that voice. 🤣

Here's the listing of Star Trek in broadcast order (though it only covers up until the 2009 movie): https://startreklist.blogspot.com/2011/04/list-of-all-star-trek-episodes-sorted_05.html Once you get into Season 6 of TNG, if you're continuing in broadcast order, you'll have to start interleaving TNG and DS9. I don't know if you'll bother with the hassle of doing that—but if I remember correctly, there's at least a few "crossover" events in one show that affect the other, so maybe it'll be worth it?

Bandaloop

It's been said Romulans claim all in their field of vision. That's why they picked a fight with the Enterprise.

Bandaloop

As the scriptwriter David Gerrold has said in unrelated works, Bem = Bug Eyed Monster.

I remember the megaphone trick in Police Academy, and the microscope gag in that Far Side comic.
