Man, Stanley Tucci's character is an angel compared to the kind of stuff that goes on at immigration in US airports today.

Dan

It's scary. I'm white af and I'm still concerned about my public social media presence returning to the States in a few days. I made sure my power of attorney is in place so my dad can sell my assets and I can live overseas if they don't like my opinions on this admin and don't let me return home.

Jeff K.

Simone saying “he’s really cute” when seeing Diego Luna seems like another point in favor of watching Andor, since he’s the titular character. And I appreciate that Zoe’s character is a Trekkie in this, given she went on to play Uhura in the new Star Trek movies.

Russell James Tiger

Pretty sure, as long as you are not making threats against anyone, the USA doesn't care about what you say on social media. A power of attorney is usually only is required if you are severely disabled or dead, are you saying you will be dead? I do not understand. Speaking of opinions on social media, do you see what they are doing in Europe if you have wrong thoughts on social media or in public? More people are being detained in Europe than Russia in the last 25 years for speaking or writing the wrong thing. JS

Patrick

Yeah after reading the story about the girl from here in the UK who was in ICE custody for a month for a miniscule mishap with her visa I have absolutely zero interest in ever visiting the US. The fact you have to use a burner phone to get into the country if you have anything negative regarding the current administration is just crazy.

robodong

Russell feel free to keep believing that and never visit Europe. its best for everyone. we dont mind you keep believing what you believe far far away across the ocean lmao.

John_rd

Such a good movie. My favourite Tom Hanks movie remains 'The 'burbs' hilarious.

JBK405

Regarding the language shown as "Krakozhian", it's mainly Bulgarian, but sometimes they mix in Russian, and a made-up slavic-sounding language for some scenes. Apparently the way Viktor slowly learns English is incredibly accurate to immersion-learning a second language as an adult. Which words he uses correctly versus getting phrases slightly wrong, mispronunciations, etc. Tom Hanks' father-in-law really is from Bulgaria, so he based Viktor on him.

Dan

Russell Yeah no, you need to get yourself a passport and see the world you're criticizing. No one is getting detained in Europe for wrong think, especially not more than Russia where there are documentaries on gay people being disappeared, students getting imprisoned for poetry, and oligarchs and politicians being killed by Putin for not swearing loyalty. Look up Alexei Navalny, there's an entire documentary about him being poisoned by Putin and tracking down his own would-be killers before he was killed separately. You're being lied to by Fox. As far as the States, there are constant news reports of European professors anf scientists being ejected for Tweets of disapproval, not threats. There are advisories across the EU to stay away from the US. Tourism to the US has dropped and we rank 84/100 on the world freedom index ( United States: Freedom in the World 2025 Country Report | Freedom House https://freedomhouse.org/country/united-states/freedom-world/2025 ). Google us and see what other countries have to say. I'm not even going to get into the power of attorney other than to say I might be unable to sign financial documentation to sell my homes while I'm in Greece, so having someone in the US who can do that for me is a good idea. I've been to 17 countries across 4 continents. Maybe you need to get out more, yeah? Or have you bought the lie that we're #1 and therefore never had an interest in seeing if it's actually true? Not criticizing you personally, you just need to consider your sources and make certain you aren't speaking from a lack of knowledge. Because that appears to be what's happening.

Russell James Tiger

I am not criticizing you either, I said I do not understand. As far as opinions on social media goes, look up how many people have been detained in Europe vs Russia in the past 5 years. Opened my eyes. As far as traveling, I am disabled and have already done all the traveling I wanted to before I became disabled, so I am good there, thank you. The entire world has lost its poop since 2020. I am glad that I was born in America, the worst neighbor we have is Mexico, and that is only because of the cartels. As far as our Government goes, most Americans on all sides trust them as much as an open beer at a house party.

Jeff K.

Also I would just like to throw out: this is one of the most underrated scores John Williams has ever composed. I find myself humming the main theme all the time despite not watching the movie particularly often.

Stephanie Bedworth

Russell, a Norwegian tourist was detained in a New Jersey airport and later denied entry just a few days ago. They were searching his phone and found a JD Vance meme on there and said it was "extreme terrorist propaganda." He also had a picture of himself with a homemade wooden pot pipe and he admitted to smoking pot in two places where it's legal to do so. Both of those pics were ones he posted to a chat app. I think there's probably a lot more going on now than what you might realize.

Ashkaun

As an Iranian-American this movie was a huge deal for us when it came out. We all wanted Nasseri’s story to be heard. Unfortunately neither Spielberg nor the studios publicly admitted that this movie was based on Nasseri. That was really disappointing.

ShōNuff3K

CASSIAN ANDOR! Diego Luna...from Rogue One

ShōNuff3K

Tom Hanks falls to 2nd place on the crying scale behind Viola Davis. Not only does she evict mucho tears from her ducts, she snots too!

Dan

Russell > "I said I do not understand" Well if you want to understand more, you should watch the documentary on Alexei Navalny (trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS5EIQ3zubE ). Do you want to know what courage looks like? It's a man in a sound proof glass cage, waving goodbye to his family and blowing kisses to his wife in the court room audience, knowing he's being sentenced to death for the crime of running for president of Russia (instead of letting Putin run uncontested, as is expected). The glass case around him was to ensure he could not defend himself or face his accusers. He was previously poisoned with novichok, a biological nerve agent (recently featured in a thriller with Jason Bateman called "Carry-On"), which was developed and maintained by the Kremlin. It's a signature poison that points back to the Kremlin. He escaped with his life, and returned to Russia to face certain death in trying to continue the race against Putin. And he did it with a smile because he believed that he owed it to his countrymen to show courage in the face of evil. Nothing in this world should scare you more than a man in the White House who thinks Putin's regime is to be admired and emulated in the United States of America. As far as European detensions... uh, yes? Europe is a multicultural place that is an easier target for terrorism from multiple directions. You remember 9/11, yes? And you know that Europe has been the staging ground for many American actions in the Middle East? Well Europe is closer. And you know there's always been conflict in the Middle East? And between Israel and its neighbors? Europe isn't unfairly targeting people based on their social media, they're simply more diligent in their evaluation of people's choices for vacation spots. No one's ever asked to look at my phone when I've traveled, whereas the same cannot be said for the Norwegian tourist mentioned above who wanted to visit America. You're saying Mexico is a terrible neighbor because of cartels... sooooo.... you'd expect more border detentions at the Mexican border than the Canadian border, yes? So it's bad if Europe has more detentions overall than Russia (because no one goes there...) ... but it's also good that the US has more detentions at the Mexican border than the Canadian border? So, then, what exactly is your criteria, here? Are you sure you want to look at quantities of detentions in a vacuum? Irrespective of selection biases (e.g. quantities of travelers) and methodologies (stamp reviews vs phone seizures)? > "look up how many people have been detained in Europe vs Russia in the past 5 years. Opened my eyes" No, your eyes were not opened by that single fact in a vacuum; the fact that you were fed that data in a vacuum is, itself, proof that you are being misled. Russia ranked 16/16 in tourism in 2024 despite crossing 7 time zones and being bigger than the 15 countries higher than it on the list. Look up how many people travel and add up 1-15, then compare it to #16. You're being fed skewed information by people who are sympathetic to Russia because they were told to be sympathetic to Russia. By someone who's been in bed with the Russians for a long time. Where they have a full-on assassination industry, managed by the Kremlin. What I'm arguing here is this: It is not the quantity of detensions that tells you how free a nation is. What matters is what their criteria are, and if they are unreasonable. Are people in Europe being detained because they have a joke meme of the Queen of England? No. Are people being detained because they have a joke meme of JD Vance? Yes. That's the difference; that's the problem. No one in Europe expects you to back a particular party to enter a specific country; the same cannot be said of the US. This administration has been very loud and clear that only Americans are welcome in America, and despite our rich history of inviting visitors and intellectuals to contribute to scientific findings in our country, it is now clear that we *want* a brain drain to occur, for purely xenophobic reasons. Unless they exhibit fealty to the same man who requires unquestioning, one-way loyalty in every dealing, private or public. I'll repeat: Nothing in this world should scare you more than a man in the White House who thinks Putin's regime is to be admired and emulated in the United States of America. Please, please, please watch the Navalny documentary.

I am SOOOO glad that you guys or at least someone reacted to this film. I have been saying for years that this movie doesn't get the love it truly deserves. Great Reaction!! 😁😁👏🏾👏🏾 **Edit** Me being the empathy that I am..... Seeing your reactions really made wanna give you guys a big hug!

Phil Jacke

Clearly it is time to watch Andor! I forgot Diego Luna was even in this movie

Roddrick Smith

I’ve been really trying to incorporate aggressive Simone tactics in my everyday life when I want people to do stuff for me. “Get off your ass and let me borrow $20 because I’m broke this weekend!”. I’ve had varying results.

Christina Doxstader

I'll just say this, the musical score on this movie is highly underrated IMO. It's so beautiful

paul rai

I feel like people (or perhaps cinephiles and movie fans) are rather dismissive of this film. Is it top tier Spielberg? No, but you’re asking for movies to constantly be at a 5/5 masterpiece. For what it is, The Terminal is well-acted (a fantastic ensemble of actors with their own mini arcs), beautifully shot, has great production design (that airport literally becomes a character by the end), and has unexpectedly hilarious and sad moments, while wrapped up in a sweet message that resonates with a lot of people. These are the mid-budget films Hollywood should go back to making. It’s a lost art of making a great solid studio-level comedy/drama that doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel but hit all those notes perfectly and effectively. Really good film. Happy you guys responded well to it.

paul rai

It’s quite lovely. It has a zippy, melodic tune that fits wonderfully with Williams’ scores while feeling specific for Victor’s sensibilities and charm. Always love a Spielberg/Williams collaboration.

Russell James Tiger

I know the Alexei Navalny story, very sad. I didn't say that European countries are equal to a communist dictatorship, just the amount of detentions is far greater recently for simply speaking/writing. Likewise, I am sure the reason is that Russians know better, or they get sent to the gulag/disappear/die. Also, the Americans are getting smart after letting everybody in for far too long, and mistakes happen. At least Americans are letting information out, unlike a ton of communist and socialist nations. Do you know how many enemies of America are roaming America's countryside, a lot, that is what I know. I know and have known quite a few people who work in law enforcement and intelligence. America is getting strict on immigration for good reasons. We cannot build walls around the country and each state like a lot of European countries because the cost is far too great. We also do not have cameras on every corner like a lot of European cities, that will be rectified with Palantir though. Most of the cases about Europeans being detained are either by mistake or they are suspect for good reason. At least with America, if it is a mistake, those people can sue and win a good amount of money. With Communist, Socialist and a rare few European nations you would be lucky to even have your nation to negotiate a release. Good day sirs, happy debating with you all.

Russell James Tiger

Also, get out of here only Americans are allowed in America BS. We have never said that, just visitors or immigrants legally are allowed, period. LEGALLY.

Russell James Tiger

The Norwegian SAID he was denied entry because of that funny AF meme. Stop the presses, that as all the haters of America need. There is no other proof needed to haters LMFAO. Move along now, bye bye then SMH

Thall

I understand the upset about the medicine, but you have to remember that America has been a completely fucked up shitshow for at least 50 years.

Dan

> " I didn't say that European countries are equal to a communist dictatorship, just the amount of detentions is far greater recently for simply speaking/writing" You said it was worse than Russia, when that is objectively false. People have died in Russian jails for poetry that promotes peace. > "Do you know how many enemies of America are roaming America's countryside, a lot" Not even just the countryside. As a veteran, I've never seen someone fit the description of "enemy, both .. and domestic" than the guy in the White House, and half the country voted for him. > "Also, the Americans are getting smart after letting everybody in for far too long" I'm guessing you're not aware that Obama deported more people than Trump, but believe Trump is doing the "right thing" now by deporting people lacking criminal convictions after having run on a platform of going after criminals. You probably also aren't aware of how the asylum process requires that someone enter the country first, meaning that "being here illegally" is a phrase you guys use because you just don't like people entering the country at all. Yes, it is xenophobia. https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/06/19/obama-trump-deportation-numbers/84257245007/ (Trump is deporting fewer people, just much less discriminately. He's going after non-criminals and people looking for honest work) > "America is getting strict on immigration for good reasons" And deporting people who have funny memes on their phone fits that description, how? What does someone's political alignment have to do with whether they should stay or go? If you're on the "let's de-naturalize people" side (against the 14th Amendment), what's to say white people born in Missouri shouldn't be deported for voting for the wrong side, according to you? > "We cannot build walls around the country" The fact you think we should is telling. That's called xenophobia. You realize US citizens commit crimes at higher rates than immigrants do, right? https://news.wisc.edu/undocumented-immigrants-far-less-likely-to-commit-crimes-in-u-s-than-citizens/ > "We also do not have cameras on every corner like a lot of European cities, that will be rectified with Palantir though" Rectified? **Rectified?** Oof you actually wrote that. Jesus. You think Palantir are the good guys?? Yikes. You realize the founder of Palantir is on record saying that he plans to use technology to subvert democracy, right? https://youtu.be/s-BQhXdCs8Y?si=CzmDSCIi0yywNyHW > "At least with America, if it is a mistake, those people can sue" Sue? You mean like through the legal system? Is that what happened to Abrego Garcia? Because the Constitution guarantees both citizens and illegals -- anyone physically here -- the right to due process. When did Abrego Garcia get due process and an opportunity to contest the mistake before a judge? When did he get a chance to sue? Your desired regime literally does not believe in the 6th Amendment. And they're trying to undo the 14th Amendment via executive order, when we all know that executive orders do not supersede the Constitution. There is a *process* for repealing amendments, and if you or this administration don't like the 14th or 6th amendments, why are you guys so afraid of going down the proper repeal process?? > "Also, get out of here only Americans are allowed in America BS. We have never said that." Of course you didn't. You guys never say the quiet part out loud. It's all dog whistles and lies. Trump said he was going after the violent people, but instead went after single moms and kids with cancer. Kids with cancer, man. Citizen children with cancer. Yeah, good luck to you too bud. I hope you have all the days you voted for. And when your family and friends go missing, remember that you wanted this.

Mastervodo

I had never seen this one before, and I was surprised it was a Rom Com! Did not know Gamora and Cassian Andor were in it either! And I was all tearing up with Simone at the romantic parts.

Dan

> "There is no other proof needed to haters LMFAO. Move along now, bye bye then SMH" Jesus dude, that was one example that you never bothered to refute at any previous point. We also referred to several other case types, like *scientists* and intellectuals. Did you ask about those? No, you cherry pick a case you feel you can ignore and go "LMAO hahah GTFO" and that's as far as you're wiling to think. You don't bother asking for evidence, you just assume it doesn't exist and use that assumption as an opportunity to act like you're in the right, while at the same time not offering any counter evidence for the claims about scientists nor students. You're just laughing yourself to sleep while your head is below the sand level. Yes, you deny reality and troll and troll and troll. Your existence is tied to hurting people and then sticking your fingers in your ears, thinking you're the adult in the room. Here's the French scientist I was thinking of when I mentioned "scientists" and the term "brain drain". Yeah, bye bye to you, too. I've seen more mature responses from Ace Ventura. https://www.france24.com/en/americas/20250320-french-scientist-denied-us-entry-over-text-messages-criticising-trump

Russell James Tiger

Keep on spewing lies about what I said and continue crying, you lost bud. If Trump loves Putin so much, then why sanction Russia for nearly the entirety of his first presidency and his entire second term. Why did Trump arm Ukraine with missiles in his first term before the war started. Why does Trump STILL send weapons to Ukraine? It is like the old idiom keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Inflation is going down not up. We recorded 88 billion dollars surplus BECAUSE of the tariffs when every liberal rag said they would put us into another depression. Just about every tariff we had increased has gone down to the same or lower than when he became president. I am sad Canada's Gov isn't playing ball, but they will eventually. Liberals are losing dude, boo freaking hoo.

MPH

The real story is soooooo much worse.

BH = VN (Viktor Navorskiy). B is Russian V, H is Russian N (pronounced V and N, just cyrillic characters). The country isn't real, he speaks what seems to be Eastern European gibberish, but when he's learning from Forbes Travel Guide, he's reading Russian, though oddly translated. His international passport had Cyrillic characters, but not in a way any word in Russian would ever be combined. Conclusion: just don't worry about it too much. It's a made up country with a language that doesn't exist.

Flipboitamidles

please continue tom hanks movies with the movie That Thing You Do! i think you will enjoy it! specifically the Theatrical Cut because I think the Extended version kinda slows down the movie too much

Nathan C Johnson

Honestly probably my favorite Tom Hanks movie.

Saifu

More signs points to Andor. It's time.....

gfixler

BH is Victor Navorski, because В is the V sound, and Н is the N sound in Slavic alphabets. Those aren't actually B and H. They're В and Н, the Russian letters.

Ari Ramirez

George: "Man, Tom Hanks is really good at crying eh" Simone: *actively sobbing* "Yeah, he's good"

Dan

@Cinebinge My apologies for keeping the beef going, possibly longer than it had to. As a submarine veteran, I get really angry with Russian propaganda because of how effective and dangerous it is. The US submarine fleet has played a critical role in US intelligence for decades, and we have a proud tradition of uncovering Russian plots. Their tradecraft, psy op prowess, and ability to convert American operatives has always been superior to ours, which is why we've always lost our spies and had to rely on technology. Seeing the country fall to Russian disinformation is particularly upsetting to me these days. But I'll try to disengage earlier in the conversation in the future.

AVATAR-X

Some more (non-standard) Rom-Coms and Rom-Drams Mr. Right (2015) - [Action Rom-Com] Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell Knight and Day (2010) [Action Rom-Com] Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz About Time (2013) [Sci-fi Rom-Com-Dram] Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson The Adjustment Bureau (2011) [Sci-fi Rom-Dram] Matt Damon and Emily Blunt

jmundt33a

Damn! What a list!! All fabulous. The weak link might be Knight & Day but that’s a nitpick My favorite Kendrick film, my favorite Curtis film (tied with Notting Hill), and an excellent Damon film.

Pete Luhtaniemi

Simone was talking about Meg Ryan so I'll throw my hat in to the ring and say Kate & Leopold (2001). Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan. I dunno what you'd call it...a time travely rom period piece or something

inspectordh

Keeping the Faith is a really great movie

Gratch... just Gratch

Oooh! I haven't seen a lot of those movies yet but Mr. Right is great! They should totally watch that one.

parker469a

Yeah, everytime Simone is fan girling about Zoe being a Trekkie I'm thinking "Well, yeah, of coarse she's a Trekkie, she the new Uhura for crying out loud." Maybe when they get to new movies she'll realize how on brand it is for Zoe to be a Trekkie since she probably did forget that that is who plays that character. However, she might not since it's probably going to take years for them to get that far and she might forget about this movie entirely by then.

Jose Robles

The Adjusment Bureau is pretty good!

Pepijn Schmitz

The "Shaka, when the walls fell" patron is really playing the long game.

Helly R

It's very silly but I enjoy the hat movie. Blunt and Damon have good chemistry.

Helly R

The fake National anthem Williams wrote was on point as well.

Rnd1000

If you want to see a serious grown up Enrique you need to see Andor season 1 and 2 then see Rogue One to wrap the story up.

Paul T Hewes

A sweet movie. One of the best simple, nice, funny movies ever made

Christina Doxstader

It's not really a rom-com though. The relationship is secondary to the main plot which is Victor waiting to get into the US and all the peoples lives he ends up touching along the way.
