So excited to watch Frieren with you guys. It was awesome to see how much you enjoyed the slice of life nature of the first episodes. For more slice of life/feelgood vibes I highly recommend Azumanga Daioh, Horimiya and The fragrant flower blooms with dignity.

Johan Gustafsson

Yay, more Frieren! =) I'm glad you're posting three eps at the time and not only one. However... I hope you've been told already, but the subtitles are super-annoying. Sure, they get the gist of what they're talking about, but they often add things that are not being said, or use wording that don't fit the characters or situations, and sometimes they are just totally off. I suspect maybe they are dubtitles, but I don't know since I never watch anything dubbed. Hopefully you can find a better source for the coming episodes. I know that Crunchyroll has decent subtitles, because that's where I watched it.

Hatty Time

Frieren Friday's is back! S2 airing atm and you guys are catching up with S1. What a great day to look forward to. Also what's underrated is the music, it truly helps with the vibes of the series.

Said Terroh

Hey. Loving these reactions. Little character detail, Frieren actually wears Flamme's earrings

fadyq1326y1

I think you guys have a bit of a scewed view on who watches this, specifically because you are rpg/adventure fans, remember anime as a genre is GINOURMOUS . I would say that the large majority that has watched Frieren has never played an RPG.

Jonathan

Oh happy day! I didn't expect 3 more episodes. :D I just finished the first three!

Jonathan

I think they'll pick up on that on their own eventually. :)

AegisTR

One thing I just noticed is that Stark tried to bluff his way out by claiming his scar was from a fight with a shadow dragon. But the thing is, in Episode 1 (30 years ago), Frieren visited Himmel because she couldn’t find a shadow dragon anywhere. Even the shop owner said the last time anyone saw a shadow dragon was decades ago. So she didn’t even entertain the idea that he might be telling the truth she just cut his tale off. Btw reading these subtitles really hurts for the love of any deity swich subs :D It’s like whoever wrote them didn’t like the characters vibe, so instead of translating, they just invented new characters in their head and wrote how they think those characters would sound in that scenario. Edit: I think this was recorded some time ago, so these subtitles will probably be the ones they watched for at least 2–3 weeks

Jonathan

They replied in the comments to E1-3 that they are aware and will switch but had already recorded a few weeks in advance.

Jose Robles

I suggest at the end you react to the extended version of the opening is pretty beautiful and both endings, if I remember correctly, the first ending is like Himmel letter to Frieren and the second is the response.

Jose Robles

you may already check this, but the character Simon was asking about, the one Eisen mentioned that died was The Hero of the South, you may know more about him in Season 2. But no he was not a member party, he was something like the Himmel of their time. He was so strong that it took 7 of the greatest generals of the demon king to defeat him.

KingSnitchGaming

FYI George, I saw that shirt in a previous video and immediately ordered 2 lol

PG Modehouse

Oof yeah some of these subtitles are just straight up hilariously wrong lol. I've been part of the fansub scene since the early 90s during the era of VHS fansubs and anime tape trading events so I can totally imagine some overzealous teenager taking wayyy too many liberties with the translations hahahaha. Like "Chotto matte ne" is not "Let me ponder". And "Heiter no okage da na" is not "I think we both know the answer to that question". Glad you made the switch to official versions later.

Jayson Phillips

You guys would LOVE Sword Art Online anime, It's a cross between Ready Player One and World of Warcraft meets Final Fantasy

MR

By the way Season 2 is starting in Japan just about now :)

Cade Hartman

With some of the comments you guys have made about Frieren, I think you would really like Delicious in Dungeon. It's another fantasy series, but it is more explicitly about the experience of dungeon crawling. Great show, great animation, great food too. Kind of an interesting mid-point between Frieren and Food Wars in terms of subject matter. Worth checking out whenever you end up taking more recommendations!

Tangerra

For Simone, if you want a nice little game where you just help people and it’s not very stressful, I suggest Potion Permit. I always found it calming.

Degenerick

season 2 episode 1 actually dropped today

Degenerick

idk if yal already recorded them but 8 9 and 10 go together

Milosz Skowronski

Yeah, the subtitles are... creative. But I think it's just the copy that's in the video, I think they watched it with different subs because of some comments they made that didn't match the subs on screen.

ECTI

The subs are really bad. They for some reason add stuff that is not being said in the show.

Com1xguy

Oh man I think I still have my Vision of Escaflowne fansub tapes somewhere. After spending hundreds on officially released stuff, it was a godsend. I miss those days :(

Twiska Brand

No, no one in the previous party died on the adventure. What Eisen was talking about during the flashback was all the *other* adventurers that died trying to take down the demon king. He was trying to emphasise how dangerous the quest was and how there was a *good chance* not all of them would make it

Twiska Brand

Might be transcripts of the dub version. That sometimes happens. Other times it's the other way round and when you watch a show subbed, the only subtitles available are the direct translations of the Japanese version.

PG Modehouse

What a time... I feel like scarcity drove the love and enthusiasm of the fandom those days. Every jpeg, bmp photo that took 5 minutes to load online over a dialup modem was precious! I would print out those scans from artbooks and put them in my school binders. It's so wild to think that now we can just hop on Crunchyroll and be spoiled for choice, while simultaneously losing old titles like Koko wa Greenwood, Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Slayers, Sorcerer Hunters, and many more. There's a whole generation of folks who don't know "Kono bangumi wa goran no sponsor no teikyo de okurishimasu."

Dimitri

Eisen was talking about the Hero of the South, humanity's strongest hero. As he said, the Hero of the South died fighting the seven sages of destruction some time before the hero's party left to go fight the demon king.

The Maestro

there is a game that's mostly peaceful helping people, it's the Atelier games, some of the later games don't even give you time constraints

dlpheonix

No its not even transcripts of the official dub. Its almost chat gpt levels of translation.

Matthew Maxon

Nope. Only a heel kills Party Snacks! No problem there! You did not mess up your Skyrim.

maikeru

oh man what happened to the dub versions of demon slayer? :( I was binge watching them in the last days and suddenly it´s gone, it was there yesterday

Cinebinge

hi maikeru, all the dub versions are still there unchanged. could you send a screenshot in the community chat of what your page looks like so we can see why its missing for you? thanks

Maniacalmouse

You guys have good timing picking this one to alternate with Food Wars! The first episode of Season 2 just premiered on Crunchyroll, so by the time you finish season one and the next season of Food Wars, all or most of season two of Frieren should be available.

Carlos

Brother, are those yams codex compliant?

maikeru

hi george, thx for the reply. I'm not at home right now so I can't check it now on my laptop, but the dub versions were def gone or not visible when I logged in today to continue watching demon slayer, BUT I just logged in on my phone over the browser and the dub versions are there which is great. I'll be at home tomorrow and I'll let you know if the problem still exsists when I'm on the website over the laptop.

WalrusWallace

Great reaction as always! Enjoying this series so much

gfixler

This is such a warm hug of a show, but I always struggle with ancient characters like this. What the heck was she doing for the 1000+ years that the last 10 have been so meaningful? Maybe she just never cared much about people, and somehow this group broke through? Maybe her species takes this long to emotionally mature? Maybe she never hung out with humans before this? It feels backwards, at least to me, as a human. SO much I cared about throughout my younger life seems so silly to me now. I'm way more unflappable, and calm about most things than I was in the past. I walk away from so many kinds of arguments now, because I've had them, and I know the three ways (and likely only way) they'll end. I know how a ton of things work, so new "inventions" I think "We had that as a toy in the 80s". It's hard to imagine living for centuries, and still being the way she is, especially as someone who likes to learn. I'm just imagining that no one ever talked to her like Himmel did, showing interest, and he broke through her icy exterior, then checked out, leaving her with a bunch of feelings she doesn't know what it to do with.

gfixler

Is it Super Busy Hospital, Demetri Martin's idea for a game where you just take care of all the people who've been shot in all the other games?

CRossLP

I'm so happy you guys started this show, I remember watching through season 1 and think man I feel like George and Simone would love this series so much. An underreacted to anime that I think you guys would like is Secrets of the Silent Witch. I also think Spy X Family is also right up this channels alley. For a Chinese Donghua (anime) Lord of Mysteries could be interesting.

Jose Robles

I was going to answer something about Frieren character but can be a spoiler for future chapters, so I may answer back after episode 12, I think.

maikeru

Ok, now I'm back on my laptop and I found out what was wrong. The reason I couldn't see the dub versions on the cinebingers.ca site was because I clicked on 'Sync with your copy' accidentally 😅 and didn't realize it although the thumbnails look differently. Glad it was just a confusion.

Philipp Roensch

I can tottaly appreciate if we never see Eisen beyond beard and helmet, his design is iconic and I love him. And the match-cuts, back and forth to that journey and current quest, now thats how you create gravitas. Speaking of adventures that honor a friend: I participated in two LARPs were characters got proper funerals, they can get really emotional. One was a Goblin hero for example, and because he was so well traveled, 50+ people marched in the procession and several shared stories what this character had accomplished. He was, by his wishes, babtized in wine of course. Cozy, fluffy RPG suggestion for Simone: Cat Quest (has 3 entries already).

Team_FRDM_

Love all your reactions, and especially glad you started watching anime, particularly shows like Demon Slayer and Frieren as they are two of my favorite shows. I would like to recommend the series “Dungeon Meshi” or “Delicious in Dungeon” as it is known in English, if you like the D&D themes that are present in Frieren you will also love that series. It is one season of 25 episodes, so maybe you could fit it in between seasons 2 and 3 of food wars. Keep up the amazing work and enjoy the rest of Frieren, it is a masterpiece!

Rainy Days

I missed the intro/outro music in this edit!

Liuzetz

I don't know why but I could hear you two having conversations like these for a long time. It just feels wholesome to me. Frieren is such a peaceful show and very interesting. So happy you are experiencing this one.

Pharal

Yeah, I agree. It is really weird subs. Sometimes waaaaay too modern, with expressions that don't belong in the world, and other times, they make needlessly complicated choices of words, that many won't know. In a show as intricate as this, where every sentence and word means something, it is really bad, because it changes whole characters. The dub is way better than this, and I am no dub guy. That said, I do prefer the original subtitles, that translates the meaning, more than the words.

Private_pAuLa

This was the first anime I watched. I rewatched it with my mum and she has no experience with RPG and loves the series

Eric Loesch

Heyo, I really appreciate having versions for having my own copy or not.

Brien

I played Old School Runescape 20 years ago but that is it as far as RPG's go.

testlunch

I completely get being stressed out by Stardew Valley. It’s fun in its own way but it is NO comfy, cozy farm sim. More like a crazy, capitalist farm sim.
