Gowron, he of the *Legendary* Eyes has appeared. :)

Robert Cooper

👁️👁️ Glory to you, and you Haaaaause

Joe Concepts

Just wanted to ask my fellow patrons, does anyone still watch these using their own copy to sync up too? And if you do, why?

blerbaberpaterb

individual audio control between movie and their commentary, some movies have waaay more varied audio levels. super loud at some parts and super quiet at others. being able to adjust it as i watch is great. also, you can get the youtube link for sync own copies on their site, which depending on where im watching, is easier to watch since i can do it on the youtube app.

Data Cable

Alexander was played by Jon Steuer in this (and only this) ep. He is the one Simone is thinking of, as he took his own life on New Years Day, 2018, at the age of 33.

AJCham

I don't, but when that was the only option one benefit was having the show on my big screen, with Simone and George on my tablet - better way to enjoy the show at the same time as the commentary. I might have continued to do so, but for the downside of different video sources desyncing over the course of the episode.

Mastervodo

Damn it Cooper! You said it before I could!

Mastervodo

"Maybe you're thinking of Paul Walker?" Dammit George! That was freaking hilarious, and don't let anyone tell you any different! Another acceptable response: "Maybe one of the actors was in a shuttle/transporter accident".

Matt O'Keefe

I always found the end of Future Imperfect a bit silly. I also had the subtitles on for the episode and when George said Riklings. It wrote it out as Reichlings in the subtitles. Kinda hilarious.

Will Sofer

Honestly, he plays a pretty good Jean-Luc Riker/Ethan in this episode, as well.

s0rd3z

Reunion is a great episode. Great use of past events to further characters, more Klingon lore and a great guest actor. Suzie Plaxton is great and I would have preferred that character sticking around. The stories that could be told with a Klingon family on board would of been a great opportunity imo. Future Imperfect is honestly pretty good but that reveal at the end with the dollar store little grey man costume bugs me. Side note glad you have read Hyperion, I love those books and knew nothing the first time I read through them. If you have not read past Hyperion I recommend it for sure, for being a Hugo award winner I feel the whole Hyperion cantos is not brought up enough. I am really hoping for a good adaptation some day of at least the initial 1989 novel.

Mike FromOz

*Gowron appears in an episode* Me: "EXPERIENCE BIIIIIIJJJJJJ!"

DesolationEntertained

"So the only two challengers are an outsider and a douche?" Heh heh, yeah, millions of people and the only two leaders they seem able to choose between are really unpopular self-serving fools. Good thing it's just fiction!

Joel

Future Imperfect - I definitely have to agree with George on this one, I remember when this first aired, and I had a distinct sense of this cannot be real, what's going on

Joel

He of the Eyes That Must Not Be Looked Into

blerbaberpaterb

or, how about we as viewers realize that S&G are just people too and are simply saying whatever comes to their mind at the moment, and should continue to do so without having to weigh every word over first fearing whether what they say is meets fandom approval. Or, if not that idea... you can also just acknowledge noticing little things doesnt automatically mean criticism. and criticism doesnt automatically mean something is bad. its unhealthy to only want to hear thoughts that mirror yours.

ChiefKC

Simone, we all remember the "ZOOM", mostly because it caused George to spit coffee all over his monitor.

Alec Zrike

Future Imperfect - Minuet was a callback to the first-season episode 11001001. She was the holograph created to keep Riker busy while the Enterprise was being hijacked.

Will Sofer

Gowron’s eyes are so big because he feasts on the eyes on his enemy, and absorbs their power.

Jon

The scary thing is that current AI probably could have done a better job as fooling Riker. I can only imagine if AI continued into STTNG time at the current pace what it would have been capable of.

Mastervodo

I am hoping EVERY DAY for a notice that JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy has another Sounds of Cinebinge video up and ready to go! Big fan of Jakey.

Paul Peavler

I forgot that Paul Walker plays Riker’s kid in Future Imperfect. Wild.

Paul Peavler

I personally always like episodes where Riker is captain. It’s like when you had a fun substitute teacher.

ChiefKC

Tomalok is played by Andreas Katsulas. You may remember him as the one armed killer from "The Fugitive" and as Ambassador G'Kar from Babylon 5.

Stuart_Design

Can we have show subtitles back for the 'where you do not need your own copy' version? Thank you.

REDR58

She was played there and here by Carolyn McCormick.

The Real Andrew Kim

Sorry Simone, but you will never be able to live the Paul Walker thing down 😂

REDR58

The design of the alien just makes it super silly.

gfixler

I always brought my own, and didn't want to watch the tiny video version. Then I visited family for an extended period of time (a few months), so I was on a different setup, and only had one monitor, so I switched, planning to switch back. Now, laziness has gotten the best of me, and I've been watching the don't need your own version, with the tiny, inset copy of whatever, every time. This is why I'm staying away from AI for the most part. I just give up entirely on any effort at the first opportunity.

REDR58

I generally do, as I have the whole series on Blu-ray ripped to my NAS. I prefer watching it full screen so I can take note of things while I have S&G's reaction open on my iPad.

gfixler

I've been Gowronned. I saw the actor at a table at a tiny convention once, and he looked at me and smiled and nodded. Those eyes pierce right through to your soul.

REDR58

Reunion This episode was directed by Jonathan Frakes. This is his second time directing a TNG episode since Season 3, "The Offspring" (about Data creating a daughter). K’mpec (played by Charles Cooper, the same actor as before) was last seen in "Sins of the Father,” the discommendation episode with Worf. Robert O'Reilly who plays Gowron, previously appeared on the show in the second season episode “Manhunt” as a holodeck character “Scarface” (seen here at 0:49 into the clip): https://youtu.be/p7pPedBtbvk?si=4gtYAy1_1SjYMC_N When Worf and Duras fight, you can see that Worf’s bat'leth is a stunt weapon because its formerly sharp edges are squared off.

Rangerliska

Been waiting for the reaction to old crazy eyes Gowron. It did not disappoint!

REDR58

Oh my gosh you guys, just go see “Project Hail Mary.” This movie is made for the big screen.

Eileen

"no you can't don't even try" is delivered with expert contempt

p0sthum4n

Been going through a pretty rough time the last month and a half after riding very high for the last year. Been a difficult few weeks. Hard to let myself sit in silence without ruminating so I've always got content playing. TNG Wednesday still brings a smile to my face. Appreciate you two.

Glenner7

Simone, you might not want to log into your phone with the screen pointing toward the camera...

REDR58

Future Imperfect George, in “The Defector,” the defecting Romulan Admiral Alidar Jarok (James Sloyan) was working for what he thought were good interests, to prevent a war between the Romulans and the Federation. Data should’ve volunteered to go down to the passing gas planet alone. But then we would’ve not have the memory loss issue story. Perhaps that would have been for the best... Young Jean-Luc refers to his mother as “Riker, Mrs. William T.” Huh? I know *why* it was done for story reasons, to let Riker himself say “Minuet” but the practice of referring to a wife by her husband’s given name and surname is rather antiquated even today! “Ethan” secures the escape vent with a piece of wire wrapped around a nail. Where did he find that??? Do the Romulans assemble their secret subterranean bases with box nails? Come on, Barash, you have to do better than that! And that’s a hell of a detailed blueprint Ethan conjures up in his little hideaway. This episode has some funny moments novelties with the few things that have “changed” with the characters but otherwise it is little more than “it was all a dream” standard TV trope which is unremarkable and contrived, even with the twist. The goofy-looking alien Barash is just the icing on the cake. If it was not for the reaction here, I skip this episode when I rewatch the series. However, this episode is notable as being the first appearance of the late Patti Yasutake (1953-2024) as “Alyssa Ogawa” who will show up again a number of times. Tomalak: “So much effort, so little accomplished.” “We are wasting time.” Quite so.

Kieran Hawk

Google failed George this time; the actor who played young Alexander later died of 'self inflicted reasons'... On a lighter note; Simone is right about the Hyperion Cantos, it is absolutely delicious. Dan Simmons primarily writes horror, but he brings that visceral imagery and prose to his scifi works as well.

Guts

The Paul Walker callback 🤣

Cory Garron

Commander Tomalak has so far appeared in 3 episodes. "The Enemy" (Season 3, Episode 7): First appearance, where he confronts Picard over a crashed scout ship. "The Defector" (Season 3, Episode 10): Second appearance, attempting to stop a defecting Romulan Admiral. "Future Imperfect" (Season 4, Episode 8): Appears as a hologram in a ruse designed

Cory Garron

I do, as I like having the show on my big screen and the show audio is 5.1, whereas the reaction audio is only 2.0. And I can control the two volumes independently. Sure sometimes it's a mild pain, but not enough for me to stop.

Guts

Did George call Riker's son a Rikling? 😂

DonkyDave

Simone looking stunning as always!

John

George, that's everyone's reaction seeing Gowron for the first time.

Christina Doxstader

I've always loved the Gowron character and was so excited when he was brought back in a pretty prominent way during Deep Space Nine. I even got to meet the actor at a local Comic-Con a couple years ago. Pretty nice guy too.

p0sthum4n

In this episode, Alexander is played by Jon Paul Steuer, not Brian Bonsall. Steuer took his own life in 2018.

WastedPo

For "Future Imperfect," the writers likely weren't ACTUALLY trying to trick the audience into thinking this was really the future. The interest lay in wondering what exactly was happening. Was it a dream? Was it a Romulan deception? (And yes, as soon as Tomalak boards the Enterprise, the menacing music plays, and we suspect this is all a trick to get Riker to reveal the location of their base. Also, the computer could never get records that Riker was looking for until his "son" directly asked the computer to bring up the records.) As a side thing, it was just plain interesting to see Riker try to navigate this very confusing situation. And also interesting to see how many changes had happened on the Enterprise in 16 years (whether or not it was real).

StonyD

Confirmed: Four seasons in and it's obvious Simone has only seen The Best of Both Worlds and probably The Drumhead. And that's it. LOL!! ;p

StonyD

Alexander was played by Brian Bonsall in just this episode, Reunion. Then, an actor named Jon Paul Steuer took over for the remainder of TNG. It was Steuer that had the "bad ending" Simone referenced.

Jomero

The second episode reminded me of a memory long forgotten. When, at the beginning of the episode, the person on the bridge stopped Data and Picard and spoke his line. My friend (who has passed away) and I had a bunch of inside jokes surrounding this show as we used to watch it together. Whenever an extra would say a line, one of us in Picards voice would say "Thank you, Ensign One-Line." We'd have ones for Ensigns No-Lines and Ensigns Two-Lines. Good happy memories, ones I am glad he and I shared.

Maxi

Don't let SellSwordArts hear you say that about the Bat'leth George lol

Joel

I never watched the previews, I always changed the channel before the credits ended

Joel

I love nurse Ogawa, she's one of my absolute favorite.... um, B tier? crewmates

David N

From now on im going to suspiciously glare at anyone who tells me everything is going to be fine.

parker469a

"Steuer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 1, 2018, aged 33, in Portland, Oregon. Upon Steuer's death, the restaurant closed permanently."

doe555

I'm jealous. I also greatly admired his performance in DS9.

gfixler

Don't think too hard about how Worf and K'Ehleyr made Alexander two seasons ago, and the seasons are each a year long. This is soap opera rules of child growth. Also, Klingons supposedly mature much faster, or something.

Jafe

Always watch my own copy. It’s basically a commentary track. Besides the isolated volume control, I like to watch the film or show full screen with the react PiP obscuring as little of the frame as possible (best with 4:3 and 2.39:1 aspect sources)

Jafe

Simone your combadge logic is correct. You are remembering how they behave in future series. Sometime in the six years between “Reunion” and the VOY season 2 ep I was just watching they have locked the standard that it gives the location of wherever the badge is as the location of that person. Unless the writer forgets or needs it to behave some other way for their plot to work.

Will Sofer

@Joel Same. While she admittedly mostly serves as a character for Dr. Crusher to bounce lines off of, I like that they gradually flesh out her character in various ways.

Kyle Baker

"It's almost Beyond Belief" :D

Tangerra

I love how often Worf just wants to blame Romulans for everything. The planet was has an unknown energy source? Romulans. The enterprise is malfunctioning? Romulans. My shoelace is untied? Romulans.

Angzarr

Gowron appearances never disappoint.

REDR58

Speaking of people other than the main cast speaking on screen, both Gowron’s man and the Starfleet security guard outside of their quarters both speak, but you cannot see their faces as they do.

REDR58

Yes you have that just reversed!

REDR58

She’s very good and a nice addition to the medical staff. Sadly the actor died aged 70 from lymphoma in August 2024 and her sister Irene Hirano (who was married to then late US Daniel Inouye from Hawaii) died aged 71 in 2020 from another rare cancer.

REDR58

It was just something I did as a kid as I was so excited to see what was coming the next week!

Joel

Lol, there were a few times I forgot to do it until the preview started to come up, and I'd have to panic sprint across the room to avoid spoilers

Angzarr

1:18:27 "There must have been some awkward moments... " Ugh, Jean-Luc spit up all over me. Oh no, Jean-Luc filled his diaper again. Jean-Luc, you're grounded! Jean-Luc, it's time to have The Talk...

REDR58

Well, they are without honor.

Robert Cooper

Isn't it about time for Star Trek 6?

John Smith

To be fair, Romulans plot so much that eventually, one of those plots has to involve untied shoelaces.

John Smith

With regard to the longest novel, Guinness does recognize Proust's work as the longest (at approx. 9.6 million characters/1.3 million words), but there's a website that lists longest novels that has "Artamène/Cyrus the Great" by Madeleine de Scudéry in the #1 place (it contains 2.1 million words). As a side note, I've read a MLP/Fallout crossover fan-fiction that totals roughly 1.7 million words (Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons). It might be counted as "a novel". Also, there's a Chinese web-novel I've read called "The King's Avatar", which has 1736 chapters (each between three and ten(?) pages long); not sure how many words that comes out to be, but it's a lot.

Edina Lewis

When Gowron looks at you, you stay looked at!!
