It’s actually appropriate you guys are watching the first two episodes of the season back to back, because that’s how it premiered originally!

Robban6948

I am sure that you already have a plan for what will come after Stranger Things, but if you don't, may I recommend The Pitt? I have been binging it and I really love it

Cam

So so glad this is back. RIP to the great Nancy Marchand!

Inkpendude

there will be a poll

PastaDon

Look what's back on.. "Hey Ma, come look.. the cinnamon bun people are watchn' The Sopranos again!" She loves when you guys watch this, like seeing an old friend..

newhastings

I love how the mr ruggiero thing was an excuse to make a mr rogers joke

Potsi

Welcome back gabgool famiglia

Episode 1: I think the purpose of the tennis scenes was to show us how Carmela has emotional affairs rather than physical. She was clearly attracted to the tennis instructor and devastated that he was leaving and being replaced by a woman who is very infatuated with Adriana. After that, she just seems bored with tennis. We also saw her having an emotional affair with Father Intintola, the priest in season 1. There was also Victor, the home decorator in season 2. She came very close to having a real affair with him until he backed off in the 'Bust Out' episode.

2026-10-27 21:00 Wow, I'm suprised that they were so surprised that Tony is a racist. He's been saying racist shit constantly for 2 seasons! 🤣

FWPJR.

Finally, Sopranos Tuesday is back. I can’t wait to watch this reaction.

Charlie Casey

You still have to do the intro Simone - there's no escaping your promise.

newhastings

the CGI head thing was a weird way of trying to have her back for one last scene, it cost a quarter million and with the introduction of HD tv the effect has aged like milk. But it also kind of adds to the eerie creepiness of the episode overall

Michael T.

From the episode trivia - Nancy Marchand passed away before the third season began filming. Writer David Chase decided there should be one final conversation with Tony before Livia dies. Dialogue from previous episodes was pieced together for Livia's half of the conversation, and state-of-the-art CGI effects were used to place old footage of her face on a body double. The effect cost about $250,000, and took two weeks to put together. Chase was inspired by seeing the same effect used in Gladiator (2000) with Oliver Reed. Unfortunately, this was a difficult process and the part of Livia's hair moves from one side of her head to another and the lighting on her face doesn't match the light of the room or the other characters in the room with her.

Dave Jacob

Simone - I don’t care if literal shit is coming out of the front of the recorder. I better see that thing this season 😆

Andrew

The mashup of the songs was absolutely brilliant.

Jacob

As someone who saw this when it first aired, I definitely did not notice the CGI effects. I was only 15 at the time, but even when I watched again several years later I still didn't catch it but it was still video quality no where near today's standards. Somewhere in the 2010's did I finally notice, and it has only become more and more noticeable. Definitely it's so completely obvious now I completely understand how watching it your first time people would have issues with it. I do think however the actual scene itself is important for several reasons, introduces an important character and several other details that come back up later in the episode. If the only difference would be the scene had the actual actor in it, and then you wouldn't even be thinking the scene is necessary or not, than I disagree a bit with the scene being unnecessary. That being said, if this show was made today I would completely agree with George, I don't think they would have made it that way.

TJ

I think they added that cgi scene because they felt they needed to really emphasize that Livia more than likely would have testified against Tony and his relief thst she can't now from her passing.

SANAMDEEP

if they wanted that conversation between tony and livia, i don't see why they couldnt have done it from a phone call. like tony calls from an outside line and such and such

BigM

Wait, did George and Simone think the water heater was going to literally blow up? The guy said the seams were about to give up, as in it was gonna burst and leak water. They literally said they would need a plumber. There won't be an explosion.

p0sthum4n

If I had to guess, being from Canada, they're probably used to gas water heaters as opposed to electric and thought that's what they were talking about when they said it's "gonna blow".

BigM

Sure I guess. If it exploded I don't think they would have needed a plumber to fix that though.

Maxi

Bringing up Rogue One and Carrie Fischer, while totally forgetting about Grand Moff Tarkin played by Peter Cushing. In both cases, the Deep Fake process Disney used is basically the high tech version of using old recordings of the actor to make a new scene.

Obsidian_Rose

I think they also used that scene to reintroduce Svetlana

TJ

Yeah that too

Thomas Yanez

Simone, I don't think you're getting that the funny part is just the simple idea of somebody playing the theme for the show (or any of the shows y'all watch) with a recorder. That's all that has to exist for it to be funny. It might be funnier if the playing is bad, but that would be a cringey funny. Just having the recorder playing quietly in the background instead of the real theme song (for this, for ST:TNG, whatever) while y'all do intro would be amusing. Record your best version and play it every episode in the background of the opening credits, instead of trying to play it in real time for one intro.

Charlie Casey

Whilst it seems off-colour now, to include Olivia's actress the way they did, viewers weren't binge watching the show back then, but waiting a year for the third season. Olivia's wretchedness might have been forgiven or diminished in the viewer/s eyes, had she died off screen - as they hadn't seen her in action for a year. The director might have thought it necessary to provide but one scene of her and Tony interacting, to remind the audience of what she was like. In this context, its a little more understandable, though in the long-run it has obviously made the episode a little worse as a result.

BigM

Since they have watched The Wire and now watching this, I wonder if they should watch Oz, the show that basically started HBO's crazy successful run of TV shows. It might be a bit too grim for this format though.

Farbod

Yes. The actress that played Olivia dying had a big effect on season 3's story. The legal battle between son and mother in the criminal case was abandoned. I think they did a great job changing the story. Season 3 is my favorite season.

michael denny

Simone should just play anything she wants during the intro anything is better than silence

Jonathan Eaton

When it first aired, what I first noticed was Olivia was only saying lines she had said before, and with the same inflection as before. And to me, it all seemed slightly out of place in the conversation, so I started looking closer and could tell she was edited in.

michael denny

now you guys have to watch public enemy 1931

Deadly Ramon

I've watched the entire Sopranos series several times, but this was the first time I noticed the CGI head of Livia Soprano. All the other times I watched it were on DVD and streaming, but I guess my mind was wandering or I wasn't looking too closely. George has quite the eye for detail.

Deadly Ramon

I hope they consider Lilyhammer, which stars Steven Van Zandt. It's almost like a Sopranos sequel, and includes some other familiar faces in some episodes of its 3 seasons.

David Eubanks

It’s a thing tho a lot of Italians do not like blacks and a lot of blacks don’t like Italians in the New York New Jersey area

JBK405

Episode one is a (generally) accurate portrayal of the process for getting a warrant to plant a listening device. It's not 100% correct, but close enough for TV. Seeing AJ try out for the football team brings me back to the first episode. In the pilot episode Tony remarked that he still remembers when Junior said he "never had the makings of a varsity athlete". That line has become one of the biggest memes of the series. If you go to any Sopranos clip on YouTube you'll see DOZENS of comments saying "This clip never had the makings of a varsity athlete". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was public knowledge that Nancy Marchand had died between the seasons, so everybody thought the character would die in the first episode of this season. Specifically, when Tony and Carmela began rushing home in the middle of the day a lot of people said "They're going to announce her death here". Instead they revealed that it was the water heater that "died", and the audience didn't know what to expect next. David Chase has since said that he regrets using the CGI for this episode. Not just because the effects themselves are sub-par (and they are), but because it just wasn't necessary for the story. He's said he wishes they had just announced it without trying to have 'one last scene'. I have Long and Complicated Thoughts when it comes to using old footage of actors to create new content, but in this one specific situation I'm actually okay with it on a moral level. When Nancy Marchand's health was failing she requested to stay on the show for as long as she could, and wanted to keep acting until she physically couldn't participate anymore. So i think she'd be okay with coming back for One Last Hurrah (Even though I agree it wasn't necessary from a story perspective). "His brother was worse!" is a classic Jewish joke. Living memory is an important part of Jewish funerary services. Instead of "Rest in peace" the most common comforting statement is "May their memory be a blessing". You're supposed to reminisce and keep their legacy alive, which by necessity includes remembering ALL of them, not just the good stuff only. The man who was revealed to be an informant and offered to wear a wire is Ray Curto. He's a "capo" (Captain) in the Family. This reveal that Ray is an informant helps put the lie to the common complaint that it's the new generation of criminals that can't live up to the old generation. They always talk about how people used to have honor and upheld the code of silence, and it's the lazy and cowardly youth that are destroying the organization, but here's an old-timer who worked with Johnny Boy and Junior Soprano and hails from the "golden age" and he's just as ready to turn on his associates as anyone. He doesn't even seem to have the guilt that Pussy had. Janice says that her son lives in Montreal, and claims that he now lives on the street and she can't contact him. Keep in mind that we only have Janice's word on this, so whether it's true or not....I dunno. It may just be that he's cut her off and it's easier for her to say he's homeless than admit that.

REDR58

As far as I can tell, hot water heater tanks, whether they are gas-fired or electric, in both Canada and the US require pressure relief valves which would safely (if not messily) take care of any excessive pressure building up in the tank. The Sopranos' tanks was just rusting out and in danger of leaking, as we saw. Nothing the FBI people said implied they were concerned about an actual explosion. (edited)

Brian Harris

So I do remember Nancy Marchand dying and them announcing they were using old footage to create a final scene with her. And yes, it was very obvious even then that it was CGI. The episode got some criticism for it, but the funeral scene was so good and well-written that people mostly focused on that. Overall, I think Livia’s death was handled really well. Chris being stoned at the wake is one of my favorite moments ever on the show.

Philipp Roensch

S03E01 has a great start, very cool this perspektive flip. With the learing and invading cops, I would say debatable, on who the bad guys are. I believe they inserted Olivia once more before the death for several reasons: totally surprised the showrunners, reintroduces Svetlana and it reinforces the point with the children books. The ramp up to "she did not even leave any memories for her grandkids" hits better. It is an admittedly akward tv budget comp work^^. I wondered when they gonna show Tony as rough to the afro american's as his generation really was, not his worst crime, but bold for a main character.

REDR58

During episode 1, one of the exterior shots of Quantico looked very familiar to me so I checked...Right after the scene where the FBI technician is talking about the microphones, you see an exterior view of Quantico, which is taken from “Silence of the Lambs”! At the base of the building, you see angled concrete walls, a pair of pipes on the right side of the screen at the base of the angled wall, and a stain of some kind on the wall itself, all of which looks exactly as it does in the movie. The clouds, the bare tree behind the building walkway bridge and the reflections in the window exactly match between the movie and the scene in the show. Compare the shot of Quantico in the show and the same shot (cropped) in the opening titles of “Silence of the Lambs”: 25 seconds into the clip from the show here: https://videos.files.wordpress.com/Qv4SfyLx/quantico_dvd.mp4 03:25 into the opening credits from “SOTL” here: https://youtu.be/AuMu4Hmk_s8?si=uq5SQON32Y2JIobO&t=192 I could find nothing online if this was an Easter Egg or what, but this website (where the clip from the show comes from) guessed it was "stock footage" but it is definitely taken from the movie! https://sopranosautopsy.com/season-3-2/mr-ruggerios-neighborhood-3-02/ Edit: someone made a comment in 2019 in the above link: "Another thing to point out about the flyover shot of FBI headquarters is that it is the exact same B-roll footage that is used for the exterior shots of Quantico in The Silence of the Lambs. Silence of the Lambs, of course, is a film that is all about voyeurism. “You’d think I was Hannibal Lecture of something!”"

TylerNorCal

Simone being shocked that a mobster is racist is hilarious 😂

REDR58

A few more things I noticed in Episode 1 Mr. Ruggerio’s Neighborhood The “Peter Gunn Theme” that plays throughout should be very familiar to anybody who played “Spy Hunter” (music starts around 2:00): https://youtu.be/93ds1VldZGI?si=bRVxzTUaWe2wdXKi Meadow and her roommate’s Absolut magazine ads on their dorm wall, my sister used to do the same thing! Interestingly, after Meadow's roommate talks about the blind man on the subway being bothered by the smell of the chicken, when Tony and Furio get out of the car in the next scene, as Furio wipes down the car, in the background on the right you can see what appears to be a blind man with a guide dog holding onto the arm of another man. On September 1, 2021, I got 7 inches of water in my basement from rains from Hurricane Ida (August 31-September 5, 2021) after the power failed and the battery-powered backup sump pumps were overwhelmed. Before that, my parents’ house had about 20,000 gallons (~75,000 liters) of water pumped out of their house by the fire department, stemming from Hurricane Floyd (Spetember 7, 1999). Getting that kind of water in the basement is a real pain in the ass. Back in the 1980s, we frequently got water in our basement as we didn't have a sump pump, and a lot of my mom’s record collection was destroyed.

MacGuffinStuff

Oh boy, had to stop watching for a minute; the water heater "blowing up" is a figure of speech, they don't actually explode they just start leaking like crazy, no hot water, water damage, and just a general pain in the ass.

REDR58

Unless the pressure relief valve is somehow damaged no, they will not explode. But if they do explode, it can be very problematic!

Stan the Man

Before I watch I have to know, did they notice Pussy in the mirror or no?

REDR58

Yes, people were watching in standard definition at the time. It would not be as noticeable then. The show was recorded on 35mm film, which makes the HD version possible (and not upscaling from standard def tapes or whatever)

REDR58

I wonder if Simone and George know who Mr. Rogers was?

newhastings

im assuming maybe through cultural osmosis of general american pop culture. That Tom Hanks Mr Rogers movie would make for a good reaction

Brien

Well, if you guys actually read the title of episode 2 ...I'm just sayin'

king2tiger

I love the Pizzle Yanked shirt! Kingdom Come Deliverance is such a great game

Stan the Man

Humans will always find ways to dislike other humans. The first thing we look for is differences. It’s like an Italian/black/New York/New Jersey thing. It’s just what human beings do sometimes. When we want to hurt someone’s feelings what do we do? Look for something like bad teeth, acne, bald spots, overweight etc to call attention to.

mpd

When it comes to playing the theme song on recorder, you can't predict what our reaction will be, even with computers. You just have to try it. What I'm saying is .............

Jay

I know she's awful but I love Janice, honestly. I remember being delighted when she showed up here, wasn't sure she'd be coming back. Aida Turturro is so fu__ing good in the role and I love how she winds Tony up and vice versa. Skip the wake scene, George? It's one of the funniest/best scenes in the whole show 😂

Snuggelbum

Finally, they are meeting Ralphie.... oh my!

MacGuffinStuff

Bad thermostat, bad Pressure Relief Valve, 120 gallons, that could be real bad, but George and Simone I think we're imagining a gas explosion or something, the toilet in Lethal Weapon 2

MacGuffinStuff

To be fair George doesn't deal with water heaters, but SIMONE, it behooves you as a homeowner, little things you learn around the house will save you a lot of money, time, and stress, and you won't have to pay people to fix things who wanna hang out with you when they should be finished by now, ya gotta get you one of them Black & Decker... 😆

MacGuffinStuff

Ralphie was also the "I don't wear a hairpiece!" brother of the Fratelli Bros. in The Goonies. Joe Pantoliano "Joey Pants", Pantoliano is like the Italian equivalent of Spanish pantalones, (pants). And he's also in LA BAMBA, hope you watch it, uncharacteristic character for him, as a character actor, I think. Especially next to this character, Ralphie. This fuckin guy. *Whoa, was just perusing the Goggles, the orgin of the name Pantoliano, it's pretty interesting... Pants are funny? Yeah.

mayhem74

I support this.

Scott Handsome

Just a heads-up for you guys for 3x04, there is a scene where a pretty violent sexual assault happens. It's not too graphic in terms of what is shown but it is pretty intense and comes out of nowhere. I've noticed some other channels on YouTube have gotten a heads-up before that episode and I haven't seen anyone else mention it here yet, figured a warning would be good since a lot of people can find it triggering. It is a very important scene/episode though for the show overall.

Donna Castellano

Joe Pantoliano (playing Ralphie Cifaretto on the show) is from Hoboken, New Jersey. Bill Burr is from Canton, Massachusetts, a town not far from Boston. I'm kind of dreading next week. 3x04 is an episode I've only seen twice of this series. I regularly skip it on my rewatches. The only times I've seen it are when it first aired and when TBR Schmitt and his wife, Sam, watched The Sopranos. Even then, I debated skipping their reaction but I knew I had to see how they handled the subject matter.

Flora Smith

Agreed. A love to hate character sure, but she’s a comedy gold mine

Emily Rose

I want to give you guys a trigger warning about 3x4 but I’m not sure if that’s spoilers

Donna Castellano

I love Janice too, for all the drama she causes. It helps that she was fairly friendly with James Ganfolfini before she was cast in the series. It definitely shows in how well they play off each other. I think that bit in the basement where Tony noogies Janice was an adlib by Ganfolfini. When they cut to another shot, you see Aida Tuturro trying not to laugh. Ganfolfini was notorious for doing crazy stuff during takes. The stories Lorraine Bracco tells about him mooning her when shooting their therapy scenes 😳.

LSTER

Why was he born handsome instead of rich?

LSTER

I can't imagine the Sopranos without Janice, she is one of my favourite characters.

Hank Scorpio

Yeah its a pretty tough watch. Its one of the few scenes I dont mind people giving a warning/spoiler.

REDR58

Good advice!

How, and why, Livia appeared after the actors death: 02/06/2002 - Updated 05:21 PM ET Late 'Sopranos' actress virtually returns to show With the help of editing technology, actress Nancy Marchand will return for the season premiere of 'The Sopranos' Sunday, nearly a year after her death. NEW YORK (AP) — Sure, mob matriarch Livia Soprano is pure manipulative evil. But is she manipulative — and powerful — enough to come back from the dead? It may seem that way to viewers watching this Sunday's two-hour season premiere of The Sopranos. Producers of the HBO series used tape editing and computer technology to craft a scene with Livia Soprano talking to her son, Tony, even though actress Nancy Marchand died last June before filming for the new season began. Despite somewhat stilted dialogue, the startling scene is realistic enough that a viewer unaware of Marchand's death may not realize that it's computer-generated. "I felt it was necessary for Livia to appear," said David Chase, the show's creator. It was crucial to convey her unloving nature up to the very end so viewers could understand Tony's reaction to her death, he said. The scene — don't read these two paragraphs if you want to be surprised — features Tony bringing books on tape to his unappreciative mother and trying to convince her to lie to authorities about stolen airline tickets he had procured for her. After his mother reacts with one last dismissive wave, Tony stalks out of her house. "Do what you want," he says. Later in the episode, Tony is told that his mother died. "Some people have never seen the show before," Chase said. "And for those people, they would say, 'what's this guy's problem with his mother?' " Now, that's really a long story. Presenting this filmed reminder, however, was a technical challenge that producers attacked by compiling 18 separate clips of previous Marchand appearances on The Sopranos, both outtakes and material used in previous episodes. This collection of phrases and gestures was used in a newly-written scene filmed with actor James Gandolfini addressing a body double for Marchand, said Michael Miller, a partner in Rhinoceros Visual Effects and Design. Using computer screens, Rhinoceros employees inserted Marchand's head on top of the body double on each single frame of the film — more than 8,000 frames for a scene that lasted just over 90 seconds, Miller said. "They couldn't have done the episode without this," Miller said. "It would have been, 'let's make her die off camera,' like they do for a soap opera. That would have been horrible." The attention to detail is such that when a housekeeper walks between Livia Soprano and a sun-filled window, a shadow briefly passes over Marchand's face. It took a staff of four people about two weeks to do all the work, he said. The effect cost about $250,000, although Rhino cut its fee in half in hopes of getting publicity. Miller said he enjoyed sitting in a recent screening of the episode and seeing the audience's bewilderment. "I felt it in the theater," he said. "People didn't know what to expect. They didn't know what they were looking at. That's her — but she's not even there? How did they do that?" https://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/news/2001-02-28-sopranos.htm

Episode 2 Proshai, Livushka George, Alabama 3 released “Woke up this Morning” in 1997, years before the show premiered. And as far as being associated with “The Sopranos” (2025 interview): * * * * * Ria: I’m a massive blues fan myself and your hit classic Woke Up This Morning had that Howlin Wolf sample on there? Rob: Yes, Howlin Wolf sample on it, Muddy Waters, we’ve got four blues samples on it which at the time cost us an arm and a leg. Because I wanted to honour the blues players but then I realised they didn’t even own the copyright. It was owned by Japanese bureaucrats - consortium of Sony or something y’know what I mean. You got to be careful... Ria: And it ended up being such a smash hit! Because the song was used in The Sopranos, do you feel like its meaning was perhaps overshadowed by its association with the show? Rob: Maybe. I spoke to David Chase, the writer, and said he really liked the line, “I woke up this morning and got myself a gun, mama always said you’d be the chosen one” and in The Sopranos there’s a lot of father-mother hostility and kind of weird love between Tony and his mum. So, for David Chase, it made perfect sense for him. Don’t forget we weren’t even credited for The Sopranos, so people didn’t even know who did it. For many years people thought Leonard Cohen had done it. So I’ve never seen it as clouding the issue or not. I just think it adds another element of interest to the song because some people think I wrote it specifically for The Sopranos and it was picked up. I wrote it like eight years before that, so that’s quite interesting. It was a song about female empowerment and turned into a gangster anthem. Ria: The show’s getting popular again. Do you feel like you’re getting a resurgence because it’s everywhere at the moment? Rob: Well, Covid was really good for Alabama 3 because The Sopranos boxset was one of the most watched box-sets, so we were in people’s homes. They couldn’t even leave their homes and had to listen to it! But yeah, I'm really proud to be associated with a show of that calibre - it’s not hurt us at all. * * * * * https://leftlion.co.uk/features/2025/04/interview-alabama-3-rob-spragg-the-sopranos/ Speaking of racism, “Uncle Ben’s” rice is now called “Ben’s Original.” One thing I don’t like about funeral homes is the weird, sickly-looking, rose-colored lights by the casket. The movie that Tony is watching throughout is "The Public Enemy" (1931) directed by by William A. Wellman, starring James Cagney and you can watch a VHS-sourced copy of it here: https://archive.org/details/full-vhs-the-public-enemy-1931-20th-century-fox-video-1982-vhs

He also plays Ben Urich in the 2003 Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.

MacGuffinStuff

The mark of a truly great character actor is being somehow the same face, and even the same accent, but a completely different character. Very few can do it. Gary Oldman is the most accomplished (not fair, he does different accents), but Joey Pants is up there.

MacGuffinStuff

Joey Pants is also Mi Tocayo (that's Mexican slang for someone with your same first name, Jose, Giuseppe, Pepe, Chepito, it's all Joe or Joey basically), thus, George is Tocayo with Jorge, Simone is just ¡Simón!, which is Mexican slang for Hell Yes Tocaya 🤘

Snuggelbum

he never had the makings of a varsity athlete

Snuggelbum

i just got a 2016 flashback. it's very very traumatic.

Angela D. Mitchell

Yay, Sopranos is back! (Although I loved the ST reactions too.) George, I don't see why the band A3/Alabama 3 would be upset that their song is synonymous with "The Sopranos" -- it remains hugely famous, sending people in search of their other music, and made them a boatload of money. I'm a former band publicist, and as Simone points out, so many bands are happy for even one single moment -- they don't have the luxury of complaining about a song being "too famous," they're just grateful it was heard at all. Although it would probably give you a chuckle to know that Glenn Hansard (who won an Oscar for the beautiful duet "Falling Slowly" from the movie "Once") did visibly become tired of singing it, and he made fun of it a little when I saw him in person about 10 years back. I also remember Joan Osborne singing "What if God was One of Us" sarcastically at one of her shows too, so it does happen. Speaking of music, the "Peter Gunn Theme/Every Breath You Take" mashup is one of my absolute favorite sequences from any show. So cleverly done, and it works so well! I actually really liked that the show is so matter-of-fact that Tony's a racist. It's realistic to the character and is a nice reminder that while it's easy for us to care about Tony because we are so close to him via the show, he's still total garbage as a human being. It was great to see Peter Riegert, who you guys recognized from Animal House, but who to me will always be the lovable oil executive from "Local Hero" and the Pickle Man from "Crossing Delancey." Meanwhile, they needed the final scene with Livia because it introduced Svetlana and directly calls back the RICO case and airplane ticket. Writer/showrunner David Chase felt that the conversation was essential so they spent $250,000 on the CGI. I don't really get why this is such a huge deal -- they did the best they could with the CGI, and it's not like it hadn't been done before, most notably with Oliver Reed in Gladiator (which was what directly inspired David Chase here). So I have to disagree with you guys on this one -- it was essential to the story and wasn't presented as being disrespectful to the actress at all, but rather giving her her final moment on film. Meanwhile, yep, "Public Enemy" is a real movie -- a classic mob drama, and Jimmy Cagney was fantastic in it, playing a violent thug whose most famous line is, "Top of the world, Ma!" So the mommy issues fit right in with Tony's loss and issues with his mother. Such a brilliant choice for subtext. (On a side note, James Cagney was amazing -- he could play brutal thugs, sensitive poets, and he won an Oscar for singing and dancing superbly in "Yankee Doodle Dandy.") I hate Janice too, but I do think Aida Turturro is terrific in the role. And she's a horrible person in a way that's sort of ironic because she's awful in a different way than Tony is awful, etc. I can't believe you almost didn't recognize Joey Pantoliano! The guy's such a legend as a character actor -- he's been in everything! Risky Business, The Goonies, The Matrix, Bound, The Fugitive, La Bamba, Memento, Three of Hearts, dozens of others. He's terrific as Ralphie.

newhastings

Decent chance they’ve already recorded that episode. One of the best episode endings in the whole series but its not fun at all to rewatch

Crew Glove

Oh, ye idealists. You're right, they won't CGI a dead actor's head for a scene. Nowadays, they'll just AI the dead actor whole. Which is worse?

Haye Zeus

I can’t believe an italian mobster from new jersey is also a racist. It’s unthinkable. 😱

Matt O'Keefe

I am impressed that Simone recognized Peter Riegert from Animal House even they were decades apart.

Me too. To my endless joy, they're both usually pretty bad at recognizing people if their hair is slightly different. 😂

I had to rewind 6 or 7 times to figure out what they were even reacting to. Quite the observant one, I am.

Angzarr

How about Mr. Inbetween as a replacement crime show?

Stan the Man

George is going to have to get over his Janice hate or he is going to have a really bad time. Also, who skips over scenes for shows they’ve never seen? You are watching a piece of art and storytelling. That’s bad manners.

blerbaberpaterb

.......what does that even mean......? he has to get over a character thats designed to be hated...... hes suppose to what, pretend to not notice janice now......? isnt the whole point of reactions to hear their genuine thoughts.....? .......why not you have to get over other people can dislike things or youre going to have a really bad time......?......you know what is bad manners......? saying what some one does on their own time in private as bad manners when it affects 0 other people.......

blerbaberpaterb

.......i dont think they were surprised that he WAS racist....... i think they were surprised at the tirade coming so out of no where.......

blerbaberpaterb

.....i think shes enjoyable in a trashy guest on dr phil kind of way..... but its very valid to find dr phil and his guests too trashy to endure......

blerbaberpaterb

..... i thought she was shocked at the sudden barrage of it rather than a character IS racist.....

Haye Zeus

I mean again, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. But i’m just making fun of the shock reaction. I think it is adorable

blerbaberpaterb

...... shouldnt it though....? being shocked at hearing a barrage of racial tirade should be shocking right in it self...... cause its a terrible thing to hear..... like if i turn on a SAW movie im not surprised that it will eventually have gory sequences but when it comes up im still going to be shocked and surprised by it...... cause its unpleasant...... if i feel nothing at the sight of it, or at the site of a lot of racist shit being said..... that says more about me..... ...... not to mention.....just like a gory sequence in a horror movie.....that tirade was meant to be shocking to the character and to the audience.....for him to fly off suddenly......

Haye Zeus

I’m just joking dude. It’s not that serious. I just thought it was funny how they reacted. That’s all.

Paulo Souza

The CGI is bad because it is old and c'mon, it's 2000's TV

Ketzalborne

We got Simone reacting-while standing-up before GTA6 😧

JHaze

they just watched animal house so makes sense

Matt O'Keefe

I know but it is impressive since I do not know how much she has seen him outside of Animal House.

John Miller

If you have a water heater, you absolutely need a cutoff valve. They can put a pan under the water heater with a float that, if water starts to fill the pan, it cuts off the water supply to the heater. The part literally costs 5 bucks. If you don't have one, get it.

Stan the Man

What does that mean? It means if he hates a character that much either he gets over it or he’s going to have a bad time with the show. That’s fairly self explanatory. If you don’t like one of the characters to the point where you complain every time that character speaks, maybe you aren’t going to enjoy the show. And what is this “doesn’t affect other people” non sense. Why does it have to affect anyone? Skipping over scenes in movies or shows you haven’t seen is bad viewing manners. I’m not saying he should arrested. Relax. When partaking in the experience of engaging with “art” like film or television, there’s a “good way” and, alternatively, a “not good way”. The people who make these shows and films often put everything they have into them. Not skipping over the story they are telling is the least we can do. Or Paying attention and not gawking at your phone is the least we can do. That’s not asking a whole lot. Why bother even watching? It’s like listening to Mozart(or whoever) for the first time and skipping over sections, that’s just rude. Sure no one is affected. No crime is committed. That doesn’t mean I can’t say it’s bad form in my opinion. There are viewing habits people have that can be considered bad form. Is it a big deal? Am I going to lose sleep over it? Is it really important in the grand scheme of things? No. Of course not.

Stan the Man

Imagine watching the show back in the day before dvrs and being able to rewind unless u taped it on VHS. That was my experience watching this episode with a group of people. I was like “holy crap! Did anyone else see that!? Big pussy just showed up the mirror! Like a ghost” and no one else saw it. Everyone said I was full of it. Seeing things. I couldn’t prove them wrong until it either re aired or was released on DVD lol.

Hi Stan, George here. Since this back and forth is specifically about me, I am going to jump in and clarify a few things, rather than letting assumptions get out of hand. 1. I do not, as of now, enjoy the character Janice. I understand she is meant to be mean spirited and unpleasant, but she simply isnt a character I enjoy. Maybe other things will happen down the road that changes my mind, but I simply find her tiresome- and that isnt something I can just turn off. 2. I am however, able to separate a single character from a show. She isnt all there is in the show. She is not the main character. She isnt even the main antagonist. I dont have to like everything about a show to enjoy a show. I have never enjoyed Denethor showing up in LOTRs and its still my favorite trilogy of all time. I am able to dislike elements of something while still enjoying the whole thing, i cannot speak for others but that is the case for me. 3. I stand by what I said, that if I was watching the show by myself on my own time, her scenes would be something I skip. I understand you find it disagreeable, but my own way of consuming something on my own time affects just me. I will not apologize for it or stop doing it should I feel the need arises. I have only so much time each day, I find it unnecessary to subject myself to things I find unpleasant, again, that is just me and I speak only for myself. I do not judge or insist this on anyone else, people can do whatever they want in their own lives. You do not have to agree with me, you do not even have to like me, but to put it bluntly, i do not care what others think of my personal private tv show watching habits. 4. Now, regarding Janice and my reactions to her. I am not going to start pretending I like her, or that she no longer bothers me as a character unless the show itself makes that change. That being said, I have no problem with simply talking about her less in the future. Though next weeks episodes have already been recorded prior to this, so should you find my discussion of her unpleasant, feel free to skip forward. Cheers.

Stan the Man

George. You are free to not like any character you want. You not liking a character doesn’t really bother me at all and I didn’t meant to give the impression it did. But since this is a comment section I thought I’d comment on how you’ve reacted to the character. I didn’t know if you guys read these comments or have mods reads them but my comment wasn’t meant as a criticism of how you are experiencing the show, more of a commentary on how I see your experience. But no I don’t want you to change or edit or censor any feelings you have. I should’ve worded what I said to say “I hope George can get over his dislike of the character or he may not enjoy blah blah blah”. So please don’t change anything you are doing. Keep being you. Keep drinking from that awesome giant mug that makes me laugh everytime it makes a cameo appearance. However… Please don’t skip over scenes. Yes how you consume things on your own time affects just you. But it’s still bad form in my opinion. It’s one thing if you’ve seen something and understand how it affects the narrative. I say this as someone who works in the field you are skipping. There’s many things people do that doesn’t affect others but is still bad manners, rude, disagreeable etc. Picking your nose and eating it? Farting in a wine glass and sniffing the contents within? Critiquing how other people do things that has no bearing or business on anyone else? Uh wait. Scratch that last one. Ok. Now what was I saying? Oh, right. Stay outa my booze!

Richard C

I don't think you understand Simone. We want it to happen! We know it will sound... like how it sounds. That's the amazing part. Please, we need this. =) Don't say "if". We need this to happen. It will be one hell of an intro!

blerbaberpaterb

.....from their most recent soporanos post i just want to say....thanks Stan and others like you for ruining everyone else's enjoyment.... most of us actually like and want their honest reactions and hear their thoughts.....not curated to complainers like you.....most of us are mature enough to handle differing opinions.......

Stan the Man

What the hell lol I literally said I don’t want anything changed or any opinions not shared. How does me saying “if George continues to hate Janice he’s going to have a bad time with the show” turn into whatever garbage you’ve concocted here? Do you see me anywhere saying he’s wrong for not liking Janice? Or that I don’t like that he doesn’t like Janice? No. What planet do you live on where when someone says something like “you might not enjoy this” does it translate to “stop sharing your opinion”. This is a reaction channel. Comments are going to be directed at how we perceive the persons reaction. If you can’t handle that or don’t like it, I don’t know what to tell you. But whatever non sense you are accusing me of that resulted in George deciding to do things differently, I state very plainly I am personally not for censoring anything.
