As they should.

Icarius

As they should

Brandon

I'm watching the Japanese VA this time around, but the dub really is one of the best, along with Ghost in the Shell: SAC IMO.

Monica Alarcon

Don't You dare mute the intro music in this one!! Please...

Ross E Bailey

It’s *so hard* to hear George refer to it as an “older anime”…

Matthew Richson

Well it is isn’t it? At this point anything from the 90’s is older anime.

Icarius

Please don't let anyone tell you to squeeze the movie in the middle of the series. Yes, chronologicly it takes place in there, but it serves NO purpose to shove a 2 hour movie into a series of 20 minute vignettes, there's no continuity that matters. The movie was written, made & released ~2 years after the show ended for an audience that had seen the end. The purpose of the movie was to be one last adventure (and, a bunch of between-the-lines stuff)

Matthew Richson

I literally can not watch this anime any other way, that’s how good this is. Even the people behind the anime favor the English dub.

steezo jckson

so glad you guys picked dubbed for this one. another anime with an amazing dub if you ever get to it is fmab.

Ca$hWednesday

The dub in this case is the correct choice. The voice cast is excellent. The creator himself praises it.

Matthew Richson

This was one of my first anime’s ever, what a work of art. Steve Blum as Spike is nothing short of iconic.

Brandon

I'm glad to see you guys getting started on your Bebop journey. I watch a lot less anime than I used to (with the exception of all things Gundam), but I tend to revisit this series every couple years. It's one of those shows where the title seems really dumb, at least until you start watching it. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here, but the movie takes place in between episodes 22 and 23. It was produced after the series was finished. IMO it works best to see it before watching the end of the series. Edit: Bebop is a style of jazz, not a dance. It's meant to be technically proficient music and it was created by jazz musicians who wanted the audience to pay attention to the performance and not dance to it at all.

Brandon

Personally I always watch the movie before I finish the series. It just makes the most sense to me.

Icarius

Maybe now that you know the ending. But on a first viewing, it KILLS the pacing, certainly the intended pacing.

starstreak0

Glad they have the sub up

Brandon

I just don't agree. It's a feature length episode that fits in perfectly. It would only kill the pace if the movie sucked, but it's great.

blerbaberpaterb

......they've always had both sub and dub for every anime they do.... It's on their site.....

your local cryptid

yay! also yes, Firefly isn't exactly subtle with how much inspiration it took from Cowboy Bebop. even the logos on the ships are similar and both written in Papyrus

Matthew Richson

It’s not a movie that’s easy to find it seems.

Ross E Bailey

It’s relative. I’m in my 60’s…to me Bebop is still relatively new compared to the anime I knew in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s…

Ross E Bailey

Personally I’m hoping they can follow-up with The Big O for that double Steve Blum dopamine hit…

OfficiallyGames

Ah Dub, personally not a fan of Dubs as I belive media should be consumed with their original audio/dub as that was how it was originally made and intended to be consumed BUT always willing to try english dubs that do get praise (such as Death Notes dub I throughly enjoyed). Heard good things about the Cowboy Bebop dub so definitelly willing to try it and enjoy watching along with you both.

Leonard

Guys, you need to learn about the genre of the "space western". Its actually really very common and mainstream :D

Brandon

That might be a streaming availability thing, since it looks like it can be readily bought on disk on Amazon. I have a Hong Kong bootleg from before it was officially released in North America as well as the official North American DVD and Blu Ray copies, so I'm good to go. 😅

Stanley Etienne

Now you'll know which show inspired Firefly

Hatty Time

So this show did not do well in Japan but when it came to the West and dubbed, it blew up on Adult Swim. (Edit) to add more, specifically Japan's broadcasting made it difficult to air in its awkward timeslot. It was generally given good praise in Japan, but it doesn't have the type of legacy in Japan you'd see here in the west.

Jobbe Smit

George was clearly thinking about the other show set in this universe, the criminally undervalued Space Dandy. As for best dub, Black Lagoon gives it a run for it's money but you're probably right.

The Real Andrew Kim

Might be one of the best dubs, but all dubs are bad in the fact that you are always trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. We might not understand Japanese and for Japanese people, anime VA is not natural sounding either but I feel the emotional tones of the voices as well as cultural sayings match much better with the original voice recordings. Also there have been other channels that have reacted to this and almost all of them use the dub so it would be nice for you guys to do the Japanese ver while recording. Thank You!

The Real Andrew Kim

Not sure how Canadian TV works and not sure if you got this up there but I am also curious if you guys ever watched Toonami or adult swim on the Cartoon Network in the late 90s early 2000s? That is the main way that anime got popularized in the US was through the afterschool and late night anime hours on this cable channel. Alot of animes got known this way including DBZ, Yu Yu Hakasho, Inuyasha and of course Cowboy Bebop.

The Real Andrew Kim

The other issue I have with dubs is that there is a culture of changing lines and meaning in anime dub industry. Sometimes to the point where the dub has not relation to the japanese translation so thats another thing to keep in mind.

Brandon

I've heard that most dub actors are directed to imitate the same style and intensity used by Japanese VAs. So there's a weird disconnect because Japanese acting has a different style altogether than English. For example, watching any JoJo series in English is a weird head trip. With dubs they have to re-word things to match the mouth movements and so you end up with native English speaking VAs wording things in ways that just aren't normal for fluent English speakers.

The Real Andrew Kim

This also has my all time favorite music not only as a soundtrack but just as music that I listen to on a regular basis. I listen to at least one piece of Cowboy Bebop music couple times a week still for the past 25 years. I recommend listening to the full version which has a full minute long sax solo that is amazing. Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts just re-recorded and released a video of a new extended version of the song with multiple solos on youtube last month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d75ov4HvRrM

Brandon

The sync was a bit off in the "sync with your own copy" version. In episode 1 they react to seeing that the preggo belly was just hiding the Red Eye stash nearly 10 seconds after it happened. I'm about to start episode 2, so I don't know if it's an issue with all of the episodes yet.

VisualHigh

"All dubs are bad" is utter nonsense. There are plenty of fantastic dubs and if you don't speak Japanese you're missing a lot of subtext in the performance anyway. You even mentioned emotional tones which are far easier to pick up on in a language you actually speak. Sub elitists are frankly exhausting becuase they feel the need to grand stand every time someone even mentions a dub.

Icarius

It really doesn't, it absolutely kills the pacing. And can you point to any reason why it needs to be between 22&23 and not anywhere from 10-23? I know the reason, but do you? It's the stupidest thing that doesn't affect anything and no one would notice unless told.

Cartoons ReAct

yeah, I think you had to press start as soon as they say it and don't care about the background images...as I noticed when I pressed start on mine it take some seconds for the opening to show up but theirs was instantly so it might have got cut off by accident

Cartoons ReAct

There is one procedural anime I can think of, and I remember really liking it...is called You are Under Arrest, is a manga from the 80s...early 90s and anime from late 90s to late 2000s

Jose Robles

If I remember correctly, this anime has 2 sister series, Samurai Champloo, that is great, and a very unlike it one.... , Carol and Tuesday that is basically a talent show on Mars, it has some very funny moments.

Cinebinge

It turns out on crunchyroll where the files are from, the dub and sub versions have different start. The sub version is missing the Sunrise logo animation that dubs have. Only just realized that. Will fix soon when I get home.

Icarius

It is good... as a cinematic experience. Movies and TV episodes are fundamentally structured differently, and the 2 hour runtime clashes heavily with the brisk pace the show establishes. It was never made to be viewed that way, Watanabe has never said to watch it that way, the plot doesn't lend itself to the series in any way. But the villain does serve a very particular purpose AFTER the ending - as another foil for Spike once you know how those events have played out.

REDR58

That's where I first saw Bebop, Cartoon Network when they first started showing it on Adult Swim. I had no idea of its existence until a friend showed it to me. It premiered there in September 2001 but I don't think I saw it until early the next year.

The Real Andrew Kim

I am not saying they shouldn't exist because of the points you are making which I agree, but if we are talking about authenticity and I know George at least prefers media to be presented as intended then the sub will always be superior. I am not one of those people who will die on that hill and sorry that you find it exhausting, but realize that by "bad" i mean "not ideal". Think of it this way, I understand if people prefer dubs but I don't think you can ever make the argument that it is "better" or "authentic" over the sub....except for maybe Ghost Stories :P

REDR58

When this was first on US TV I don't think there was an original language option. I never heard it until years later when I got the DVDs and then Blu-ray discs.

REDR58

When I re-watch, I watch the movie between 22 and 23. First viewing, movie didn't even exist.

REDR58

Quarter of a century. Time fuckin' flies.

REDR58

It was just yesterday!

DwarfsRBest

This is the most excited I've been for a reaction since I joined the channel

Brandon

VisualHigh, I did mention in another comment that the Bebop dub and Ghost in the Shell: SAC are both great. Generally speaking, I just prefer the subs. Same with any live action foreign film.

Brandon

I was able to sync up episode 3 along with you sounding out the main theme. 😅

Brandon

Like I said before, it would only kill the pacing of the series if the movie was terrible, but it doesn't because the movie is great. "Killing the pacing" is entirely your interpretation. And yeah, technically they could watch it after episode 10, or episode 16 or anything else before episode 24. I'm simply not going into details about the ending of the series since they read these comments, you dig?. Taking place in between 22 and 23 is what the creators have always said. So that's when I choose to watch the movie whenever I rewatch Bebop. Is that OK with you, cowpoke? 🤠 Personally, when G&S watch the movie is completely up to them. I'm only talking about my own preference here and I'm fine with whatever they do.

The Real Andrew Kim

Spike's fighting style is based on Bruce Lee's martial art he created called Jeet Kun Do

Stephanie Bedworth

An ex of mine convinced me to watch this show over twenty years ago. It was the one good thing I got out of that relationship.

Icarius

The reason is because Samurai Musashi walks through the background - it affects nothing 😜

The Real Andrew Kim

Also I agree this is one of the best dubs and thats mainly cuz the style and the material are very different than most animes in that it does not rely on cliched anime-ism tropes and is not as based in Japanese culture as most other animes. The universe in cowboy bebop literally is a multicultural diverse future with inspirations from all different real world cultures so it makes sense to have dubs for characters who are not japanese to speak with english with an accent cuz that fits our ears. this is why it works so well I think, but even in cowboy bebop there are things like Ed's little cutesy lines and stuff that work better in Japanese cuz the humor and tone is rooted from the original language.

Julian G

I'm so happy they chose the dub for this! I prefer sub for almost every other anime, EXCEPT for Cowboy Bebop. Perfect English dub, for me.

Brandon

In Canada we used to have Teletoon, which would air a lot of the same anime and other shows from Cartoon Network in the US. I don't watch cable TV anymore, but I think the Teletoon name is defunct and it's called 'Cartoon Network Canada' now.

Tangerra

I would say that it’s best to assume Jet and Spike know nothing at any given point in time. They’re just not very observant.

Carlos

Bebop, Samurai Champloo,, Cyberpunk, and Fullmetal Alchemist are the only anime I prefer people react to dubbed. Bebop and FMA because they're so iconic. Champloo cause it's a spiritual successor to Bebop. Edgerunners kinda just cause the game's default language is english but I'm not as picky with that one.

Brandon

Simone: 'Honky Tonk Women' is the name of a Rolling Stones song. The episode titles either come from the names of classic songs, albums, or are puns based on songs and different genres of music.

Donna Castellano

I always thought Outlaw Star inspired Firefly.

Donna Castellano

Oh good. I was disappointed when everyone was glad they did the dub. I cannot stand Faye's voice in the dub, so it's nice to know the sub is available.

djKENTO

Already warned George it is meant to be watched at the end

djKENTO

Anyone else feel like the reactions are out of sync from the show’s actions?

Cinebinge

yeah turns out that on crunchyroll where the files are from, the dub and sub versions have different starts. The sub version is missing the Sunrise logo animation that dubs have- which is the file used in the sync with versions. fixing it now.

djKENTO

Okay. Thanks homie.

gfixler

Wow, I'm excited to get to see this again. 24 years ago I moved to California to look for work, and stayed on my friend's couch, and he was into anime at the time, and wanted me to see this. I loved it. Good memories of getting into some fun shows (this, a bunch of Ghibli, Evangelion, Mr. Show, Kung Pow and Shaolin Soccer...), hanging out with a friend, and starting my career.

VisualHigh

Fair enough, it was mainly the wording of your original comment that irked me along with my general experience with sub elitists in general. I by no means fault anyone for having a preference one way or the other but I think blanket statements can often be pretty disrespectful to English VA's who often do a very good job, especially in modern anime. Generally I will start with English first as I prefer my visual attention to be focused on the art and not the text but will switch to the sub if I find the dub to be lacking (or distracting). It honestly ends up about 50/50 as to which one I end up watching.

Matthew Richson

VisualHigh, it’s the same with me. I accept subs when there’s all there is. But if I find something that I enjoy the performances or voice direction, I’ll watch the dub. Setting also plays a factor. Such as in the case here. On top of the quality.

REDR58

I watched it by pausing the show for about a 10 seconds after starting from the opening titles.

REDR58

Session 1 Asteroid Blues Simone, going in blind to something like this is the best way to go in! Session 2 Stray Dog Strut You can see the atmosphere generators as they enter the crater on Mars The lady said at the pet store you can eat the dog! The license plate of dog scanning truck is “NC-1702” which is almost NCC-1701. Remember Spike said that he was born on Mars. Session 3 Honky Tonk Women Speaking of the music, there are numerable releases and collections of the soundtrack and music from the show. George, we do know something about Spike at this point. He said he was killed before by a woman…

p0sthum4n

I have never been able to get into anime. Every time I've tried I just hit a wall. There's always something about it that grates on me. Cyberpunk Edgerunners is the only one I've seen through to completion. I did get about halfway through Cowboy Bebop once before though and I'm gonna give it another shot with you guys.

Thall

I mean, personally, I love the dub of Konosuba more, but it's amazing in Cowboy Bebop! To be fair, there is no anime in the world that beats the Ghost Stories dub, but that is a an entire legend anyway.

funky weapon

for me it's the standing around looking shocked and making strained noises like you need to take a shit but can't. for some reason I loved DBZ as a kid, though. between Cowboy Bebop and Attack on Titan (I keep hearing it's great), I'm gonna give the genre an honest shot.

Tom Hess

Question for the people who know this show inside and out: I've never watched Cowboy Bebop, but I'm interested to start. What are the arguments in favor of the English dub? Do people watch it in English simply because a lot of care has been put into it? My default intuition is always to watch anime in its original language... which in this case would be Japanese, right?

Tom Hess

You should try a little bit of everything. Saying "I don't like anime" is like saying "I don't like Hollywood cinema". There's so much choice and so many different art styles, you're bound to find something you like sooner or later.

Major Peril

Man, every time I watch these episodes I am so thrilled to hear that opening song “Tank” by Yoko Kanno. Such a great intro to the series with that big band brass bebop sound combined with those stylish title animations. The vocal interlude is the kicker for me — “Okay, three, two, one let's jam”… so smooth, so good. Not to demean this opener by any means, but it always reminds me of that jazzy opening track for The Adventures of Jonny Quest (1964-1965) TV series written by Hoyt Curtin. Similar sounds and instrumentation, more spy-jazz lounge-adjacent feel than straight up bebop. Very intense but so cool.

ECTI

Youve unlocked the most annoying part of watching anime, people whining about sub vs. Dub. Just watch stuff in the language its made in, its always better.

REDR58

Gotta link that music! Johnny Quest by Hoyt Curtain: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TNWSGCiBzg Then there's this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uuJULBkHG4

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

By all means if you prefer to watch something in its original language go ahead. My own preference for watching anime dubbed is simply because I feel like I can take in the visuals better, especially for a show as well crafted ‘Bebop’. But I also have plenty of odd rules to watch something subbed, chief among those is when a show feels difficult to seperate from its Japanese culture and context. So I guess a lot of sci-fi or fantasy related anime I’ll prefer to watch dubbed, but more grounded genres, like ‘slice-of-life”, I’ll watch subtitled. But ‘Bebop’ is a relatively short series that benefits from rewatching, so I see less hassle in rewatching it subbed/dubbed if you end up enjoying it.

p0sthum4n

I have tried plenty. No offense, but this is probably close to the 100th time I've read that exact suggestion :)

Sarahnade

They do provide both if you prefer the sub!

Sarahnade

Just speaking for me, subtitles take a bit more work, needing to read and watch at the same time. And for most anime, it's worth it because the English dubs aren't very well done. Translation issues and odd voice acting choices. But in a few exceptions (this one included!) the English voice acting is really fantastic. So it's easier to watch, and also the acting holds up, which is why I prefer dub for this one.

ECTI

Ill watch whatever the uploader is using. Im just so bored of the discussions related to sub/dub. Its literally always superior to watch in the creators intended language. However that doesnt mean you cant prefer dub.

Sarahnade

I meant that Cinebinge provide both. They've got the sub version available on their site.

Tom Hess

Thanks guys. Reading subtitles is as natural as breathing for me, so... Maybe I'll try both the sub and the dub.

djKENTO

The tennis ball thing from the Sunrise logo is from the anime Gundam. It’s like their R2-D2. It’s iconic in Japan so it’s became the whole company’s mascot.

Girthquake23

alright is there some sort of list that shows what shows are next cuz I saw One Piece logo in your anime channel commercial and have been (and will continue to be) patiently waiting for info. If it was explained in anything other than food wars or Frieren, I didn't see it. If it was explained in either of those two, I zoned out. If it will be explained in this, I will not see it

Alex

If they want to watch, they should watch it at the end. I think stuff should be watched in the release order, at least watching the first time.

RogueRN

The theme song is “Tank!” by the Seatbelts. When G&S were taking a stab at a music channel I’d recommended it - it took my down this Jazz rabbit hole, and into some Japanese music as a side diversion :)

REDR58

It helps when proper subtitles are provided for both the original language and the dub. Often I find subtitles that don't quite match the spoken English dub, but in this case, the subtitles from my ripped Blu-rays matches precisely. I always watch a new movie or show, English language or otherwise, with subtitles on the first time through.

djKENTO

I believe he said something along the lines of trying to chase that greatness with all his English dubs since.

Michael Kemmet

New extended version of TANK! on Yokko Kano's YouTube channel.

Michael Kemmet

Bebop is not a dance. It's a specific sub-genre of jazz. It developed as a reaction to the swing era of relatively simplistic jazz dance music. Bebop tends to be faster and is more complex in both rhythmic and tonal difficulty. Altogether, it tends to make it more rewarding to listen to by people well-versed in jazz, but it also makes it less accessible to a casual listener. It also tends to not be danceable to; it's for sitting and listening to carefully. Some bebop pioneers/legends include Charlie Parker(sax), Thelonious Monk(piano), Miles Davis(trumpet), Dexter Gordon(sax), Dizzy Gillespie(trumpet), and Max Roach(drums). To get a taste of top bebop, try Charlie Parker's Ko-Ko, Thelonious Monk's 'Round Midnight, and Miles Davis's Solar. After the bebop era, jazz would transition to cool school/cool jazz.

Steve Mercier

Ba-DA ba-Da ba-Da ba-Da-da-da!!! I think it's time we blow this scene. Get everybody and the stuff together. Okay three, two, one, let's jam!

David

The English isn't a dub. It's the original language, which is why the voice acting is so good. These are the intended characters' voices. The Japanese is the actual dub, because its version came after, due to the success of the original (English) series.

Jason

Please don’t mute the intro theme music! it’s so good!!

Cinebinge

Hi Jason, yep we agree about the music but unfortunately music has its own set of copyright rules, detection bots, and risks. And in an effort to protect the channel we have no choice but to keep it muted.

Cinebinge

Hi Monica, unfortunately music has its own set of copyright rules, detection bots, and risks. And in an effort to protect the channel we have no choice but to keep it muted.

Monica Alarcon

Oh. I understand. No problem then. I'll just play the soundtrack. Highly recommended. You should check it out after you finish the series.

Twiska Brand

If you want a similar style show after this I suggest Black Lagoon.

Jason

Hey no stress, I understand. It’s too bad because the music is just that good. Thanks for the reply

The Real Andrew Kim

I am on the side to watch the movie before the final 2 or 3 episodes since the end of the series is pretty final and one of the best endings for a series

The Real Andrew Kim

I also love the ending theme maybe more so than the intro, Real Folk Blues gets played at least once a week on my spotify

Michael Kemmet

The chip in the 3rd episode was just the key to the decryption AI. But the mobster who had the actual AI itself was the one that got blown up in the climax. We can assume the AI was in his possession and also was destroyed. So now the key on the poker chip is completely worthless. It's like having a key for a $2M supercar that was in an accident and burned up.

The Real Andrew Kim

If you have any understanding of Japanese language and culture I would watch the sub for more natural feeling line deliveries and sayings that are rooted in Japanese humor. But if you have no relation or interest in Japanese culture go ahead and watch the dub.

The Real Andrew Kim

Yes both are available but I would like to see the Cinebingers react to the original version in Japanese. Other channels have done reactions to the dub, so why not do what others havent?

The Real Andrew Kim

I would recommend Baccano which is a not a well known anime but takes place in a roaring 20s/30s setting with similar jazz influences but the real successor would be to watch Samurai Champloo which is by the same creator as Cowboy Bebop and has a Urban Hip Hop theme rather than a Jazz, Blues and Western theme

REDR58

And of course in Honky Tonk Women Charlie Parker was mentioned by Jet in a dream he had.

Trickness McGillicutty

To answer your question George, yes, Abdul Hakim is a play on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Aye Jaye

Just because the English dub technically aired first, doesn't mean it wasn't lip synced to the Japanese audio. It's still a Japanese anime, the Japanese isn't the dub, that's actually ridiculous.

Jacob King

The dub is good but you do lose something of the cultural mash-up by putting it in English. Watanabe is remixing American cinema and music through a Japanese lens and hearing it with a US accent dilutes it. Honky Tonk Women is a Rolling Stones song. It’s thematically appropriate for Spike.

dlpheonix

Cowboy bebop is definitely a contender for best animated show ever. Maybe just show. It is legendary for good reason.

dlpheonix

Both are good its just as far as english dubs go this is a rare gem. Like people say frieren and things are good but this is truly the best english dubbed anime imo

Russell Richardson

Awwww I was hoping to hear the ending music too😭 The real folk Blues inspires extreme emotion!

Ross E Bailey

Haro! From the very first Gundam series in the late 70’s…

Ross E Bailey

It was late 90’s, practically the 2000s…

Ross E Bailey

Bebop was practically the axis on which turned anime production as it was once practiced, and newer production methods with digital ink and paint and CGI. It does indeed look less “clean” and less bright than modern anime…

Hatty Time

Yes, it was Adult Swim's main anime show in its initial anime block release back in the day and stayed on air for years and again when Toonami was revitalized.

Michael Kemmet

A note about the episode titles: They all reference music in some way. Some titles includes a music style/genre. Asteroid BLUES, Stray Dog STRUT, Gateway SHUFFLE. Others are titles of well known songs. Sympathy for the Devil(The Rolling Stones), Toys in the Attic(Aerosmith), Bohemian Rhapsody(Queen). Honky Tonk Women falls into the second category. It's a song by The Rolling Stones. So don't read too much into the plural form.

Michael Kemmet

In general, I prefer to watch anime with subtitles. I'm a fast reader, and my brain has no problem reading each subtitle almost instantly and then listening to the actor's voice to give it emotional context. I know some that read slower don't like subs as much because their eyes end up spending too much time at the bottom of the screen and not enough on the action. So everybody's mileage varies, I will say that, in general, subs are better than dubs. There's just so much that can go wrong in the dub process. Was the initial translation good? Did the localizer do a good job(this is the person/team that translates things like idioms, locations, metaphors, cultural cues, etc.). A poor localization can sink a dub. Then there's the quality of the voice cast. Most of my anime watching was in the late 90s-2000s. Let's be honest, the pool of English voice actors in the anime dubbing industry back then wasn't exactly deep. There were some great VAs, but often not enough to fill out every role. Cowboy Bebop is one of the best dubs out there, and even this one has some really poor acting in some of the bit parts. One benefit in watching subs(if you don't understand the language) is that it tends to hide mediocre acting. If watching subs, it's pretty important to choose the correct subtitle track. Back in the DVD days, there would be two English subtitle tracks for the good productions. One track would be a direct translation of the original Japanese, and the other would be a direct captioning of the English dub. The second would often be indicated with a CC(closed captioning)) or something like it. If listening to the Japanese audio, you want to use the first type of track for the best experience.

Charles

I don't know if it will matter to you guys or how you'd separate them if you are viewing the whole series 3 episodes at a time, but episodes 12 and 13 are a 2 part episode, and the final two episodes are as well. Just letting you know

dys

I don't quite get why you guys cut out the title music on the likes of Cowboy Bebop or TNG for Patreon... I do get that it might be hit by copyright on youtube, but but why cut the audio for patreon?

The Real Andrew Kim

My cutoff for old school vs modern anime is about 2005-2008 when the change over to computer rendering became the standard over hand drawn cells.

The Real Andrew Kim

I mean Star Wars was pretty much the genesis for mainstream space westerns

Chris

Bebop is definitely one of the greatest dubs. I'd rank it at the top with FMA and Yu Yu Hakusho.

REDR58

I think I've found that any anime that involves overly precocious children, or children dominating the story, or children performing magical or superhuman feats, or basically series that center on children or have them as main characters, I completely lose interest.

Holdenk

I can't wait for you to meet Vicious and Radical Edward. This is my all time favorite anime

Holdenk

The dub is one of the best of all time.

Mike Truk

I’ll throw it out there (if it hasn’t already) GOLDEN BOY DUB IS GREAT!!!! and its a short series if they wanted to cover it!!

Terry

Hey 👋🏽. Just would like to say I love yall are one of my favorite anime of all time. Gives me a reason to go back and watch it again. Also I would like if yall not mute the intro on the rest of yall watches for the I don’t need a copy. This is one of the few intros that i never skip. If you can’t it cool too. Thank for all the great videos.

Leonard

Great point. Star Wars got a ton of space western elements.

As a delegate from the Neutral Planet, I don't care in which order you watch the show and movie, nor if you choose the dub or sub.

Skeng

Wait, when did you watch AoT?

Alex Tamayo

this anime is much better in the dub. the jazz and the stories in each episode resonate a lot more in English.

Adam Vialpando

I once heard Cowboy Bebop described as an epilogue for a story we never see and damned if that ain't the truth.

gfixler

When he said that, I fell down and broke my hip.

It depends though on what you mean by *hand-drawn*. Many cels today are still hand-drawn, but not on paper but in a video tablet. And then some of those cels have an additional CG assist for certain movements. And then of course there’s a growing number of shows that use CGI, cel shaded models that mimic the look of traditional anime. There’s a real hodge-lodge of techniques used in today’s anime industry

Jeffrey Mitchell

First 3 episodes are scheduled for release on Monday.

Cowboy Bebop is, unequivocally, a vibe. I wouldn't necessarily call it a procedural, but the core of the show is very episodic. The crazy thing, though, is that... generally speaking... it's like they aren't the main characters of any of these stories so far. Yeah, they get involved in the events, but... in episode 1, they don't have any stakes with Asimov or his gal. Episode 2, outside of being after a big score, they just don't care about Ein being a special dog. Even in episode 3, they get caught up in the whole poker chip/electronic key story... but outside of getting paid and not ending up dead, they really just don't care. It's definitely a weird way for a show to operate, especially when the first episode opens with such a... dramatic moment presumably from Spike's past. On top of that, learning that Jet is a former cop... there are clearly stories that they _are_ part of, they're just not the stories in the episodes we're getting. Just... something to think about.

Personally, the main thing I would strongly recommend against watching until after the end of the series is the special performance of The Real Folk Blues that came out back in 2020 XD

The Dark Unknown

I know its probably too late and you've already recorded the show but please do dub for this one.

Thomas Young

This series got me into jazz.

Levi Curry

If you end up liking this show, you should totally add Black Lagoon to your potential watch list.

funky weapon

pretty sure the reason is because the sync copy is on youtube and even though it's private, they don't want to tug on Superman's cape.

Rainy Days

Imma just put this out there: The full uncut versions... If you dont let us listen to the music with you... CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.

Without a doubt my favorite anime. Granted I've only watched about a dozen, but still my favorite.

Landon DuVall

Speaking of great dubs, if you ever do Fullmetal Alchemist, go with the dub!!!

Anders Thomsen

Cowboy Bebop is an excellent series if you like Jazz...

So old timey slang a honky tonk woman is one with loose morals. (My grandma was described as a honey tonk woman once ... It's not my place to unveil the skeletons in the family closet but) generally they are the type of women that can't be trusted.

Nabikon

Finally not broke enough to subscribe again! Still too broke for shout out tier, but soon... Anyone else watch Cowboy Bebop on og Toonami?

Tangerra

I think it all depends on what you like about the show. But what order you watch it in does inform the elements you prefer, not wrong, but an interesting discussion on your feelings on the piece.

Tangerra

Oh, they’re absolute dumbasses, but they’re lovely.

This show began my obsession with getting my Steve Blum impression perfect. I don’t think it’s too shabby, if I say so myself.

Matrim

While the English dub is great, I’m a little sad you’re missing the experience of Megumi Hayashibara as Fae.

Lars Ickenroth

Love this, but man the Trigun-soundtrack is probably up top for me.
