For more Ti West: The Innkeepers, House of the Devil, Widow's Bay

Dirge Girl

The Director of these, Ti West, directed the sixth episode of Widow's Bay... < nod >

Elisa H.

Do you have things edited on Patreon that aren't on YouTube or is everything on Patreon/your website the unedited versions?

Divinerights

Pretty sure everything is. Other than s1 atla which they lost.

Dani

as a huge fan of X & Pearl, I cannot STAND this movie. Anyone else?

Christina Bee

echoing the Widows Bay recs. 10 eps. maybe a candidate for a short show once this next season of The Sopranos is done??

Jay

I was so excited for this after X and Pearl but I agree. I was very disappointed.

REDR58

Seconded. I just started it myself and it’s great so far.

Zach McBride

I want to Echo Widows Bay recommendation. I watched the first 9 episodes in a weekend. Its a solid pick for a short series after the next season of the sopranos.

For more Sophie Thatcher (makeup girl): Companion, Yellowjackets, Prospect, Heretic

Mastervodo

The director, Elizabeth Debicki, is the gold ruler "Ayesha" in Guardians of the Galaxy, but my favorite role she's been in is in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E", (Also starring Henry Cavill!), which is an underrated spy/action film that I would love to see S&G react to! Also - +1 for hopefully finally watching "St. Elmo's Fire". The movie, not the plasma. Anyone else agree?

Brandon

I love the theme of opposing "cults" in this movie. There's the religious cult run by Maxine's dad. Then there's the Hollywood cult, where the only thing they believe in is success. It's in Maxine's agent's interest to commit brutal murder for her since her star is on the rise. If she hadn't been cast in 'Puritan 2', then maybe he would not have been so keen to help her with Labat, the private detective. The religious cult also commits murder and uses film and television to weaponize its message, so the hypocrisy is palpable. Another similarity is that both cults are powered by money. I love all the references to old Hollywood. The guy in the alley that Maxine turns the tables on was dressed like Buster Keaton. At one point she stubs out a cigarette on the star of Theda Bara, another silent film star. Theda was also the name of Pearl's "pet" gator. Maxine and Pearl both are judged by their parents for their "loose" morals when it comes to sexuality. Pearl was definitely more weird, though. I'm remembering the scarecrow. 😆 It might be a long shot, but I hope you react to some classic Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton silent comedies like "The Gold Rush" or "Steamboat Bill jr." or even some Harold Lloyd like "Safety Last!" or "The Freshman".

TylerNorCal

Agreed, they definitely just winged it imo bc they wanted to make it a trilogy. This one felt half-hearted.

TylerNorCal

I just watched Companion yesterday and was pleasantly surprised, it's def a fun movie.

Stephanie

She was also in the first season of The Night Manager.

Andrew

A lot of this movie was filmed on the Universal backlot. The Psycho house is still a main attraction today on the tours.

Daniasaurus

This one is my second fav behind Pearl. I like X now but when i first watched it I didn't vibe with it. This one and Pearl were ones I loved right off the bat. I just like how fun and cheesy they are. X feels a little pulled back and while I think its really good now it the next two are more my speed.

Daniasaurus

Never heard of this show but with how many people like it I need to check it out!

djKENTO

the Puritan II poster is an homage to The Stepford Wives (1975) poster.

Daniasaurus

I love this movie and Pearl. X is good, but it took me some time to like it. These two I just vibed with right off the bat. I feel like this one didn't take off as much as the others, but also understandable, as it seems to be more divided than the first two.

zona999

This was a big disappointment for me. Far weakest of three.

Simone and George, I love the X trilogy, but we don't need anymore . My mission this year is to get the remainder of the films i need to complete some of my franchise collections . Yesterday, Simone said she'd been writing a script that she'll probably complete. i have a script idea for u. With the success of a couple of Youtuber' films, i knew u were an actress so i sought out stuff by u. I found ur short movie "Split". U should write a 15-30 minute sequel to it. You were incredible in it and i saw lots of promise. It left me wanting more. I'm writing a story that's a paranormal horror. I just can't decide whether i wanted her to be a vampire or Buffy Esque. Also, b4 u deleted ur IG account , i saw a video of u in which i heard u sing and play the guitar. U did a recent video that u played the recorder. Maybe u could write a song and play the guitar in a video. u could use "Split" as inspiration . Something that would play during the end credits. One of the next Youtubers who have a film come out is JesterBell, the female Frodo Baggins . She's writing a script now too. I'd love for yall to do the rest of the Scream films and finish up with Scream 7 at the beginning of Cineween ( or Cinoween) u should use that for spooky season. Scream 8 will most likely be out next year. There's alot of chatter about it already. George , while admittedly games are tons harder to create , i think if u set ur mind to it, u can do it. Also, while self-reflection and becoming aware of things is always a good thing, i've never seen u treat Simone with anything but the utmost respect for her. it can be very hard to sync up ur conversations so u don't talk over each other. I know u look for reality in the movies and i totally get it . I've seen at least 300 bodycam videos and have to cut my brain off about the way film ansd tv screw up police procedure. That's it for now, so Hang Loose and Stay Groovy.

Thall

Good god, I didn't expect or need the scrambled eggs.

Daniel Bjork

Ya’ll should watch Infinity Pool. Get some non-maxine Mia Goth and the type of weird sci-fi horror the whole family can enjoy

Cam

This was definitely a movie alright. Such a huge disappointment from X & Pearl.

Blqbrd

Since we’re getting some newer horror, a movie y’all absolutely need to watch at some point is Bodies Bodies Bodies

Blqbrd

Heretic was such a fun watch

Jon Rob

For some reason I think Simone and George would really love watching GLOW. Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling is an under-rated gem.

Nemo-the-Red

This is my favorite. Love the other 2, 80s slasher horror is just my personal jam

funky weapon

this one is just pure fun. I think if you're familiar with 80s B-grade slashers (stuff like Sleepaway Camp, Maniac Cop, Chopping Mall) you'll get a lot more out of it. funnily enough, everything George called out as Tarantino-inspired is actually ☝️🤓 from the more exploitative b-grade slashers of the the 80s. If you guys liked this one, you might want to explore that genre a bit. the low-budget horror scene has always been a gift that keeps on giving.

Data Cable

1:08:23 The doors she's running out of are those of the courthouse on the Courthouse Square backlot, used perhaps most famously in Back to the Future. (Though at the time, it had a different arrangement of sidewalks in front of it.)

REDR58

The opening scene of the studio stage building doors opening is reminiscent of the barn doors opening in the first 2 movies. The song playing over the opening credits by ZZ Top is “Gimme all Your Lovin’” and here is the (annoyingly upscaled to “HD”) music video that used to play a lot on MTV back in the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae829mFAGGE At 14:55 into your reaction (not the movie itself) when “Casting by Jessica Kelly” appears during the opening credits, there is a brief shot of Twisted Sister lead singer Dee Snider giving testimony in September 1985 before the United States Senate Commerce Committee concerning song lyric censorship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OceijOEVqU Once again Mia Goth is a producer for this movie. After the first scene with video store, the song “Obsession” by Animotion plays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIs5StN8J-0 I was very happy to see that Simone recognized the song “St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)” by John Parr. It is from the soundtrack to the movie of the same name from 1985. There are a few scenes from the movie in the music video, but nothing spoilery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx7vNdAb5e4 Maxine drops a cigarette on the Hollywood Walk of Fame star for Theda Bara. Bara was Hollywood’s first big sex symbol and the alligator in “Pearl” was named for her: https://screenrant.com/maxxxine-theda-bara-walk-of-fame-star-pearl-connection/ The “For a good time call” phone number is not a typical fictional “555” number: 213-249-1619. Note that a news report describes the murders as “The Texas Porn Star Massacre,” a clear reference to “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” That unusual rail car on the steeply angled hillside is called a funicular and though the one in the movie was built for filming, such vehicles do exist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR8omlZ0Bbg The ending song “Bette Davis Eyes” that once again Simone happily recognized is by Kim Carnes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPOIS5taqA8 Lots of great songs in this movie!

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

“Slumber Party Massacre” 1 & 2 would be fun ones for this era as well. I also suspect that the fictional director in “Maxxxine” might be a nod/tribute to the women who wrote and directed these particular flicks.

Venusian

Maybe watch some Giallo films eventually?

akaTheBAY-AY-RON

I hate to be that guy who says things like "Saying chai tea is redundant" or "saying ATM machine is redundant" but Simone refering to that bathroom as "a big ass bathroom" is kind of redundant because every bathroom is an ass bathroom, if you think about it.
