I still think about that one scene from this movie introducing me to Evangelion when i was a kid lol Hope you get that on the docket eventually but maybe u need a light show as a break considering AoT and JJK

Forkbeard83

George! Well done on the Trivia Showdown over on Kat's channel. Simone up next, I hope.

Cc Decc

Wow, um...Simone should have been a hand model.

MeetMountain

I always wondered growing up about the people who processed camera film for people. Like how many crude things they have seen. How many developed parasocial relationships like in this movie. Idk. It’s just always seemed like a profession where real creeps can get paid to essentially spy on you. Ha

Robert Cooper

Clark Gregg, before Colson, was largely know to me as playing an FBI SAC on The West Wing. A character that was basically exactly like Colson.

Matt O'Keefe

Connie Nielsen looks different in this to me. I saw this when it came out but I do not remember her in it. Like unrecognizable. Definitely not like in The Devil's Advocate or Gladiator to me. I mean I guess that the point (or one of the points) of an actor is to change look/appearance, but it's like facial structure or something.

Popeye F

You definitely need to watch the Christopher Nolan movie "Insomnia" after this

TheFool

Monsters aren't born, they're made.

Jeff K.

I enjoy the fact that Simone made her joke about people who watch the Simpsons being creepy to tease George… while he’s wearing a Simpsons shirt.

Senec

Aah, a nice wholesome Robin Williams film! Gonna be a good day. 🤐

Cc Decc

Just last movie Simone was saying she had forgotten Independence Day. I'm not sure a movie trivia event is going to favor Simone. :)

Hammond of Texas

This film and Awakenings are my two favorite Robin Williams movies.

MeetMountain

Wow. I looked up Neon Genesis because if Robin Williams liked it then I may like it. So I looked it up and AI said “The Core Themes: The show focuses on psychology, depression, human isolation, and religious symbols.” Knowing that and knowing what ended up being his fate. It’s just another sign.

JR Slander

Im really glad you guys covered this one. I agree with both of you. I love this movie, but I also can only watch it maybe once every 5-10 years. Robin is masterful. To this day, I think he's one of the greatest actors ever.

Jacob Colson

Another fun, not as dark turn for Robin Williams, movie is Death to Smoochy, and I second the one person who suggested Insomnia.

Dwight Scarn

Time to watch Insomnia with Al Pacino and Robin Williams!

Boba Fettuccine

You guys should check out "What Dreams May Come." Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra (the car saleslady from "The Sopranos") are amazing in it.

Lawrence Fair

The black and white movie is The Day the Earth Stood Still from 1951. It’s pretty good and really famous. They did a remake with Keanu Reeves in 2008 that was not really good. The 1951 movie is worth a watch.

Popeye F

Funny. I only knew him from comedies like "The New Adventures of Old Christine" before he played Colson. Didn't watch much of The West Wing

Nathan Jasper

Clark Gregg was a non-agent on When a Stranger Calls 😆

Matt Blanchette

Should watch the Skarsgard version beforehand, though.

Matt Blanchette

This was the picture Robin Williams was making when he guested on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?". No WONDER he needed that release valve! :-o

2026-09-13 17:00 People often think being alone means you're lonely, but it doesn't. You can be in a crowded room and still feel lonely if the one person you care about isn't there. There are people like me who love being alone, and I’m definitely not lonely.
2026-08-16 15:51

Popeye F

You should see her in the series "The Following". She is very different in that series, though her character doesn't arrive until season 2

Carlos H

commenting to show interest in Insomnia

Robert Cooper

I didn't watch that ever. The only comedy I remember him in from the time was a 2 episode stint at the end of Sports Night.

Jon

@Simone, I meant when you where recording/IRL, not the thumbnail. -_- It was the first thing I noticed in the video, and I was like "Oh her hair looks great!"

Jeff K.

And a fun fact, since they've watched Army of Darkness: that's the movie where the phrase Klaatu Barada Nikto originated (the magic words that Ash screws up that leads to the, well, army of darkness rising).

Chad Galloway

The World According To Garp (1982) - one of Robin Williams best, Glenn Close in her film debut and a legendary performance by John Lithgow. The movie adapts John Irving's 1978 novel

Ian Tellam

Good movie. The remake, though, is one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Brandon

The idea of a 9 year old watching Evangelion is wild, so it must be one of those things where the kid just liked the look of the toy without knowing much about it. 😆 I've always quit and never been fired, but I've personally never heard of someone being fired and then having to finish out their week, so that's probably outdated. Any place I ever worked where someone got canned, they had to leave immediately. They even usually do the firing with at least one other manager/supervisor present as a witness. They outnumber the person so they can't dispute how the conversation went if they file a wrongful dismissal complaint. So the manager firing Sy by himself is a little outdated now as well.

REDR58

"Klaatu Barada Nikto" also appears on the wall of the workplace cubicle Alan (Bruce Boxleitner) in the movie "Tron."

REDR58

Gregg is also a screenwriter. He wrote "What Lies Beneath" (2000) and was in "The Usual Suspects" and"We Were Soldiers", both watched here.

Raven Dark

"Fuck" was my immediate translation! LOL

Sporty Taco

I watched this when it first came out. This rewatch was good enough timing to see it a second time. It's a fantastic movie, but once a decade is good enough for me. Death to Smoochy is similarly dark, but much more comedic. Ed Norton has a line that throws back to American History X. If you know, you know.

mpd

Another reason Sy got fired was he was having some problems with his TPS reports

REDR58

I think I last got photos developed in 2002? But we print lots of photos at home via a dedicated photo printer and frame a lot of them as well. Eriq La Salle who plays the main police detective was also in "Logan." He is probably most famous for appearing on the US TV series "E.R." between 1994-2009. The store manager you recognized from Office Space is played by Gary Cole. George, people often buy photos of people they don't know at flea markets and such as a hobby. You can see a lot of that on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/FoundPhotos/ Erin Daniels (Maya) who has been in about a dozen or so movies mostly does TV. She was in the well known series "The L-Word." When I think of "One Hour Photo" the first thing that comes to mind are the small, freestanding photo buildings ("Fotomat" and others) usually found in shopping center parking lots, but they are long out of business: https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/fotomat-old-photos/ The first self-portrait photograph was taken by Robert Cornelius of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in (Edit!) 1839, in the city behind his family's business: https://hiddencityphila.org/2017/09/im-still-here-saving-the-work-of-robert-cornelius/ The police cars seen at the end of the movie are 2001 Pontiac Aztecs, the same kind of car driven by Walter White in "Breaking Bad" but his car is a few years newer.

Data Cable

Ooo, yeah, if Simone could go ahead and recognize Gary Cole, that'd be great, mm'kay?

Chris Bowles

That Malenia shirt is sick Simone!

Jacob Colson

Only Simone would get that F•R•I•E•N•D•S reference! lol

Jacob Colson

"I have a career; what the hell am I doing?"

Jacob Colson

Yes for Death to Smoochy! I really think an official soundtrack should be released!

Jacob Colson

I read somewhere that the red fluid made to look like blood during the nightmare dream sequence was photographic fluid, which, if true is a nice touch!

Michael

What Dreams May Come is a very underrated movie. Great story and Robin is so good in it

Daniel Jones

I hope this encourages other reactors to try this movie, it deserves a lot more love!

Mad C

There are a few short docs on YouTube showing the behind the scenes making of the film, with some of those outtakes of Robin Williams being comedic. Definitely worth watching!

Daniel Jones

No one ever takes a photograph of something they want to forget.

2026-09-05 05:00 If your going to cheat, just leave the camera at home. Also, the hotel room scene is even darker in retrospect when you realize everything he says and does is an echo of how his father abused him.

RickyTicky

Hey, it's Bill Lumburg! Good catch George! "Yeah.... I'm gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday too...." 🤓

Frank

Oh shit. Ya, she's Keanu's "sister" in Devil's Advocate. Legit nearly unrecognizable from this to that, imo. Crazy

cincassette

I think you two would enjoy the Francis Ford Coppola film "The Conversation", with Gene Hackman!

Rob

FYI... "London Drugs was founded by Sam Bass in 1945 as a small drugstore at 800 Main Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. Bass named his drugstore after the English city of London, the seat of the Canadian monarch. I always thought they originated in London, Ontario, which would explain the name. TIL.

Korpse

A good movie makes you ask questions at the end and this one makes you ask A LOT of questions 🤣🙌

simo

Great movie! And great excuse to recommend Evangelion, it's just 26 fun light-hearted episodes + a movie, you won't regret it

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

This is an underrated Robin Williams classic. Another one with Robin I strongly recommend is Bicentennial Man. Picture AI crossed with Pinnochio, and you get the vibe.

Odavin

This is one of Robin Williams best works, very heavy film, I would also suggest: What Dreams May Come 1998, and Jakob the Liar 1999.

Stephanie Bedworth

I worked for a good while in a Walmart photo lab. So many penises...

MeetMountain

Hahaha I can only imagine. Then you hand the photos to the said penis holder. 🤣

Logan Nelson

That's 1954's "The Day the Earth Stood Still"... For, what black and white sci-fi movie was playing in the background around an hour in or so...

p0sthum4n

Just came to comment this. Insomnia is another fantastic serious role from Robin Williams, and alongside Al Pacino of all people.

Logan Nelson

Also, another "film" movie you guys should check out... 8MM (1999)...

Flerb

I'm with Simone, I saw this in the theater in 2002 and never wanted to watch it again. That is until y'all got me to watch it again today LOL

dys

A classic of 50s scifi. It's also referenced in Independence Day, Futurama, and probably a ton of other things they've seen.

REDR58

I, as an American who knows next to nothing about it and hearing about it for the first time today, also assumed it had something to do with London, Ontario.

REDR58

Didn't he get the memo about the cover sheets?

REDR58

"The Fisher King" (1991) is probably my favorite of all of his movies.

REDR58

Must be the haircut/color.

BellaBlue

Maybe unpopular opinion but I wish they'd do an MCU catch up on stuff they haven't seen.. I'm excited for them to watch SM:BND, AD, and ASC over the next few years but I do think they'd be missing a lot wo some context in certain areas... at the very minimum...Thunderbolts (which was excellent btw) and a few other things (although I"d prefer full catch up)

djKENTO

EVANGELION REACTION WHEN!?

ShittyShittyGameGang

If you wanna see Colson play something where he's not an agent he's in The To-Do List with Connie Britton & Aubrey Plaza. It's a raunchy comedy and his character was pretty funny I thought.

DM DC

i was also thinking they should see Insomnia. It is also really good.

DesolationEntertained

All the dots don't quite line up, but I like to imagine that Sy orchestrates all the evidence to suggest HE was the source of the original photos. Sy reveals this scheme to the husband, while making the threat (which we know is empty) that he'll reveal the final photos if the father ever strays again. It might seem like the earlier blackmail claim negates the latter as motivation, but Sy understands the power that humiliation holds over you. This way Sy sacrifices himself to fully redeem the father, revealing his motivations were always his twisted affection for the family and never anger or hatred like we may have assumed. The father, then, is left sitting on the end of the bed trying to mentally process why the schemes of a mad man seem like the only way forward. His penance is to either earn the second chance he's been given, or be forever imprisoned in the family he betrayed.

TYLER NORWOOD

Glad you guys got to see this contrasting classic from Robin Williams. It's also one of the main influences for the director of the Backrooms movie; along with anime series Paranoia Agent and the Portal video games. You can definitely tell when comparing the environmental tension between each other.

Matt Dellarosa

Death to Smoochy lost a recent poll. Which is a crime. It must be watched.

Matt Dellarosa

That was a great show. Julia Louise Dreyfus was the first one to break out of the Seinfeld mold with a hit show that worked.

Matt Dellarosa

Death to Smoochy. Mentioned multiple times. It will happen now. I hope

REDR58

Agreed. Wonderman which I just finished is fantastic and I'm looking forward to VisionQuest. I continue to enjoy everything about the MCU with the exception of "Secret Invasion" which is a garbage fire of epic proportions and should be excised from continuity.

Christopher Carson

Same boat as you but I did re-watch it shortly after his death as I went into a full filmography of his. He was such a big part of my growing up, I had to pay homage.

Garth Mindfeather

just having Simone's head on hundreds of other bodies strung together in a kind of slide show would feel like a lowkey horror movie .... the kind of movie commercial that would be available after "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is complete, and all the people left are all really the same person, same mind, all wanting a grilled cheese sandwich at the same time Simone everywhere all at once, at the coffee shops, at the bookstores, in the grocery aisle both buying food and checking her items out, everywhere with exactly this expression on her face. and George out there too of course, peeking from around doors, hiding behind trees and abandoned cars, his face on the body of the dragon from Neverending Story.

Joe Lazarus

I hope you add "What Dreams May Come" , and "Insomnia" to the list!! Robin Williams is great in these serious roles.

BellaBlue

Glad I'm not the only one. It is popular to crap on them but I"ve like most of the things as well w the exception of the one you mentioned. Agreed it was bad. Wonderman was great...sad they nixed. a second season and VQ looks amazing. I've liked most of the films also...they got off rails a bit sure, but I still enjoyed many of the ones that caught heat and I feel like they are now headed in an exciting direction. I wish S&G would hop aboard

OddThomas

I would've picked Insomnia

Hammond of Texas

"The New Adventures of Old Christine" was a great show.

SbE

About Yoshi having to have recognized the bosses' daughter, I'd say having someone bring in a roll of film with pictures of a single child, zooming in more and more is creepy enough to bring in the police.

SbE

For once, AI is right. Also the action figure being described as a "a good guy"...Yikes. yeah not so much

SbE

Whenever they really feel like being depressed...and confused, so very confused, but yes, please watch it

MeetMountain

Don’t ruin it for me! Haha

Dauerempoerungskommentarspaltenkrachmacher

I'm totally with Simone; no idea what's wrong with George, though!?! 😉 I saw the movie when it came out and appreciated it, not only for the movie itself, but especially for Robin Williams' performance, and decided that I really didn't want to watch it again. Now I've seen it a second time here and I can say with absolute certainty: I appreciate the movie, not only for the movie itself, but especially for Robin Williams' performance, and I've decided that I really don't want to watch it again!!!

Al

Interestingly, we don't know that Sy's ending monologue about his trauma is true. We tend to assume it is but the film doesn't verify one way or the other. We know Sy is an unreliable narrator because we see him distort reality several times. Beyond the brutal attack on the couple, think of how he traumatized his boss for justifiably firing him. The boss did what any boss would do given that Sy had been abusing his machine privileges and taking 90 minute lunches. Yet Sy reacted as if he were the victim of some unforgivable abuse. But we never know for sure. Incredible acting by Robin Williams.

Simone's Coconut Squire

For another fantastic Robin Williams as villain movie, put Insomnia on the list. Robin Williams and Al Pacino directed by Chris Nolan, what’s not to love?

James W.

To the Question at the start, I would not try and join the fellowship but with my knowledge of the world I'd go on an adventure of my own. I might try and sneak into Rivendell to hang out with Bilbo; meet Arwen, Elrond, Glorfindel, Eladan and Elrohir. Then after a month or two of that, I'd head back to the Shire, kick it with farmer Maggot and his dogs; smoke some weed. Then set up a doomsday shelter and underground railroad type situation for when Saruman aka Sharkey starts his bullshit in the Shire, so that when the boys get back from the war we can clear them out right quick and get back the hanging out with dogs, eating, smoking weed and helping the lads deal with their PTSD from all that business with Bilbo's ring. - A note to George, -Hobbits are not particularly long lived, just Bilbo because of the ring. They can some times reach 100 but that isn't that uncommon in the real world. - The Shire during the fellowship time frame is not safe, at all. One of the reasons I think the films are a bad adaptation is that the most important part of that story, is what is known as "The Scouring of the Shire" The hobbits return to a despoiled Shire that has become an occupied territory, taken over by evil men, half-orcs(I think) and run by a disempowered, but still dangerous, Saruman. Throughout the story, when it gets hard the hobbits put forth that maybe they should have just stayed out of all this Ring business, stayed in the Shire, but if they had, the war still would have come to them, ring or not. We get to see each of them, even the exceedingly tired Frodo Nine-fingers step up yet again to save their home from Old Sharkey (aka Saruman). Just sayin its not safe and we robbed of such a badass set of scenes. Also to be clear, I do enjoy the films, particularly Fellowship, but I think TT and ROTK are dogshit adaptations of the material...fight me.

James W.

One Hour Photo is decent, and it was nice more just to see Robin get to show off his versatility as an actor again. I'll never stop missing that dude, he was such a pillar of my upbringing and rewatching his films is always cool, like seeing old pics or family movies where a dead relative pops and you miss them but also are kind of just happy to see them again.

Matt Blanchette

I had a film professor at uni who worked on "Army of Darkness"! :-D

Matt Blanchette

Catherine Keener is so underrated in that movie.

Glenner7

What movie is that? asks George. Why, it's the original version of The Day the Earth Stood Still, which I have suggested a couple of times. One day, I tell myself, one day!

Matrim

If it’s book Shire, it doesn’t stay awesome. Lotho takes over and ruins it, then Saruman shows up and makes it even worse.

Simone's Coconut Squire

100%!!!! Only my second time watching this movie after watching in the theater. That hotel room scene has been burned into my brain ever since like friggin childhood trauma. Literally anytime someone mentions how likable Robin Williams is, the back of my brain goes “…but 1-hr Photo…” I tell everyone they need to see this one but won’t watch it with them. I don’t anticipate watching it again for a LONG time if ever again. You hear that George and Simone? The sacrifices we viewers make for you!!!

Simone's Coconut Squire

I’m gonna go deep cut on you and recommend Moscow on the Hudson, The World According to Garp, and Being Human.

Simone's Coconut Squire

If I remember, this DID have a negative impact on photo processing, though it would probably be hard to quantify the impact. A lot of people assumed those kind of developers were 100% automated and private. I felt like this movie brought a lot of awareness that all your photos were actually looked at by an employee, and I imagine that hastened the adoption of digital photography.

Simon Pegged Me

It was one of my favorite novels in college. I was a huge John Irving fan.

Matrim

Oh, I’m sure someone else has probably said it, but the old sci fi movie you were asking about was the original The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Matrim

And if you want some fun, you should check out the episode of Whose Line is it Anyway with Robin. It was filmed the same time as he was doing this so he still has the platinum blonde hair, but it’s just him and several other comedians just riffing their hearts out.

Simon Pegged Me

Sy says, “No one takes pictures of something they don't want to remember,” and given his personal history of being made to pose for sexual photographs, it makes sense that he never took pictures of the lovers he terrorized. The movie included the “Cape Fear” episode of the Simpson, so I'll use this opportunity to recommend Cape Fear (1991) for a future reaction.

CT

The cinebinge duo should watch the movie trailers for the movies they have coming up! That could be a fun preview of the movies they’d be reacting to. Just a thought.

Adam DeVree

For everything in this movie, the scene that stuck with me most was him fantasizing about using their toilet. It’s just so out of left field and he looks so stupidly happy in that moment.

Donna Castellano

I always assumed Yoshi saw the photos of the boss's family on his desk. There's a deliberate shot of those photos when Sy is in his office at his firing.

Donna Castellano

That was the very first thing I saw him in - Sports Night. I should rewatch that. I used to do one every year but haven't since 2020 because my personal life has kind of gone to 💩. Just haven't been in the mood.

Tom B

The Neon genesis evangelion spin off movie!!

gfixler

And La Salle was one of the main doctors on ER, along with Dr. John Carter, played by Noah Wyle, who's now the star of The Pitt, which I would love to see them react to. It's amazing. I think it was supposed to be a continuation of ER, but they couldn't get the rights, so it became it's own thing. I think there was even a kerfuffle with whoever owns the rights to ER, that Wyle would be playing kind of the same role again—a head ER doctor—but I don't think that went anywhere.

Hollis Hamilton

Another excellent Robin Williams performance is in Awakenings with Robert DeNiro. Based on actual events at a chronic hospital in New York. Williams is a doctor that's an introvert and DeNiro is a patient.

Saifu

Please add Neon Genesis Evangelion to the anime list!

Ben from Tenn

Never even heard of this movie before, so good. Robin's such a goat. Supposedly this flick was a major inspiration behind 'Backrooms' too.
