Alien (1979) - Patreon Version

Personally I love Alien 3 (theatrical cut)

Alien 3 is pretty interesting if you take it as five directors each trying to make about half of a different movie and the editor then trying to match them together to a single one. Most people still watching Alien movies at this point would probably enjoy at least two of those movies depending on taste, so you'll be getting two or more good movies in the time you spend watching one, as long as you can compartmentalize the good parts that are there and fill in the parts that aren't. And if you take it as the end of the story, 3 ties it up into a decent trilogy. But I'd say most of the rest of the 15 Alien movies and the 5000 comic book spinoffs don't add anything worthwhile to the story. Please Hollywood come up with one new iconic space monster one of these decades.

Oh look, they're so young again.

I think the first two Dark Horse licensed Aliens comics that started in the late 80s had much better stories than Alien3. Killing Hicks and Newt after everything Ripley did to save them in the previous film was just lazy.

Sure, I like many of James Cameron's movies that have been released over the years, but the movie that I find that I enjoyed much more than any others he has directed would be 1994's True Lies. It was a huge hit in theaters that summer but I don't hear many people talking about it any longer. Oh, and Piranha II: The Spawning. It's terrible, but like a lot of people, I love me some dumbass movies.

I rank this film equally with John Carpenter's The Thing. This film, however, having been released a few years before The Thing, had a much more... profound... effect on audiences.

For the design of the alien (a.k.a. “xenomorph”), that goes to H. R. Giger.

Ah, the cooling of tea. The reminder of the unrelenting march toward the heat death of the Universe. Existential crisis in a warm and cozy mug of leaf soup.

My own personal opinion is that you should watch Aliens, but stop there, and go right into Prometheus.

If and when you watch Aliens, please make sure it's the extended director's cut. James Cameron had an uphill battle with the studio to release his version (which thankfully they eventually did four years later), and is definitely the far superior cut of the film.

We were really formal when addressing parents in the 1970s.

For those looking for the info, this was the theatrical release.

A lot of reactors are confused by this, but the movie is not set in 2037. Is actually set in something like 2120. The "2037" you saw was just an ID number for the user interface the character was interacting with.
