I think this may be the FIRST joke that "aged-out". The guy in the cab is Howard Jarvis - the Californian who created "Proposition 13" and made national news by being considered 'The Father of Home Rule Petitions' (it also makes more sense of how many times the figure 13 shows up on the fare meter.) VERY specific 1979/80 California joke. But, even if no one else got it, it made the producers laugh - & Jarvis was up for the cameo.

If you want to see Leslie Nielsen in his first iteration as a serious leading man you should watch “Forbidden Planet”. You should watch it anyway because it’s a classic. Arguably, it’s the prototype for every Star Trek: TOS episode where humans are exploring space - ironically in a flying saucer - and visit a planet where human scientists are hiding a deadly secret. It’s a classic that should be on your list regardless, but the Nielsen and Star Trek connections are too strong to ignore (in my humble opinion 😁).

I'm sure you've heard this by now but the horse was in the credits as Wendy. Also in the credits was A Tale Of Two Cities - Charles Dickens. And had you watched until the end, there was the guy in the taxi saying, Well, I'll give him 20 more minutes, then I'm leaving. Otherwise a great reaction. Helpful Hint: when you're watching a joke a minute movie, use the closed captions. That way if you're laughing and the next joke comes around you can catch it even if you don't hear it. Be well, Greg :)

The mother of all absurd and sarcastic comedy movies. In my opinion still never been beaten. Looking forward to this one. :-)

After Airplane! the Zucker brothers went on to make Police Squad!, a comedy TV series starring Leslie Nielsen that in turn went on to become the Naked Gun movies. Definitely worth the look for anyone who liked Airplane!

You guys are pretty young so I could tell quite a few of the jokes went over your head but I think you did great with what you knew some of it was just of that time period. I was very young when this came out so I had to watch it again as an adult to get them all. Movies like this would not be allowed to be made anymore in our current culture. It didn't age well but it's still a classic.

So many of these jokes must have been even more funny to people back then. The genius of this movie is that they used a lot of serious actors who were kind of past their prime, so seeing dramatic actors like Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack, and Peter Graves in such a ridiculous movie must've been extra hilarious. And the older woman who says "I speak jive" was famous as the mom from 50s show "Leave It To Beaver", I remember my dad laughing his ass off when she popped up speaking urban slang but I didn't know why at the time haha. The film makers basically made fun of all the shows and movies the Boomers grew up with and some that were even popular at the time. They were pretty subversive and funny as hell. Also, I'm not sure but I think the entire premise is a spoof on a disaster movie from the 70s called "Airport '75". Oh yeah, and you guys are probably gonna love "Life of Brian", and great reaction, glad you guys enjoyed it!

The woman who said, "Jim never drinks a second cup of coffee at home," said almost the same line in a coffee commercial. The intent of the commercial was that she was buying inferior coffee for her home, but there was an alternative.

At the end of credits it shows the guy in the cab saying "OK I'll give him another 20 minutes but then I'm leaving."

One of the funniest things for me, having seen this movie WAY too many times, is all the jokes that went past you because they just come so fast or because there is no way for you to get the references, which is not a criticicism of your reaction at all. You just have to go rewatch it a bunch of times. Just as an example, every time there is an exterior shot of the plane flying, while it is obviously a jet plane, the sound effect is for propellor engines. There are some jokes in the credits, but they are not prominent. You may notice that two of the writer/directors are the Zucker brothers, and the make-up lady is their mother.
