May just be a tad late commenting on this one...but you guys, particularly George, would probably love the short story "The Things" by Peter Watts. It's an award winning short story that recounts the events of this movie but from the point of view of the creature. It's incredibly well written and gives fascinating new insight into The Thing as an entity. It's only like a 10-15 minute read and you can just read it on Google for free.

On the plus side Stan Winston (The Terminator) stepped in to do the exploding dog vfx.

Always on top 3 horror movies of all time list, many times voted as #1. The original is called The Thing From Another World and is the movie that the kids are watching in John Carpenter's Halloween. The voice that Simone recognises has been in a hundred video games, Keith David whom voiced Captain Anderson in Mass Effect. The music is by Ennio Morricone whom scored all the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns. The order of infestations is ; - Norwegians - dog The dog comes to the Americans whom also bring Thing remains into the camp. - Norris - the shadow on the wall that turns when the dog visits - Bennings - attacked by Thing that is brought back - Blair - stupidly infects himself with his pencil eraser when examining the Thing dogs, does not fully become a Thing until locked in the tool shed - Palmer - undisclosed - Doc - THIS IS CONTENTIUOUS... however someone MUST have got to the blood and it MUST have been Garry or Doc Copper. As the blood samples were taken for the final test someone "may" have messed up and simply not bothered correctly in taking Copper's sample - Windows - by Palmer - Garry - by Blair - Nauls - undisclosed Fuchs died. Clarke was murdered (in self defence). MacReady and Childs froze or blew themselves up (my guess). Childs is not a Thing if you use the logic from the prequel which states that a Thing cannot simulate metal, so fillings or earrings (which Childs has at the end) mean that you are human. The Thing is part of John Carpenter's unofficial apocalypse trilogy (along with the underrated Prince of Darkness and Mouth of Madness). In each of these movies it is GAME OVER for the human race by the time the first reel is shown. Both Sweden (sorry... I mean NORWAY) and the US will send rescue parties and they will find cellular remains, and will be infected and will return to civilisation ending the world. Nauls disappeared without a trace. There was blood on the axe in the door in the Norwegian camp. There HAS to be traces of the Thing somewhere ! Special FX artist and maestro Rob Bottin also did John Carpenter's The Fog, a creepy underrated ghost story (which he also appears in full make up). One for this All Hallow's Eve ? And massive kudos the Jed, the dog actor whom appeared in many other films at the time (he has his own IMDB page !) That dog acted in this movie. Carpenter was mesmerised by his performance as he stalks Norris down the corridor because he had to ignore all of the cameras and crew to keep his eyes on his sightlines. They had never heard of a dog that could do that. And the unnatural way he enters the pen full of other dogs. He was such a good boy !

Wasn't Doc. The per-- sorry, Thing -- who got to the blood grabbed the keys when Windows dropped them after seeing Bennings get taken.

It's kind of funny that if you are Norwegian or Scandinavian in general the guy with the rifle basically gives the entire plot away. He is literally saying something like " move away, it's not a dog. It's some kind of thing. It mimics things". It's like come on man, spoiler warning.

This one and Alien are my two favorite horror movies. Glad you both enjoyed it.

"We have no clue what this is about." Oh boy... this is going to be fun!

Your picture is the only one where I've seen laughing at this movie.

Rob Bottin who worked on the creature effects worked himself very ill. He had to be flown from the Alaska set and taken to the hospital suffering from dehydration and sleep deprivation. The man almost died for his work and he was given nothing from the Academy Awards 😕😕

This movie specifically is why John Carpenter is my goat horror director. I mentioned in the YouTube comments on the "good boy" pic, I hope you guys watch the rest of his "Apocalypse Trilogy" the third movie in particular is really underrated and all three have that "Eldritch Horror" (which I usually refer to as Cosmic or Lovecraftian Horror) vibe. And I'd love if you guys could react to John Carpenter's "Big Trouble In Little China". I love that movie but I'm also curious to hear George's thoughts because I remember hearing at the time that an advocacy group protested it for depicting Chinese Americans as violent. I thought it made them look awesome lol, but in retrospect I imagine it might be considered cultural appropriation, I can't say myself.
