the reason they don't use floo power do teleport to hogwarts is because for security reasons they don't want to hook the hogwarts fireplaces up to the floo network.

I know its been a year, but there hasn't been another explanation for the train. Long story short, having the train means wizards of all background have an equal way of travelling to Hogwarts. The train actually stops at Hogsmede, the town nearby of Hogwarts. Only the first years take the boats across the lake as tradition while the rest ride carriages to the castle.

I really wish Cuaron hadn't turned Tom into a hunchback trope. He was always just an attentive, kindly innkeep with no overt characterization. They turned him into a clown for the sake of being weird for weirdness sake. Same with the random green-skinned cleaning witch straight from the West side of Oz. That's bothered me since the first time seeing this in theaters. Cuaron's sense of humor hits like a budget-priced Tim Burton. :-\

Okay about going back in time and killing some one as an infant and all that… You’re literally going to deny the existence of billions of currently living people by changing history. There’s no guarantee that Harry is born if you do that… essentially the same as killing him. The morality of time travel is never tackled on that level.

Funny that you should mention the "nature vs nurture" argument with regards to voldemort. His mother drugged his father with a love potion before he was born, which some interpret as an inherent flaw in his soul.

It's true, I mean, my own grandparents would never have even met if not for Hitler. My general plan for if I got a time machine would be to go back to about 60,000 BC somewhere about today's Uganda, where modern humans began spreading out to take over the world. Offer them modern medicine, contraceptives, agriculture, environmentalism, humanism, solar powered laptop computers and stuff along those lines and you could probably convince them to stick around for long enough to teach them to avoid imperialism and all that stuff that allows people to kill each other in order to take their stuff, and humanity will start out committed to staying on the same side long before needing fiberoptic cables to stay in touch with each other. That, I think, would be worth throwing away everything and everyone alive today.

Watching the reaction now guys. As to your question for why they do not just use Floo powder all the time, in short, security. There are magical wards all around Hogwarts, the only way to get onto the grounds is by manual travel. This is much as the same for high security places in our world, only allowing one way to get in and out. If the Floo network was accessible via the school then kids could come and go, or people could come into the school without authorization. I think there might be a single fireplace in the school that can be used, but it is closely guarded. As to why Richard Harris is no longer Dumbledore, he did indeed die as Simone guessed. Michael Gambon was a good friend of Harris, and if I recall he was the only person the producers wanted. Edit: Just finished the reaction. A few things they covered but do not do a great job explaining. The people who created the Marauders Map were Moony(Lupin), Padfoot(Black), Wormtail(Pettigrew) and Prongs(James Potter). The three other kids became animagus, wizards who can transform into animals, so they could hang out with Lupin when he transformed. Lupin has been a werewolf for most of his life. The Whomping Willow was planted there when Lupin came to school so he could go into the shack before he transformed, hence how it got its name, the Shrieking Shack. In the book the animals they turned into had purpose. Black and Potter were big, so they could handle Lupin, and Pettigrew was a rat who could approach the tree and press a knot that would calm it down so they could pass. Harry’s Patronus is a stag because James could turn into one. In addition to giving Harry a new broom, Sirius also gave Harry a note of permission to visit Hogsmeade. I think those are the big points they kinda gloss over. Been a while since I read the books, so if I think of anything else I will add it.

Yes the recast on Dumbledore is because of the passing of the previous one. Also noone sees this unless you are told but at some point in the map ending with the actor names there are 2 people having sex in one of the tiny rooms in the castle. it shows 2 pairs of feet close and towards eachoter.

Professor Wolf Wolf is a what now?

The one other thing I think they gloss over is that time travel is strictly regulated. Hermione has to do a bunch of paperwork to get permission from the ministry of magic before they loan her the time turner.

J.K Rowling actually based the Dementors off her battles with depression. Their presence causes everything to go cold and you feel as though you'll never be happy again, eventually consuming your soul.

The others have done a great job answering your questions so I will only add a couple things. You mentioned Lupin's scars several times. They are indeed claw marks from being made a werewolf in childhood. The werewolf who made him was notorious for doing so to children and is named Fenir Greyback. The mauraders are a huge deal in the book and a lot of us are livid they were completely left out of the movie. The three that became animagus animals did so illegally as they have a registry. They gloss over what happened but essentially Sirius was the Potters secret keeper. The side fighting Voldemort k ew they had a traitor. Sirius knew he would be the first targeted with his closeness to the Potters so to keep them safe he secretly transferred ownership of the secret to Pettigrew who turned them over to Voldemort. Everyone had known Sirius was the secret keeper and so they immediately believed he was a traitor. He went to confront Peter who cut off his own finger and blew up a bunch of muggles before becoming a rat. Sirius couldn't out him without outting himself. He escaped when he saw the pic of the Weasleys in Egypt and saw Peter with Ron. As to the questions about Snape I will only say you are supposed to be confused. He is a complex character. You are seeing the story through Harry's eyes and as Harry learns more so will you.

watching this movie with the two of you made it like I was watching it with friends - got to say can't wait for the next one

When adapting a novel into a film a lot scenes have to be cut for various reasons while others might be altered in some way and I find this very interesting. A number of Ron’s lines from the books actually get attributed to different characters in the films and since this happens to Ron fairly consistently across the eight films, Ron is one of the characters that is the most altered by the adaptation which unfortunately is to his characters detriment. To be clear I am not saying that the films are bad, I just find this really interesting. For anyone else who’s interested in this there’s actually a really good video essay about it on YouTube called “Explaining what went weird with Ron Weasley” by Quinn Curio, it’s about half an hour long and is clearly full of spoilers so don’t watch it if you haven’t read all of the books and/or seen all of the films.
