Since the question cameup in the raction: This movie is kinda based on the Satsuma rebellion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satsuma_Rebellion With the final battle mostly being influenced by the battle of Shiroyama. James Clavells book Shogun is probably also an inspiration, but the events in the book take place ~300 years prior. If you're interested in relations between Japan and western governments his "Asian Saga" is a nice read. AFAIK the US were not really involved with Japan at the time, which would be the reason why the emperor rejects the treaty at the end. edit: since i seem to remember some metal shirts from other reactions, this might be interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ylyqoxh-cXk

Simone rooting for the Captain and the minister to get killed. LOL

George, Simone loves that fighting choreography; time to show her some Jackie Chan!

Incredibly enjoyed the YouTube reaction, as well. :) Looking forward to it being released on YouTube for everyone. I'm sure that it will be widely accepted.

Ah, woops! Realized that this is already up on YouTube. Dropped a like over there, as well. :)

That's true, but it is only very loosely based on the Satsuma Rebellion, the movie is mostly fiction with the typical Hollywood of traditional Honor vs modern enterprise morality thrown in. Satsuma was not "the last samurai", most of whom chose to seek other employment. He and other Samurai did not fight a rebellion for some noble reason of "honor" but because they where loosing power, they used to be the big dogs in Japan but enterprise was simply having much more success. Also the Samurai where not refusing to use ammunition, they simply ran out so they had no other choice. The Japanese military was not some untrained army of new conscripts, but actually relatively experienced at the time having already fought in a war. And lastly, everybody knows that this is a copy of Dances with Wolves.

I recommend watching War of the Worlds (2005). It stars Tom Cruise and was directed by Steven Spielberg.
