The Mandalorian Season 2: Episode 5 & 6 - Patreon Version

Thrawn wasnt assasinated by the New Republic, at least they didnt order it. His bodyguard Rukh killed him because of what the Empire did to Honoghr. (although Leia was at least partially responsible since she discovered the truth)

Book of Boba Fett has its issues, but you should watch it for sure. It interacts directly with the story of this show. This show had its issues as well in the first season. Finishing the first episode now. Grand Admiral Thrawn is unbelievably important. Top tier talent that one. He has been around since 1991 when the first Star Wars book series of the new (at that time) era came out, and started what was known as The Expanded Universe. These books are known as Heir to the Empire trilogy, or also The Thrawn Trilogy. Disney decannonized these books and everything else in April of 2014, but then began pulling selected things back into Cannon in 2017 to prepare for this show, and others.

The actor playing the Magistrate is Diana Lee Inosanto. Her father (Dan Inosanto) taught Bruce Lee the nanchaku weapon. She became Bruce Lee’s goddaughter. Her martial arts skills are quite extensive.

If you buy a high-end OLED TV like I recently did - episode 5 is the one to show it off, it's like really moody then anything that lights up (and there's a lot in that) looks really cool. By the way Temuera Morrison who plays Boba Fett here played Jango Fett in episode 2 and voiced Boba Fett in many other things - they didn't just pluck him out the ether, it actually makes a lot of sense. The guy who originally played Boba was pretty old and in fact died recently, so you have to do an thing; there's a lot of linkage between the clone wars stuff and Mandalorian, so it also works on a different level. By the way they did announce a (I believe live-action) series named "Ahsoka" which you may have missed..

The Jedi powers and their usage is very vague and seems to mostly be used just for plot convenience. Space magic! I know it's not the popular opinion, but the Force and the Jedi are IMO the lamest things in Star Wars. On a side note: the actor who played the evil spear lady's sidekick was none other than Michael Biehn of Terminator's Kyle Reese fame.

Episode 5, more so than any other episode in The Mandalorian is why if you're going to watch more Star Wars then just the movies, you need to watch Clone Wars and Rebels. If you're going to watch The Mandalorian Season 3, you need to watch Book of Boba Fett. And yes, Book of Boba Fett does have it's problems but I do think it's a mandatory watch if you're going to continue. I'll post these two bits of info to hopefully entice you to watch Clone Wars. 1; Ahsoka is Anakin's Padawan between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. 2; The Clone Wars shows more of Anakin's descent into the dark side and shows more of his time with Obi Wan. One last thing I'll say about Clone Wars, a lot of episodes are stand alone non-story episode and while not necessary are nice to watch. For Rebels, the only snippet is that at a point in the series Grand Admiral Thrawn is a main villain to the main group of characters. But both Clone Wars and Rebels are, in my opinion, required viewing if you're going to watch more than just the Star Wars movies. Please Cinebinge, you're my only hope!

My thoughts are that due to the things she witnessed during and immediately after the clone wars and the transformation of her master, using the force for much more than the use of her light Sabres, is connected to emotions. Crush/choking is definitely more of an anger based/Sith sorta brutal use of the force. Throughout the prequels and the animated versions, it was made pretty clear that the Jedi were supposed to be peace keepers, only using force for protection and defense when necessary. They were manipulated into being soldiers and using their power and weapons in aggressive/ emotional ways. Ahsoka saw the hypocrisy and left the order partly for that reason. Really need to watch all of the animated series along with the live action movies closely to get a clearer picture. But also a plot convenience at times, of course.

This is a PERFECT explanation of what you need to know and what to watch. Nicely done, I couldn't have done better. Now, I just hope George reads the comments because he didn't last week. :P

Nate Terry

remember in Episode 5 movie when Yoda trains Luke, he tells him Jedi use the force for knowledge and defense...never attack.

The recaps at the beginning do seem to be related directly to the episode in one way or another. Eg. in the episode with the recap of the prison break the x-wings asked about his ship being involved right before Mando tried to run. The frog lady also rewired the droid that had been involved in the prison break.

Torstein Skurve

Is there an update to the Avatar reactions that got claimed? I only got halfway through the first season😅

Ahsoka was trained by Anakin and is very skilled with lightsabers, but she didnt want to kill the Magistrate, she wanted the information. I am almost certain that is why the fight lasted as long as it did. Had she wanted, Ahsoka could have used any number of force powers...

Cinebinge

unfortunately not. YT has basically told us "too bad" with the over two dozen videos that were taken down :(

Tomas

Well, I suppose you can make sense of it that way, but honestly, the Star Wars universe is kind of inconsistent and stupid in its use of Force powers, simply for the sake of creating dramatic tension. Like, there's no reason why Ahsoka couldn't just lift the Magistrate up into the air with the Force and hold her there to render her harmless and completely at her mercy. In essence, there shouldn't have been any need for them to fight at all. But for there to be a reason to have some action on TV, good guys have to be stupid and fight with their hands behind their back, and bad guys have to be stupid and give winding monologues explaining their plans in detail to the good guys. Just the law of fiction I'm afraid.

Torsten Maekler

The guards of General Grievous (Episode 3) had staff weapons (the ones with electricity at each end), that could block lightsabers. So metals which are able to block are known for some time, but they are rare... . Part of the Jedi Code was that a misuse of force abilities leads to the dark side. Using the force on inanimate objects, i.e. non living entities like droids doesn't violate that code. That is why there is so many pushing of Droids in the films... :-). But never of human beings. It would have been inappropriate for Ahsoka to use the force on the other lady. With the Jedi an action is always connected to the deeper levels of the consciousness. You just don't act but reflect on what you do and to what it could lead you. That is for example why Luke in Episode 6 opened himself up to the Dark Side when he attacked Vader - which was the intention of the Emperor. But he realized it after cutting off Vaders robot hand and stopped himself from going down that path.

The actor playing the magistrate's enforcer, that's Kyle Reese from The Terminator. Also, the New Republic officer that Mayfeld killed is the actor who voiced Anakin in The Clone Wars

Gnosis

George goes dark side, confirmed. lol

The idea of Grogu in little Mando armor, with his ears tucked down to fit the helmet, is so amazing.

Late as always, but Thrawn is literally the one element which makes me feel for the Empire. The man was incredible in every way. A warrior through and through. Even the New Republic had to resort to assassination in order to stop him. Namely, because both the Emperor and Thrawn knew what existed in the fringes which was much more dangerous.

Ridor

And episode six was the perfect example of Legends Boba. Disney nerfed him like an ass in his own series, but man, if you delve into who he was through the 30 plus years of literature prior to Disney's bullcrap there's a reason the man was feared.
