Every time Simone says 'paint me a picture', I think of Katharine https://youtu.be/5Xtu-9bxeyg?t=64 What're the chances of a Hepburn reaction? - 'Bringing Up Baby' (1938) - 'The Philadelphia Story' (1940) - 'The African Queen' (1951) I know, none of it is Youtube-worthy.

Prof. Writhms

YES! You’ve seen the great 80s remakes of “The Thing” and “The Fly”. So you have to complete the set with the remake of “The Blob” (1988). It’s just as awesome, with wonderfully gross and amazing practical special effects. Remaking old 50s sci-fi/horror films was popular in the 80s. I’d say these are the top 3.

The Maestro

So The Fly is a remake of a film from the 50s directed by the same guy who made the shitty American remake of Godzilla in 77 and some other weird films from the mid 20th century. David Cronenberg is a fellow Canadian director known specifically for body horror stuff which is probably why Rick and Morty had a thing about him and it was like that

Githerax

OMG, did he scoop sugar into his coffee, stir it, then *scoop more sugar*??? THE HORROR.

JediLounger

Simone, the questions you have at the end of the reaction are resolved in The Fly 2. It's not as good as this one, but you can find those answers.

Githerax

Simone: "I don't want to see it- I don't want to see it!" But Cronenberg wants you to see it, Simone. So you will. Also, you watched this and True Detective in the same day? WTF George? You schedule the bad stuff first, then something nice afterwards.

Githerax

Speaking of Godzilla, do y'all have the original 'Godzilla' (1954) on the list? Why not?

Torsten Maekler

When you mentioned in the other episode, that you recorded "The Fly" I was like: uh-oh... poor Simone. And when Jeff Goldblum began to fall apart and you were almost puking, I thought, knowing what is coming: this is not going to end well... I think, seriously, Simone should say if this kinda shit is too much or if she is willing to endure this. Man... . Glad, that you took it with your kind of humor in the end, but man... . PS: Those colors in the beginning were walking people - just run through a 2-color-filter.

Matt Blanchette

Fun fact: Cronenberg was involved in what became "Total Recall" after making "The Fly" -- Kuato was HIS idea, and you can tell. :-D

MrCAL

Got the notification on my phone of you posting this and instantly thought "Ow boy, Simone is in for a bad time with this one". Haven't watched the reaction yet but I'd like to pre-emptively give you my well wishes Simone.

Richard B.

If you guys have not seen it already I vote for Slither (2006) if for no other reason to test Simone's ability not to puke.

Opti_Frog

"Not as good" is quite the understatement. The Fly 2 is rubbish. 😛

Opti_Frog

Yaay! Always happy to see reactions to the greatest body horror ever. As Empire Magazine wrote: "Science fiction has rarely been this emotionally powerful or, ironically for a film with a mutant insect at its centre, so deeply human."

stephen phillips

hi I just joined your patreon. I would love to see you guys react to some older Alfred Hitchcock films. really great stuff like Rear Window, shadow of a Doubt, Rope, North by Northwest, Strangers On a train. just some of is work. so many others

MacGuffinStuff

To answer Simone's question, what happened after was the sequel, and since I seriously doubt they'll watch it ( it's not really worth a watch) I don't mind spoiling that the main character is their son, as he tries to follow in his father's footsteps. Couple fun facts, Cronenberg was the gynecologist in the maggot birthing dream sequence, he's also Canadian, so he's your guys' fault lol and he's done other acting, for instance in Clive Barker's "Nightbreed", which was a movie I really wanted to love because I used to collect the comic books but unfortunately was a disappointment for the most part. Another fun fact I just learned from reading the trivia on Amazon is that the guy who's arm Seth breaks arm wrestling was played by George Chuvalo, described as "Canada's greatest heavyweight boxer", apparently the guy fought Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, AND Joe Frazier, he lost but was never knocked down in his entire career, which might not be impressive to you guys but as a boxing fan I think it's pretty awesome.

stephen phillips

and another crazy David Cronenberg film I'd recommend is Videodrome from 1983.

Logan Kerlee

hahahaha, I enjoyed the reaction. :) I remember watching this movie as a kid and it FREAKED ME OUT! Now though, it's just gross but not terrifying. Happy to have watched this one again. Thanks for watching it, you two! :)

William

I know i have a 100,000,000 -1 chance of kissing Simone, but I would close my eyes :) Probably got a better chance of kissing George :) Great raction guys to this fim, really enjoyed

Githerax

I need fan-animation of Bill Pullman from Spaceballs open-eyed kissing a wide-eyed Geena Davis from The Fly.

Marko T.

Jeff Goldblum is so good in this. This is a great remake but I like the original 1958 version more.

Ry Jo

great movie, the vomit drop stuff was a little much for me as well. however I was a kid when I first saw this and just like Alien,Aliens, jaws, Terminator T2, predator ,the Abyss, ghost busters 1 &2 I always asked the same question " how did they do that" sure certain scenes were scary at times but I always wanted to know how they did the special effect I was always more worried about that then the how scary or gory it was lol

Jack Urmson

This is a powerful movie in its visuals for sure. It’s even more impressive when viewed through the allegory of addiction. The relationship between Geena Davis and Goldblum is what it is like to see someone who cares for another to slowly destroy themselves through substance abuse. This a crazy good horror/dramatic movie. It’s why Cronenberg is the master movie maker we all know.

Thomas Yanez

All of Simone's questions at the end, and more, are answered in "The Fly 2".

Michael Bourke

The Fly 2, while not as good as the first movie, is definitely worth watching. Eric Stoltz is good in it and the effects are good too.

Steve H

so, the Fly 2 is a no go; Eric Stoltz was on board, but the ship was still sinking the whole time, until it floundered.
