Okay so really late comment on this reaction but I just felt like watching this movie again, and of course with The Binge, but there were rumors for years of a sequel, and consider this, we know there's the demon orangutan at the end, the infamous jump scare, but if you notice, you never actually see the Three Storms die, well Rain did take a sword to the chest, Thunder apparently exploded into pieces of cabbage and burlap, and Lighting took a Buddha statue to the dome, but they are gods, so, hear me out, what if they aren't actually dead? Come on George and Simone, let's write the sequel 😂

This was released at the age that Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies were achieving cult status, so John Carpenter felt like bringing some Hong Kong flavour to the mainstream. Listening to Kurt and John doing their commentary... they both absolutely loved making this, and Jack Burton is one of their fave characters. But Wang is the hero for real. I also fell madly in love with Kim Cattrall when I saw this as a teen. But this flopped massively as American audiences failed to get the joke with Jack's bumbling character. As a cult movie it just gives you everything.

This just made my entire weekend!

They got the character of Raiden from this movie. So much pop culture comes from John Carpenter.

John Howard

I definitely homebrewed the Six Demon Bag for my party.

Always a fun waiting for that last jump scare to see how most reactors jump od their sits :)

Ty Johnson

Joined because you remind my friends and I when we were your age. It's almost spooky lol. Anyway this is a fun movie and can't wait to see you guy react.

Kevin

Well we see it from Jacks point of view, he joined a new DND group that was near the final battle of the Campain, so they had to explain alot to him. The new lvl 3 rouge in a lvl 14 setting,

John Carpenter's Starman needs a watch. A rare softer side from the horror director that also has a great performance from Jeff Bridges.

So last night, I watch you reacting to Top Gun. And as soon as it's finished I check to see if you have reacted to Big Trouble in Little China. Then I look to see if it's on a poll. Then I go to bed grumpy because I can't find it anywhere... Wishes can come true, my friends.

Jomero

"Did Mortal Kombat get inspiration from this movie?" 100% yes.

Chase Lonnergan

That completely lost feeling you have? It's kinda the point of the movie. Jack Burton is the audience proxy for the film, you're lost because HE is lost. The idea of the movie's tone is that of an outsider thrown into events and cultures that he doesn't understand and we the audience are along for the ride.

Joshua Gardiner

Easily tied for my favorite movie of all time.

Andrew Smith

You two should watch they live another great John Carpenter film.

One of the best satires made, but also an appreciation to the movies of the 70s, especially since it's from 1986 and not today. Way ahead of its time. I always laugh tears when he runs around with the lipstick on his mouth unlike e.g. James Bond, Indiana Jones, etc. 😂😂😂

Ah, Big Trouble in Little China, the movie that's not afraid to ask the question: "What the hell did I just watch?"

REDR58

Great reaction. Haven't seen this movie in awhile.

I loved the progression of: "it's Rayden"... "oh, that's Rayden".... "no THAT'S Rayden"...

I don't care what anyone says, I love this movie, it's just a ride from start to finish, totally unique. I love the comedic timing, the inversion of expectations where the guy you think is the side kick is the hero and Kurt Russell plays a guy who's like the embodiment of a bad John Wayne impression and thinks he's Han Solo, he's hilarious incompetent at times but also likeable, because Kurt Russell is. This was a cool reaction and one I was really waiting for, and I wasn't disappointed, I was really curious how George would see this and it was awesome to hear some of the translations, I always knew James Hong was saying something to the effect that Jack was an idiot, but now knowing he says, "why is this guy so dumb", now I'll hear that next time I watch it lol (and I will, this movie never gets old for me). Very cool to hear about Chinese cinema too. One little fun fact, Kurt Russell learned to drive a tractor for this movie, he's driving the truck in some of the scenes, not when it's at highway speeds or hooked up to a trailer, but when he's bobtailing (driving a tractor without a trailer) through the alleys etc. I've driven a Freightliner Classic (briefly, it was a loner while my truck was in the shop), they're beasts, but I felt like a real old school truck driver in that rig, was like the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, buttons and switches and gauges I knew not whatfor lol Aw man, I do kinda miss truck driving, got to see a lot of places, got into a few adventures of my own, not this wild but...

Big Trouble in little china is the movie where the sidekick thinks he is the main character.

JarHead0351

Kurk Russell is also funny in "Captain Ron" - back in the day this movie (Big Trouble in Littlr China) was fun to watch.

I'm a new subscriber, so I'm a little late to the party on this one. This has been my favorite movie since I first saw it in 1986 (yeah I'm old). It was way ahead of its time. Just want to speak on a couple of things at the end of the movie. In 2015, a series of comics started (I can't remember the other author, but John Carpenter collaborated with them) that picks up right when the movie ends. As zany as the movie is, the comics reallly go crazy, but that first issue touches on a couple of things I find satisfying. 1. The reason why he didn't kiss Gracie goodbye. The comic showed that at one time Jack Burton was married. As his wife died of cancer, he kissed her, and said that he would never kiss another woman goodbye. 2. The monster. Apparently, this was a "lesser demon" and its master was Lo Pan, so when Jack killed Lo Pan, Jack became its new master.
