Liam Nissan

Hell yeah.. A lot of good stuff on here.. Hoping for Hacksaw Ridge personally 🤞

Robert Cooper

If there is a Kubrick movie you haven't seen, always start with that.

Adam Wetstein

Life is beautiful is not a war. Film. Separate category Holocaust films. Have a separate poll.

Jim Johnson

Full Metal Jacket and Dunkirk are several tiers above everything else on this list imo

CHRISTOPHER RUSSELL

Dunkirk. Genius cinematography. Hans Zimmer on the score. It’s a phenomenal theatre experience.

Dirk Rheeder

Platoon should really be on this list, and for some old school cool, The Deer Hunter. Not to mention Apocalypse Now (though that has more divided opinions)

Kage Uzumaki

Black hawk down, hacksaw ridge, and dunkirk are on true stories, which I prefer people to see since it happened in real life.

Michael_AP

Full Metal Jacket has an EPIC first part :).... I really should have written this in all caps to honour that part of the movie, but I don't wanna be rude 🙂 7 6 2 full..... metal..... jacket

Kage Uzumaki

Other recommendations lone survivor, hornets nest which is a documentary

Marko T.

Dunkirk is great. I recommend Downfall (2004).

Jeromy M

Kubrick and Nolan are obvious choices, but 'Life is beautiful' is something you can't miss. Shame, being a foreign film it never got much mainstream success.

aarswft

I'm so sorry these people are going to make you watch Full Metal Jacket.

streaky

Everybody knows that Black Hawk Down is the greatest war movie ever made - and so prescient. That said Full Metal Jacket is really good, Kubrick amiright? Film your entire movie in the UK and pretend it's the US and Vietnam because you don't like to travel - takes skill to pull that off.

braaap

Gotta be Full Metal Jacket. Anything by Stanley Kubrick is a must see and this one in particular is one of the few early ones that made the war genre a massive thing. Easily the most landmark film on this list - I'd put Dunkirk in second.

Brandon Meng

It's a crime Life is Beautiful is doing so poorly. By far my favorite movie on the list...

MacGuffinStuff

Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July are the two Oliver Stone Vietnam War movies that never make anyone's polls, which I just think is so ironic because he's the only director who was actually there. Just an observation, but there are a lot of great choices on this poll. BTW, okay so Full Metal Jacket is not a true story, it was based on a novel written by a Vietnam vet.

Marko T.

I hope you watch Mission: Impossible. It was second in the Franchises poll not Blade 2. :)

Bryce Lamkin

Damn, was hoping hacksaw ridge would be higher up on votes. A real good movie based on a medal of honor individual

Erwin Quiachon

Apocalypse Now"? Have you seen it already? Another standard Kubrick war movie is "Paths of Glory". Please also consider "The Deer Hunter", if you haven't already seen it. Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro. "A Very Long Engagement" is another classic war movie that brings back the team from "Amelie".

Mr. Writhms

“Apocalypse Now” (1979) is considered one of the best films ever made, noted in every Greatest Movie list created. You guys should get around to it one of these weeks, please. Even the documentary about the making of this film, "Hearts of Darkness" (1991), is a great film on its own.

Zeke

Platoon should definitely be on here.

Onno Smits

🎵 "What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!" 🎵

JayF

Had to go with Hacksaw Ridge as it's a true story based on a personal hero of mine. Hopefully you'll get to it some day.

lastsplash

Black Hawk Down is probably the most realistic portrayal of combat but Full Metal Jacket is a must see.

Jeff I.

Voted for Dunkirk and Fury to give them a boost, but FMJ isn't bad either. I'd recommend Lone Survivor (2013) at some point.

Adam Wetstein

@ EPBF do you mean war or Holocaust

FoH Film Club

Just film making in general FMJ and Dunkirk should be the choices imo. Kubrick is 🤌.

Allboroking

You should watch „Das Boot“ in the Director’s Cut version. It’s one of the most intense war movies I know.

Liquor & Swords

Enemy at the Gates, and U-571. Not the most accurate but good watches both. Ooh, and Memphis Belle!

P S

Kellys Heroes needs to be on best of war films, star studded cast, among them young Clint Eastwood, also it's a heist movie so win win

George Baxter

I definitely would have put 1917 on this list. Whilst Dunkirk uses time and editing as a convoluted gimmick that feels very alienating, 1917 uses a continuous take to draw you into the scale and desperation of the action.

Armchair Rizzard

I honestly think that only the first half of the movie of Full Metal Jacket is good. The rest is much less compelling. So i didn't vote for it.

Ellie

I don't think I've ever seen a YouTube reaction to 'La vite è bella'! I guess it's less known so it obviously won't win but it's an incredibly beautiful movie and you should definitely watch it, on or off camera =)

Michael Myatt

I would add "Enemy at the Gates" and "A Bridge Too Far", just as a reminder that there were other countries involved in the second world war besides the United States and Germany.

David Sumner

Black Hawk Down is my favorite war movie. The Patriot takes liberties with history to the point where it becomes inaccurate propaganda. The church scene is particularly egregious since nothing like that took place. Dunkirk is great but doesn't really work as a reaction video.

Bill Pearson

Another interesting war movie/ love story starring Daniel Day Lewis that is well done would be The Last of the Mohicans.

Alan Kobb

I get why some people like these, but frankly, I could do with fewer war pictures.

Stewart Denew

An alternative take on the war thing could be an episode of Sharpe, for some early Sean Bean, Napoleonic wars action.

David Crabtree

My top 3 from this poll are 1) The Patriot (in my top 5 favorite films), 2) Hacksaw Ridge, and 3) Black Hawk Down. Of course I think that garbage film Full Metal Jacket will win the poll.

Davide

I'd like to see Simone and George's reaction to Dunkirk. Other war movies for me to see are: Apocalypse Now, Downfall and even 1917 is very well done. I haven't seen Fury. Does it at least deserve a view?

Craig Rhymer

Patton ... The Great Escape ... The Big Red One ... The Dirty Dozen

Ty Johnson

Not a huge fan of any of these movies but the funniest reaction would probably be Full Metal Jacket

Dooly

Come and See is worth a watch.

FromDarknessComesLight

Oh god, I haven't seen Life is Beautiful in a while, but 10/10 would recommend

Samuel Eng

I would vote for Edge of Tomorrow, i mean that has war in it

Smanuelle

Shame on all of you who didn't vote for "Life is beautiful". I'm judging everyone.

Daniel

Missing Apocalypse Now unfortunately

Jeremy Harris

I've never understood the love for Full Metal Jacket. Several on this list are so much better.

Austin Working

Dunkirk and Black Hawk Down are both movies that made me feel so much tension, even on subsequent viewings. I really hope they do those at some point in the future. Full Metal Jacket is one of those movies that every movie fan should watch at least once, and the first act is amazing, but personally I don't think it has much re-watch value other than that.

JayF

Some movies that I suggest adding to the next war poll or maybe a black history month poll are Glory and The Tuskegee Airmen.

Jay Davis

Gonna deviate and only vote for 1 this time. Doubt it'll make the cut but Dunkirk. So underrated generally. But so powerful in its subtlety. Hope it makes it onto your list someday.

QuiGon_Jim (Howe)

I know I've mentioned it before. Gonna leave 'Road to Perdition' here again for you to see. I don't know if its well known enough to win a poll, but Tom Hanks, Jude Law, Daniel Craig and Paul Newman in a 30's gangster film. Recipe for greatness.

POSTALMNDCLARITY

Full metal jacket, though a great film, does not make for good reactions. The beginning of the movie, i.e., the boot camp part is incredible but the second half is meh. It's also not something for the feint of heart. Hacksaw ridge, fury, or black hawk down are better for Simone and George respectively. I know for a fact that Simone will not like full metal jacket.

Wraith

I have to say it: Full Metal Jacket is wildly overrated. While the boot camp scene is great, it's great because it is completely carried by 2 actors. The rest of the movie just falls apart and is a very meh movie, especially if you're trying to do a reaction to it. If you wanted to do a movie from the Vietnam War, 'We Were Soldiers' would be a considerably better choice (and one that's actually based on real events, instead of a director's thoughts about a war). Out of this poll, I'd much prefer to see y'all watch Hacksaw Ridge (a criminally underrated movie) or Black Hawk Down, as both are based on real events (and actually present those events pretty realistically).

Daniel Gamel

Shocked The Patriot is so low.. best on the list in my opinion.

AstralCars

+1 for Apocalypse Now

Liquor & Swords

Add Kingdom of Heaven - the director's cut, and Master & Commander, for some older wars. 👌

AC10

How about The Bourne Identity (2002)

Simon Clifton

In a change of pace, I’d like to suggest two cult(ish) British films - Withnail & I and The Full Monty. Withnail as it’s one of those films where almost every line of dialogue is quotable, 50% of the film is in the Lake District which is beautiful and it has a very simple and dangerous drinking game to go with. The Full Monty because a) it’s very British Humour and b) you’ll spend a lot of the film going “oh, it’s him from xxxxxxxxx” and c), it’ll prepare you for the film Threads one day (although it’s best to be in a good place mentally before tackling that one…)

Robert C

The Bourne trilogy would be high on my list also.

Ziggy

The Guest(2014). A very under the radar movie for most but really good.

Greg Flores

I would do an Aaron Sorkin poll. Some great movies (A Few Good Men, American President, Moneyball, Steve Jobs, The Social Network, Molly's Game) and TV shows (The West Wing, Newsroom). A little different style than what you have been reacting to.

Terry V

If you’ve ever seen the move We’re The Millars, you’ll never think of Black Hawk Down the same

Bill Pearson

If you want to see the hell of war watch Platoon. It won 4 Oscars including best picture and best director. Willem DaFoe is a star along with Charlie Sheen and Tom Berenger. It is a hard one to watch at times. Man’s inhumanity to man is a strong theme is this war picture.

SuperMachoJediKnight

platoon really should have been on the list; it's gritty, personal, and very real. i saw it in the theatre with a vet and he said it was the best portrayal he'd ever seen of his time. as a side note, i recreated the entire movie in comic form using star wars clone trooper action figures.

Spooky Dooky

Please watch K-Pax, It's weirdly heart warming. Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges.

AC10

October Sky (1999) please

Eugene Reilly

Glory (1989) - American Civil War, amazing movie
