Lethal Weapon - Patreon Version

Just going through and watching old Patreon reactions from before i joined. The elephant in a box movie that Simone mentions is a Disney movie called "Operation Dumbo Drop", starring Danny Glover and Ray Liotta (among others).

Mario

I was looking forward to this one. Amazing franchise...all four of them are great

Odd Thomas

LW 2 is the best by far. Bigger action, more comedy, better story. 3 is good but a diminishing return while 4 is best left forgotten

Marko T.

Another good movie starring Danny Glover is Predator 2. Gary Busey is in it too.

George, you mentioned Tai Chi being "an old people exercise". I'm guessing because that's how we normally see Tai Chi being used. Actually, the slow movements are the beginning stages of Tai Chi. The advanced stages are fast paced and can be a very deadly martial art. Cine-peeps, please watch all 4 movies, especially part 4, which I particularly enjoyed, being a fan of Jet Li. 😉

redddfer44

That endless analysis of the poster alone is worth the whole June patronship :D The 80s definitely were an era of "SCHWARZENEGGER. IS. THE. STARMINATOR." The characters were always named John Coolname.

Dirk Rheeder

You should definitely watch the others, they are all very good, and some may say they get better with each one ? :) At the very least they are all very enjoyable.

Dirk Rheeder

As for Gary Busey, he used to be a "normal" guy. Then on December 4, 1988, Busey was severely injured in a motorcycle accident in which he was not wearing a helmet. His skull was fractured, and he suffered permanent brain damage. He's been a little unhinged ever since, though continued to find work.

I loved all four of them. To me anyway 2 is my least favorite, but still enjoy watching it. 1 is the best, sure, but 4 might be my favorite of them. Never saw the show, I took it to be a retelling of it all. It didn't actually capture my interest.

Gibson is what he is as a person but he also is an incredible actor when given the chance to be so. He's also a great director. I'm sure you'll get suggestions such as Braveheart, We Were Soldiers, Maverick, and such. All of those are good movies but one that seems to get looked over is Conspiracy Theory. He's got a scene in that that's as intense as the one in Lethal Weapon, just in a different way. I highly recommend you react to that one. Plus it has Julia Roberts and Patrick Stewart.

Honestly, I think Lethal Weapon is a good franchise that never had a great entry. There is, in my mind, some sort of melding of 1 and 2 into one movie that would be Die Hard-level, but I find the desert stuff in this to be a drag on the pace, and...I guess the best non-spoilery way to phrase my criticism of 2 without spoiling anything is that it expands on an element from this in a cheap way, both in terms of the convenience of the idea, and the hack and unpleasant consequences for a side character.

Patrick Evans

The TV show is more of a procedural cop drama based on these characters. The actor who played Riggs (Mel Gibson's character) was fired after the second season due to him apparently not being safe to work with. They killed the character off and tried a third season but it didn't last after that.

OLD DUDE ANSWERS QUESTIONS: -When the Police Shrink is talking to the Captain about Riggs' issues, she says his wife of 11 years died in a car accident very recently. (It's OK 😊 You were rightly distracted by the super-regressive attitude towards Mental Health.) -The Fight on the Lawn was "justified" through a single ADR line from Murtaugh "That sonofa***** just killed two of our men" and that's why the cops follow Murtaugh's clearly improper order. It's still bananas, and many critics called that part out as ludicrous at the time. -"Cochise" is a reference to old Western movie tropes. A Cowboy hero referring to his First Nation sidekick by a casually offensive, generalized nickname. In reality Cochise was a Chiricahua Apache leader in the 1860's and fought against Mexican and U.S. incursions. Great reaction! BTW, George...If you loved the Anti-Apartheid sticker and it's prominent placement, (which...hell yeah) Lethal Weapon 2 is a good follow-up.

Smellwell

I used to care what actors did outside of movies, but then it got tiring being like, in my own head "Yeah this guy is a jerk but he sure can act" That's no way to watch a movie. At this point, I don't pay any mind to an actor's faults off camera

Armchair Rizzard

True, but also a lot of Tai Chi "masters" are frauds, and its not really useful in a real fight.

Torsten Maekler

I think 2 and 3 are worth watching. So bring them up in the polls. More Gibson: - Apocalypto (2006) # but mostly great visuals - Braveheart (1995) # touching story

Brian Landers

Please continue. All four are so much fun!!!!

Robert C

The rest of the franchise is well worth watching.

Monica Alarcon

I haven't seen the Lethal Weapon movies in aaages... I remember the 2nd one was my favorite, 3 is just good and you should stick with this series if only to see Riggs And Murtaugh fight Jet Li in 4

Thomas Yanez

They were both actually staring at the screen not talking when the police shrink gave the line about his wife having died, so not sure how they missed it.

David Crabtree

Love this film series! Number 3 is definitely my favorite. If you think Danny Glover looks young for 50, it's because he was actually 40 when he filmed this. And Mel Gibson was 30 here, but his Riggs character was 38.

Ron Moses

Look up the name Shane Black. It's a name you wanna know. He wrote this, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3, and The Nice Guys, among several others. Most of his screenplays take place at Christmas, and his style is very identifiable.

Andrew

I don't know if you two have seen it, but if you've never watched It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, you absolutely should. That show has a hilarious running gag about this movie.

Jay Davis

2, 3 and 4 were definitely cashing in on the franchise imo. But are perfectly serviceable, popcorn action flicks. You won't regret watching any of them, I think.

ChickensAreRacist

Y’all. Simone, wanna see you do stand up. You too, George! Wanna see y’all’s stand up!

Ry Jo

imo I think 2 is my favorite.... maybe because as a kid it

Ry Jo

imo I think 2 is my favorite.... maybe because as a kid it's the only one we had on laser disk.. lol but 2 is awesome imo. also Busy and Glover are both in predator 2

Mike Adams

Anyone happen to be building a list of Simone's biggest fears?

Jack Urmson

If you like “crazy Mel Gibson” he was the original Mad Max. The Road Warrior is an essential action movie. So many incredible stunts in that film.

Endling_king

this is one of my favorite movies. in regards to the fight at the end between Riggs and Mr. Joshua, I always thought it was because they are both special forces and so it was a kind of contest between them to see whos better. plus they justified letting the fight happen because he killed 2 officers so they were more then happy to beat the crap out of him.

redddfer44

"My random thoughts being compiled into a list on the internet" is probably one of them :D

Chris Lüders

Since you asked why they ended up fighting, first of all, because they threatened Riggs, Murthaugh, and especially Murthaugh's family, who were not involved. Also, this was a longer plan, as Hunsaker tried to talk to Murtaugh, and Joshua set himself up as 'boyfriend' of Murtaugh's daughter. Further, they tortured Riggs and Murtaugh, and Riggs in particular also wants to punish Joshua personally and knows he can fight well enough to beat him. Additionally, Joshua took the whole situation back to a personal level by showing up at the Murtaughs' home again and killed two officers. Finally, the situation is seemingly certain anyway, Joshua will not escape, but Riggs has stated earlier in the film that 'he ran into some Shadow Company pussies' in Saigon. Two different special forces who absolutely dislike each other, so he and at least some members of the Shadow Company had a conflict even then. Besides these 'reasons' - it's the 80s, just getting him arested would have been boring, so let's have a nice fight and with that the build up for them to shoot Joshua together as he takes the officer's gun. 😊 The other films are on the same level I would say, so well worth watching. Personally, I really liked the series too, but a lot of people dismissed it because it (obviously) wasn't with Danny Glover and Mel Gibson. But a lot of stuff from the movies is incorporated into the series in one form or another, and I personally thought the leads played very well in the series, and you don't realize that they didn't actually get along during filming. 😉 Oh and lastly, yes in this movie the meme 'I'm too old for this shit!' started. 😂

Opti_Frog

I sort of enjoy this movie, but i roll my eyes so hard at the final fight that my head tilts back.

Scott McClintock

Joshua did not set himself up as Rianne's boyfriend. Her boyfriend was a 17yr old, and he was killed when they kidnapped her. The call to Murtaugh from dispatch was "We got a body for you. Male caucasian, age 17"

Studio KUJIRA

The only dislike I have on this channel is only reacting to the first film on so many franchise films. I'd assume fans would wanna see your reactions/watch along to the sequels just as much if not more.

PIG

I saw this as a kid and enjoyed it. Tried to watch it again with you guys… couldn’t do it… ooof. Not good stuff.

Kate Suhr

I agree would like to see reactions to the other lethal weapon movies.
