The Expanse: Season 2 - Episode 3 & 4 - Patreon Version

Comments

Benjamin Chase

It's weird and slightly upsetting that Martian marines are comfortable being called "soldiers".

Bert Johnson

I know you time stamp it, but it doesn't sync with Amazon's time stamps and that's so annoying.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Okay I'm on board, I watched it once already just on my own, tried to watch with another reactor but it was too distracting, but now I'm ready for a rewatch with the Cinebinge 🤗 Agreed, it also makes me want to rewatch Game of Thrones, and, silver lining, we have two years to do so before the next season of THIS show. Or I could finally read some of the books?

Re: framerates. Some helpful person here (thank you!) wrote during The Wire that it can be done in the browser as well. At least in Chrome, open the full reaction to Youtube (not Patreon), press F12 and just copypaste this line into what opens and press enter: $('video').playbackRate = 1.0417;

Vegard

Just putting this out there; you should be very careful about running JavaScript code in your browser that a random person on the internet tells you to run, unless you know what you are doing, and what the code does. Now this obviously just adjusts the playback rate of the video, so it's safe. But always think twice, as this is an easy way to get hacked.

They had to make sure all the airlocks were sealed with nuclear detonations because it would have taken months for Eros to spiral into the Sun after the Nauvoo slammed into it. Eros is about 135 million miles from the Sun, so anyone could have traveled to Eros and tried to gain entrance to it during those months. Of course, Eros has different plans...

There's a second point on drifting which is you guys are watching the scify not the amazon version which is probably cut marginally different and includes previously on (and the opening credits is in a different place) just to complicate matters. Not sure if the two episodes 3/4 worked out great or really terribly - you're going to get the last episode of the first book and the first episode of the second one next time which could be interesting.

Gábor Árki

It is not a frame rate issue. The version I have access to on streaming is also native 24p but the editing is a bit different compared to your version. In my case there is no "previously on" at the beginning, sometimes the opening sequence is sometimes edited into a different place (like Ep2) and mainly the scene changes where the screen goes dark (probably the commercial break points) are seconds shorter in your version compared to mine.

Jack Burton

I don't get why George thinks the Mormon's are 'powerful'. They aren't in the politics, they have no army, and they aren't trying to persuade anyone to do anything. All they did was save money to have a big-ass ship built so they can leave humanity behind and start fresh. I don't get where the 'power' idea is coming from.

Monica Alarcon

You guys should watch the Baymax and Zootopia shorts on disney plus, not necesaraly for the channel but just to enjoy... the Godfather part II episode of Zootopia was amazing...

WarWulf

There're some minor editing changes (not counting the recap/credits at the beginning) but nothing I can't put up with. Hopefully doesn't break it for too many people either.

WarWulf

All valid points, I think he's picking up on them being the only religious faction that's really been mentioned so far. Also, they're building the biggest interstellar craft in the system (really a monumental task that shows their dedication more than power, but there may be power there too).

WarWulf

Holden having to take action against the doctor... the doctor kinda reminds me of early season one Holden. That's got to hurt.

Monica Alarcon

You should watch Gravity by Alfonso Cuarón... it's like a feature length space-walk

Tenn Seven

Believe it or not George, if you try to knock something into the sun it takes a long time to get there, and while it's on its way people could intercept it.

Thomas Yanez

Yeah, in watching with past reactors to this show, it is the commercial breaks and different lead-in titles that are usually at fault, not a framerate issue here.

Logan Kerlee

So yeah, I'm not going to stop watching now. Not a chance! xD I'll be back once they post more but I'm going to keep on going. :) Really enjoyed these episodes! Great stuff. Looking forward to more..

Thomas Yanez

For people with issues syncing : in most cases, for many shows out there, what George talked about at the beginning is correct, but for "The Expanse", depending on where you... you know... obtained... your copies of the early SyFy Channel seasons, you may be dealing something completely different. It isn't a frame rate issue. The versions that aired on SyFy are different from the Amazon versions in two big ways - the opening credits are played at a different point, and the SyFy versions have longer pauses at the points where there would have been commercial breaks. So, you don't see a gradual shift like you would with a frame rate issue. At the beginning, there are glaring jumps in sync due to the optional inclusion of the "previously" section and the location of opening credit sequence. Then Cinebinge's video will stay nicely in sync (once you've adjusted for the aforementioned) until the SyFy version has its first commercial break, then it will lose sync by a second or two. This will repeat through the rest of the episode. If you set a play rate change as described by George and in the comments above, it will not help. You have to manually adjust for the opening credits/previously and occasional commercial breaks. T he rest of the time it stays in sync. Look at episode 4 for an example : the version they are watching starts with a "previously" and then goes into the opening credits. The SyFy version starts with a "previously", then the episode starts and it isn't until almost the 7 minute mark that they show the opening credit sequence. once you get back in sync after that, except or the aforementioned one or two second pauses at commercial breaks, the show should stay in sync.

What happened to The Wire reactions?

Florian Hoyer

the syn issue is i think because of where u watch it. on amazon germany i have littel black pics and the preview is not there, also the intro is on another place. I guess other nations have it differently strangly but its not THAT hard i just have to jump a few sec all few minutes and harder to sync at start but is totaly doable

Andrew Smith

Yea its a little annoying but the episodes aren't that long so its manageable.

BenJuan26

Glad to see that George's skeptical "Okay..." after episode 4 was a little less skeptical than usual :)

Florian Hoyer

they blocked the coms by the same reasons the wanted to nuke the entryway, the journey to the sun would have beend months for eros to the sun

Peter Dillard

You guys can try one of the parabola aircraft rides ('vomit comet') to get an experience like floating in space.

Abush

So the reason they were able to override the airlock that simply is actually something super simple. The Roci is a martian miltary class ship and simply has superior computing power as compared to the regular run of the mill rental. Bigger better computer hack much smaller worse computer. That's it.

Thomas Yanez

Not enough credit is given to the ship itself, and its capabilities, for what the crew is able to accomplish. The Roci is a powerful tool.

Pajander

So I realize Miller was kinda done anyway and wanted to stay, but why can't you just space duct tape something over the control panel? I'm guessing it's not a capacitive screen since it's supposed to be used with space gloves on.

Pajander

Haha well I just now watched the next episode where George asks the same thing.
