Sequel is better than the first by far too

Gareth Evans is Welsh. Everything he has done has been genre defining and brilliant. The way he uses the camera in action sequences will be imitated as soon as the rest of the world learns how to catch up. Evans met his Indonesian wife at university in Wales. They decided that his chances of directing action movies in Wales was not as good as in Indonesia. Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) was their sensai in the martial art of pencat silat, the art of striking with elbows and knees. Both Ruhian and Iko Uwais (Rama) briefly appeared in Star Wars: ep VII (Force Awakens) and Ruhian also fought John Wick in his third movie. Gangs of London is sublime and very VERY violent. Apostle is also very disturbing. And Evans' short horror movie on V/H/S/ 2 is just bananas.

djKENTO

almost 2 years still waiting on that sequel reaction homies.

PureGonzo

Hahah that’s crazy timing, I just now came here to say the same thing :(

The Fool

My body is ready

Hey guys, it would be helpful if you not only gave the run time of the movie but state what version as well. There is only a 1 minute difference in run time between the unrated and theatrical releases on this one. So I'm going with the unrated in hopes that it's the one you are watching.

sarCC

What the what?! What an awesome surprise! Xmas came early this year!

Foodassassin4life

Just watched it and it is the unrated version. Since I'm watching the regular version I jumped ahead a little bit but with some pausing on my end I was able to sync back up very easily

The scene where the police guy with the knife and the short but lethal sub boss (Yayan Ruhian) with a gun are kneeling and pointing their weapons at each other is a homage to a scene from the John Woo/Chow Yun-fat movie 'Hard Boiled'. Not only is that image taken from the movie, the name of the sub-boss is Mad Dog, named after a similar lethal sub-boss in Hard Boiled.

Spacedone

Yayan Ruhian started training in Pencak Silat at an early age and became a trainer worldwide in that martial art. Both he and Iko Uwais not only acted in this movie, they were the fight coordinators of the movie.

The Fool

Also definitely react to the second one please and thank you

I am so happy that you both watched this! This is such a great movie and I'd be VERY happy if you both watched the sequel. It's also VERY good. I really hope that this performs well.. but if it doesn't, put that on top of the list for things to watch on the JUST FOR PATREON list. In any case, I think you should give YouTube more credit, I think they'll dig on this and the others, or at least I hope they do. Watching this was such a pleasure. A lot of fun and plenty of laughs as well. Simone just didn't know what to expect. :P Looking forward to whatever's next! :D

Matt

This film inspired so many other action films that came after, things like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Nobody

Matt

The sequel is even better so definitely check it out too

Ragnar Lothbrok

Totally agreed. Redemption is awesome, but it felt to me more like a showcase of skills of overyone involved, director, choreographers, stuntmen etc. Berandal is more coherent and it feels like an actual movie.

redddfer44

6:30: hands up who *didn't* see that coming :D

Monica Alarcon

I wish we could get a "next week" heads up like on youtube so we can get the movies with the propper version ready to watch.

Com1xguy

The Night Comes for Us is another great film in the same vein as The Raid. Way crazier and intense.

Some background info, Gareth evans was making a documentary in Indonesia, in it he took a look at Pencak Silat (Pen-chak See-Laht), which lead to him meeting Iko Uwais (who was only a delivery man at the time) and thought he had star potential. Evans being a martial arts enthusiast and aspiring film maker put him in a film called Merantau Warrior, which did okay, a few years later while casting The Raid Joe Taslim messaged Evans on Facebook for a part, because he loved Merantau, and against everyones advice Evans hired him, and that's how he got the role of Jaka. Anyway I'm here for any and all martial arts films on this channel, and hope to see you do the sequel. Side note: I missed out on meeting Evans by 20 minutes, in his home country of Wales, when I went to watch Raid 2 and he had just taken his Nan to watch it

Anyone who wants to see more from Gareth Evans, I highly recommend a series called “Gangs of London.” Currently on Season 2 on AMC+. Absolutely brilliant action drama series. Some of the craziest action sequences I’ve seen on television.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Well okay then, my buddy was right. He's been hounding me to watch this movie for years. Fucking AWESOME. Why haven't I watched it before now? Just to irritate my friend lol. But this is a guy who will watch ANY movie from two specific genres, Horror and Action, he also likes some sci-fi, loves raunchy comedies, and vintage porn. Hate to say but he has impeccable taste in all those genres, but this is a guy you can't get to watch a drama without at least some female frontal nudity. Fuck, I'm gonna have to admit he was right about this one though.

John Wick definitely got plenty of "can't just walk it off"-moments, arguably more so than The Raid, imho. Dude gets it, like, a lot, not that either movie is super realistic in that respect.

Jeremy O Dwyer

The sequel is incredible! Hope you guys watch it.

Jeremy O Dwyer

Gareth Evans also directed a pretty cool Wicker Man style horror film starring Dan Stevens called Apostle.

Jeremy O Dwyer

Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park did the soundtrack.

Dakota

I love this movie! I'm so glad you got around to reacting to it, and wholly support watching classic Jackie Chan movies. Rumble in the Bronx was my introduction to Jackie, but I would love to see reactions to Police Story and Legend of Drunken Master 2.

Tenn Seven

Lol. George doesn't know what a World of Warcraft raid is.

Tenn Seven

Simone's reactions were completely hilarious throughout. "So many knees to the face!"
