Greatest ending credits in movie history, not even close. Also, I have actually cried the way Ted cried at the end, over lost love. Loud. Ridiculous. Beyond tragic. So I REALLY felt Ted's loss there, as absurd as this film is. It's weird how weirdly accurate it is. Just stupendous hilarity mingling with sublime themes. Throw in some guys singing in a tree, and you have a classic.

About the sting at the public rest stop: anti-sodomy statutes were still in effect in a majority of states at the time, and weren't revoked until the Supreme Court decision in 2003 called Lawrence v. Texas. Also, in the late 90s, while online social media was still in its infancy, it wasn't uncommon for people to find old acquaintances online through services like America Online, Prodigy, and CompuServe. People made profiles and were more carefree with using their real names. Besides that, a competent private investigator wouldn't be too thwarted in looking someone up who'd changed her last name.

At the risk of repeating others, the guy singing in the tree (and throughout) is Johnathan Richmond. He was a cutting edge "New Wave", not quite "Punk" artist in the late 70's with his band, "Johnathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers". Their most famous song is "Road Runner", my favorite song of theirs of all time was "Nobody Ever Called Pablo Picasso an Asshole" (... or was that just the chorus?). Anyway, it is such a strong choice to have him do the music!

I don't think I have ever seen you two laugh as hard during that scene which brought me to tears. It has also been like 13 years since I have watched this one.

tristan renaut

Please can we lighten the foot on comedies ?

Lindsay G

While I personally agree (more variety is better), the harsh reality is that these type of american crass comedies seem to perform better on youtube.

MikeBdrx

I personally enjoy seeing Simone and George laugh.

JayF

I don't mind comedies, though I do expect elements of this one did not age well. I know you'll love the other bits though.

Lindsay G

Nobody's taking issue with them doing comedies or enjoying themselves.

redddfer44

Theatrical cut, because someone is wondering without starting the video.

Odd Thomas

Oh well, at least we've got The Shining and Twister to look forward to.

Bruce Bromley

Farrelly Brothers films especially . They didn't shy away from hiring disabled actors.

Charlie Keeler

and Brett as a "good guy", welp history has shown other wise. Was QB of Green Bay Packers, has exposed himself to a lady, allegedly stole millions from welfare recipients to build a volley ball arena at his alma mater ...soooo yeah

Florian Geyer

I have a Ben Stiller movie to recommend, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

MikeBdrx

Also the step dad is Keith David, He was in THE THING, and one of the best voice over actors IMO also he is in THEY LIVE another good movie I hope yall get around too one day

Drew

Pretty sure I saw George's soul leave his body with the hair gel bit

Monica Alarcon

Can't find the theatrical version anywhere... gonna have to try watching with the extended version...

Generators

lmao same here. funny ironic that in previous comedies ppl complained about not having extended or directors cut and went on and on about theatrical. now they do a theatrical and...

Joits

Do the people outside of the US have access to Tubi? It's free on that site.

Travis

You guys have been hitting the comedic bangers recently 💪🏽

Monica Alarcon

OMG I've never rewatched a part of a reaction so many times before... I must have seen the hair gel reaction like 12 times in a row... I was laughin and in tears everytime!!

Ben

Just wanted to say, I've had a rough couple of days, wasn't feeling so great when I woke up this morning, but re-watching this silly 90's comedy, and seeing you two enjoy it so much, really did give me a pick me up. Thanks Simone & George :)

JayF

Harlan Williams (the hitchhiker) was the cop that drank the piss/beer in Dumb and Dumber. If you ever get to Down Periscope (which you eventually should) he has more screen time. He's pretty funny. Down Periscope has Lauren Holly from Dumb and Dumber as well.

Joits

with ads but you do get a few seconds warning so you can pause their video

Dustin Lollar

Woogie was the cameraman from Groundhog Day. Also if you watch the credits Brett tried to touch Warrens headphones after Ted walked out and Warren attacked him. So she knew that it wasn't Brett, it was Ted. Also the actor that played Warren is W. Earl Brown and he is an AMAZING actor, he was the sheriff in Preacher and was also the bartender in the Mandalorian. Also the Camera guy in Scream. Great reaction guys. Also the Farrelly Brothers also made a whole series of movies with this type of humor. They also use all their friends in the movies too so alot of the same actors. Btw Please put Me, Myself and Irene on the poll. It's another Farrelly Bros movies with Jim Carrey as the lead with a split personality.

George... You asked if it is illegal to have sex in public in America. However, just as a public service to our friends to the north, I thought I would address a different question. "Is it illegal to have sex in public in Canada?" Section 173 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada 173 (1) Everyone who wilfully does an indecent act in a public place in the presence of one or more persons, or in any place with intent to insult or offend any person, (a) is guilty of an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term of not more than two years; or (b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction If you feel that the term "indecent act" is vague, it is on purpose. It is generally it is used by the police to charge those who engage in sexual activity, masterbation, exposing their genitals, and other similar acts in a public place. By the way, yes, each of the United States has similar statutes. Some states are looser, for example, some states allow some limited clothing-optional beaches, but otherwise the law is not terrmbly different. So, make sure you put on your pants before going out in public.

Yes, Harold and Maude is AMAZING. Not sure how popular it would be on the channel, but it's amazing. It's definitely not a romcom in the way that most people think of the genre these days. The Apartment (from 1960) is also worth checking out. There's definitely something 90s about the setup and obsessed stalker guy being completely normal. Then again, I kinda think that his stalking was more of a clueless dork not knowing what's proper or not (in the 90s especially), rather than him being a total sleazeball who's trying to abuse whatever he learns. I can no longer watch the movie to check out the details of what he wanted to learn, though. He was curious, the others were manipulative. A guy being obsessed with a girl for half his life is unhealthy, but I guess there's a sort of romcom logic of "soul mates" going on there. I'm glad that at least he learned his lesson. And maybe this is a hot take, but he did better than get proportionately punished: he himself sought out his biggest competitor. He made concrete and unselfish reparations to make up for his mistakes and not out of fear of being punished either or being otherwise forced to own up to them. He admitted to himself and to Mary that he fucked up, did the right thing and was genuinely willing to give her up and move on. I think it's admirable to be able to do that. Movie logic of things moving on at an unnatural speed again, but hey, I can accept it this time around at least. I thought the movie had a surprising amount of heart for a premise as iffy as this.

Travis

That was Brett Favre. He was the QB for the Packers in the 90s. He was recently in the news for colluding with politicians in Georgia to siphon millions of dollars out of the welfare system to build a new volleyball stadium at his daughters college. Mary knows how to pick ‘em.

Thomas Wendel

Benji was a very popular dog who started in a movie or tv movie in the early 70's. Several movies actually. Very kid friendly. Anyone who grew up as a kid in the 70s knew Benji. I think that was part of the joke watching Benji go nuts and attack. Like Mr Rogers doing that

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Yeah George, don't ruin it lol! Let us have our Cameron Diaz + Ben Stiller fantasy. Plus, everyone knows she left Brett Favre because she's from Minnesota (Vikings territory) and he was Green Bay's QB (Wisconsin, they're rivals), although she's a Niners fan anyway so idk wtf I'm talking about, but remember Mary is a huge sports fan. Anyway, now you guys gotta watch more Farrelly's, especially Kingpin. And I don't know if anyone mentioned it already but the two piece band in this were the actual Farrelly brothers. A couple other good EARLY Ben Stiller movies are "Flirting With Disaster" and "Permanent Midnight", first is a comedy, second is more of a dark comedy based on a true story. BTW, have you seen The Ben Stiller Show? It was cancelled way too early, early 90s, was I think the first thing he did, before movies, remember it being hilarious, really clever satirical stuff. Oh, sorry, one last trivia tidbit, there's a reference to this in Ready Player One, Artemis refers to Parzival's "Something About Mary" hairdo

lespea

Probably the greatest feel-good movie ever. Not a fan of the beginning but once they get to the helicopter it's just such a euphoric high watching it play out. I really don't like Ben Stiller but wow he was stellar in that.

Kevin Bartelen

I love how EVERYTHING gets put into the ending credits song. Also, as for the ending itself... Ted chose to give her up in favor of HER happiness. Yeah, there's no real reason given for her leaving Brett, but Ted shows that he actually cares about her, not just an obsession. I don't have a problem with him getting the girl in the end.

BND

There's an extended version of this movie where Jeffrey Tambor's character is shown to be a recovering drug addict but he falls off the wagon. He also owns a pet python that's not shown in the theatrical cut. Anyway, when Ben Stiller goes to his apartment and meets the other two guys you notice that Healy is calling for Sully and he's nowhere to be found, well turns out that Sully had gone on a drug binge and OD'd and his python ate him, they show the python in the corner of the room with Sully in its belly. It's pretty fucked up!

Martin

Some more comedy recommendations: The Dictator (Sasha Baron Cohen). Stepbrothers (Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly), and This Is The End (Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jonah Hill, etc).

Persnickity

In order of questions asked. If someone is a duece/ duece and a half. Duece is like duo it means 2. That means she is 200 - 250lbs. Brett Favre is a football legend. I don't sportsball but he is super famous in American Football. In current history (he was a star then and won a few more superbowls since). It is similar to not knowing Micheal Jordan for basketball. Love yalls reactions please keep at it. Not that fiscally its a good idea but i would love to hear you play DnD with people.

Martin

I want to watch Simone play Elden Ring, just so I know there is someone out there who gets as frustrated with it as I do.

Canonman28

Yes Norm is British, Lee Evans who plays him is a stand up comedian, well was. Has since retired 😂 and his shows have a lot of energy just like when he was trying to pick up his keys

JokerDanny

Lee Evans is one of the greatest British comedians of all time. I recommend the movie Mousehunt, he's great in that to. He was even in an episode of Doctor Who with David Tennant

Alex Ch

Here in the great comedy debate id really like to suggest Freaks and Geeks for a Patreon tv series. I haven’t seen it reacted to yet, it’s a brilliant funny classic, and it’s one season and out.

Ben

I made that same suggestion a couple of weeks ago! great shout, hope they consider it.

Logan Kerlee

Holy crap you two, this movie is awesome! Such a fun watch. I'm GLAD that I figured a way to watch this along with you both. I really enjoyed watching this with you both. lol, so you both know - Brett Favre is/was the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. He's (or was) a VERY well known football player that brought his team to the Superbowl a number of times. Not surprised that you both don't know this but now ya do. :) I've found a good number of people over the years after high school. It can be a bit of a challenge with a name change but it's possible. THAT HAIR GEL SCENE.. wow! It's so hilarious! It's a CLASSIC! It's crazy that you both haven't watched this before. I watched this when it first came out. Not in theaters though, I was too young at the time, but once it got released a buddy brought it over and oh wow, it was so great watching this for the first time. Glad you both enjoyed. :)
