Savor this moment George, it's the furthest possible time before being asked "The Wire S4 when?!"

Jay Davis

I wonder when they'll do The Wire Season 3. Hmm.

dom

today is a good day 🙌

redddfer44

I’m a weirdo, then, because one of the main reasons I’m a Patron is just to hear more of your dillydallying and bullshit before the main event!

Jay

The deacon that Bunny Colvin was talking to at the end of episode 2 is played by Melvin Williams. He was a big time dealer in Baltimore back in the 70s and Avon is partially based on him. Stringer even mentions Melvin in conversation later in the show.

Jeff K

It will never not be hilarious to me that Stringer runs his meetings through Robert's Rules of Order

Black Heart Games

Let's go! So happy to see you guys back on The Wire. :)

Moon Logic

Hi, this is George from Cinebinge. I have cancer, but I don't have insurance. Please donate to my paypal. If I die from cancer, I won't be able to make more videos. This is Simone. Please, help George. I don't want to do this alone.

GBmain

It's been 84 years... oh so glad we're back on The Wire... from memory this is one of my favourite seasons, at least as far as action goes

Astraeos

My joy is immeasurable and my day is completely made. Wasn't expecting Season 3 so soon. Here we go baby!

Astraeos

Ok wait, so, point of clarification. For all these spammers on Youtube, should we be going to their actual profile and reporting them from there, or is reporting the comment as being spam fine and it accomplishes the same thing? Because I've just been reporting the comment itself on these spam accounts, not actually clicking on the profile, going to it, and then reporting the profile from there.

Cinebinge

either will be okay :), just be certain it is a spam. dont want to misreport innocent ppl

Stu84

You guys have no idea where this season is going. You'll be rooting for Bunny Colvin i guarantee it.

Michael Kang-Beats

What problem do you have with Rhonda and Cedric? Seems weird to have problem with it.

Jay

Surprised you're not rooting for Colvin yet. Pretty sure I bought my 'I ❤️ Bunny Colvin' t-shirt right after that paper bag speech:)

Martin

Wait, you’re continuing with The Wire?!? When was this decided and why weren’t we notified? (Okay, just needed to get that last hackneyed joke out of my system).

Wavon Barksdale

Seasons 3 & 4 of The Wire are some of the best television ever! Savor it

Boyan Konov

A big theme of this season is change and reform all the new characters added are trying to change the world around them or themselves but the system wont allow them. So keep an eye open for that and how Stringers plot line develops in parallel with Cutty, Bunny, Marlo and Carcetti.

Jeff K

And on that same note, Bunny’s mustachioed right hand man is the real life Jay Landsman. As in, that man is actually named Jay Landsman and was a real cop. He’s also the inspiration for Detective Munch in the Homicide/Law & Order universe.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Something that you may have missed - Cutty might look familiar from another series you've watched here. An Expansive series involving space stations and an accused butcher of a particular space station.

Jeff K

My second favorite character, after Cool Lester Smooth. Bunny is fucking awesome and only gets better.

The towers were owned by the city. Low income housing projects (or "the projects" as they're usually known) were built up in the sixties and seventies in a lot of larger cities as a solution for those who needed low income housing. Unfortunately those cities then neglected those projects and allowed them to fall into disrepair. Cities like Baltimore and Chicago ended up demolishing most of their housing projects after dropping the ball on keeping them safe and maintained. NY is is a notable exception to this, where a lot of projects still exist, even though they also have a reputation for being underfunded, poorly policed, and poorly maintained.

Richard Copping

The first time I watched The Wire, the first few episodes of season 1 and season 2 both took some effort, but by the start of season 3 I was fully on board. Been so looking forward to you getting here!

Richard Copping

Each season starts with a scene that sets up the upcoming season. It’s the 2000s, and this one starts with two towers being destroyed…

Stephanie Bedworth

They've been showing Daniels and Rhonda working closely together for a while now so I don't think it's too much of a leap to think that's developed into a mutual attraction. I thought they always had good chemistry.

Travis H

When are you two starting S4 of The Wire? (Sorry I couldn’t help myself, and I regret it immediately! Don’t do this fellow patrons) Thrilled you made it to season 3, it is my 2nd favorite season. Looking forward to watching later tonight, the S3 Ep1 tab has been sitting on my HBO Max home page mocking me for months. I’m assuming after S3 you will go to Mandalorian then come back to The Wire. But on the next opening can we consider doing a true comedy series? I don’t think you have done a tv comedy yet. Two suggestions are Ted Lasso and Good Place, you could finish comedy seasons in 2-3 weeks because the episodes lengths are short.

Travis

YISSSSSSSSSS

____

I got the impression that it’s just rough to see such amazing acting talents who are no longer alive anymore. There’s quite a few in this show, and it’s rough to wrap your mind around.

____

Thank you both, George & Simone. I’ll do my best to help however I can. Cheers.

Jeff K

Would love to see either of those shows. Great palate cleanser after shows like Chernobyl, TLOU, and The Wire, given how heavy the subject matter can get with those shows.

Travis

Simone you’re right about the new character. George is wrong. Avon said “we can always use good soldiers” implying he was a good soldier before not that he wants him to take any form of step down. George’s assumptions are way off here.

Haye Zeus

Yeah y’all ain’t ready for this season.

Gary Fixler

The new guy who did 14 years in prison is Chad L. Coleman, Fred Johnson from The Expanse. He was also Tyreese on The Walking Dead, and Klyden on The Orville.

redddfer44

Interesting! I've seen this years ago but remember surprisingly little. I thought S3 is the easiest to get into thus far. The new characters intrigued me from the get-go.

Ragnar Lothbrok

this is a great season. my fav probably, along with s4. Bunny Colvin is the goat.

Ken Quick

Wow, I picked exactly the right time to become a Patreon. Just binged the season 1-2 reactions and BOOM, here's S3.

*This year's version of Way Down in the Hole was recorded by the Neville Brothers, as the dock imagery from last season is replaced by images of construction and political posters. *In addition to the return of Detective Sydnor (who was absent in S2) we meet Baltimore Mayor Clarence Royce, 1st District Councilman Tommy Carcetti, Dennis "Cutty" Wise, and Detective Caroline Massey (who has a better ear for street lingo than even Prez). Major Coleman we met in Season 2, but here we see his 2nd in command Dennis Mello, played by the real Jay Landsman (he doesn't have a lot of screen time but pay attention when he's there, as his thick Bawl'mer accent is the most authentic in the series. (Since I happened to watch The Wire when it first aired, i spent the bulk of Game of Thrones referring to Littlefinger as Carcetti or Tommy.) *Since we are being introduced to local politics this season, it's worth noting that one of the images added to the opening credits is a cluster of campaign signs, including one for Nancy Pelosi. Though she represents the city of San Francisco in Congress, Ms Pelosi is was born and raised in Baltimore. Both her father and her brother served as Mayor of Baltimore. *Bill Rawls finds the perfect outlet for his assholery running the COMSTAT meetings, or should I say eviscerations. Those meetings contrast nicely with those of the Barksdale organization under Chairman Stringer Bell, run strictly under Robert's Rules of Order.

Jay

'I spent the bulk of Game of Thrones referring to Littlefinger as Carcetti or Tommy.' I do that with pretty much everyone in The Wire. Doesn't matter how many great Creed films Michael B Jordan stars in, he'll always be Wallace to me. Dominic West will always be McNulty, Idris Elba will always be Stringer and so on:)

redddfer44

Yep, same here. Two competent, lonely, good-looking people working closely together for an extended period of time.

rkhc

It's kind of unfortunate that they started off with that misconception, because there are these touching humanizing scenes of his internal conflict where you can kind of just see George's brain go 'Baah, **** this guy, they're building him up to be the kingpin one day,' heh.

The Film Effect

Finally! I’m so ready for this! This is why I got the Patreon.

Just to play devil's advocate... Isn't Kima's partner at least as much responsible (I'd say considerably more) for the tension with having the child? Nothing we've seen has ever indicated that Kima's thoughts have changed on the subject (no spoilers for future episodes). But Cheryl had repeatedly been portrayed (to be fair, in trop-ish cop spouse fashion) as a ballbuster, so to speak. It would have been her idea to have the child, and her pressure on Kima to go along, regardless of the consequences. Classic motherhood narcissism, in which she herself is the central beneficiary (a child will make her life complete), above the interests of her partner, and more importantly, above the best interest of the child, as well.

bruh i will never understand why the need to speak over entire conversations worth of dialogue lol no offense, just curious about the decision, especially with a show like the Wire that is dense with vital information, and isn't as braindead or hand-holdy as other shows and will divulge entire arcs of plot points in a single 15 second scene that will never be explained again. Example: completely missed the funny parts of the "dawg" scene with Cheese... and completely missed that it was because of the dog fight that the initial gang war started lol

Meanwhile, I fricking LOVE Ronnie and Daniels. I was unclear if you thought they had been together before now and we're just seeing it, or just didn't like the new pairing, but to clarify -- they weren't together before, Ronnie just made her move. And I can't believe you guys didn't like it. His marriage is over (and it seemed a very chilly one to begin with) and they both deserve so much better than their previous partners. And they're both awesome and gorgeous and smart. Love them. As far as Kima and her wife -- we did get scenes in season 1 that showed that her wife was getting fertility treatments, so the child was something they had seemingly both agreed on and were pursuing. It just feels like Kima hasn't been affected by the situation as she had expected to be.
