It's really throwing me off just how well Simone's face fits on Sandler's head.

nossieboy

Go To Your Home George!!!

One of the landmark cinema moments is Sandler fighting Bob Barker. Lol It’s just amusing to see when amiable game show hosts agree to do a movie just to beat up Adam Sandler.

Jinyatta

Tommy Boy, Black Sheep. Billy Madison and The Waterboy are among my favorite Sandler movies

The score is in the negative because each hole has an expected number of shots you’re supposed to take to get it in. That’s called par. The best golf players take less shots to get in so their score is reflected as negative shots, aka how many shots less than par they hit. Most golf course have par at 72 shots. So a -8 score is someone who did the course with only 64 shots. Once you know that the terms make sense. Condor -4 Albatross -3 Eagle -2 Birdie -1 Par 0+ Bogey +1 Double Bogey +2 Triple Bogey +3

Golf is old money. Tennis is new money.

I hope this is a gateway movie to more sports films on the channel! Those golf tournament check amounts are legit for the 90s. Today, players on the pro tour earn even more. Golf is big business. Golf is also way more hoity toity than tennis, imo. You can play tennis with just a racket and a ball. Golf is way more expensive just to get started and then you have to pay every time you want to play. Much more exclusive... and some players really relish that fact.

Byron

The Wedding Singer is a solid watch, particularly given Simone’s appreciation for romantic comedy.

Jason Pratt

Not sure if you’ve watched the American sitcom Modern Family, but Claire is played by Julie Bowen, the same acres that played the PR manager Virginia.

8bitAndy

It made me really sad when they didn't know much about Bob Barker. He was a mainstay for so many generations it's depressing to think he'll soon be gone from pop culture knowledge.

Jeff K

Yep, golf is huge business. I remember in the '90s the sports section would often have the highest earners on the tour, and there were a few over a million for the year but not many. It was still a lot of money, just not nearly what it is these days. For example, the US Open just took place a couple weeks ago and the winner walked away with a $3.6m payday.

Adam

You both are ready for Little Nicky now.

Saliv-88

You guys are the first reactors I’ve seen be mortified by the conditions of the rest home. Fortunately, there is in fact a deleted scene wherein Happy attacks Ben Stiller’s character after hearing about how he treated the residents. XD

Robert Cooper

Re: Subway... Adam Sandler movies, especially from the 90s have always had just ridiculous product placements. "Little Nicky" damned near borders on being a Popeyes Chicken commercial with some jokes.

Tmatts

This fact always blows my mind because I swear she didn't age at all between the two gigs

Grumpy_Chef

Great reaction. I also love this movie. I think Yacht clubs and races like the America's Cup are the most "Hoity Toity". The amount of money just to be involved is a lot. While any of us could play Golf or Tennis.

Tmatts

You're both right, his comedy is basically yelling, singing, baby/weird voices, and toilet humor.

Jeff K

Which is what makes it so wild when he actually, like, *tries* as an actor because he's really, really good when he wants to be. But honestly, I don't begrudge him the terrible movies he usually makes because he readily admits he just makes most of them because 1) he gets paid a LOT of money for them, 2) they're always profitable, and, most importantly for him, it seems, 3) they allow him to keep his friends employed. He's got a pretty sweet gig honestly: "Hey, how would you like $50m to go to Hawaii to make a mediocre Netflix comedy with all of your friends?"

Connor Alexander

The older big guy (Happy's boss) is Richard Kiel. He had gigantism and was known for playing the James Bond villain, Jaws, in a number of films through the 70s and 80s. Apparently, he was a really kind, sweet, man in real life.

Connor Alexander

Thank you for this! I never knew this and the fact that Stiller got away with it always bugged me. I found the clip on YouTube. Much appreciated.

REDR58

I’ve always maintained that no matter how obnoxious product placement is, it’s better than having fake products in movies.

Jeff K

Among the pre-"trying to do some serious acting" Sandler films, Wedding Singer is by far the best, in terms of not just being juvenile, telling a decent story, letting Sandler emote, etc. (I love Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, but there's a very clear jump in overall quality from those to Wedding Singer.)

Andrew Charles

If you want to see Sandler do some actual acting, watch "Spanglish". The man can act - yet remain Sandler.

John Hartman

You guys absolutely have to do Caddyshack! Greatest golf movie ever 😂

Andrew Charles

If a hole is a "Par 3" hole, you score a birdie if you sink the ball in 2 strokes (1 under par), or a bogey if you sink the ball in four strokes (1 over par). If you sink the ball in 1 stroke that's a "hole-in-one" and you must now buy the entire roster a drink in the clubhouse.

Jeff K

And if your drive does not get past the women's tees you're supposed to play the rest of the hole with your dick out. (I'm not even kidding, I know people who abide by that; I've never done it because it's stupid but it's a very real thing some dudes do that has always seemed very strange to me.)

DS P

Full movie?

Brandon Meng

If you want to lean into absurd comedy Sandler, check out The Waterboy, which I'll always love. If you want legit good movie Sandler, please please please see Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. Someone else rec'd The Wedding Singer for a romcom, that's great as well. Plenty of things from Sandler worth checking out!

Happy Hanukkah

I cannot overstate how happy the image made me; we will finally get to see Simone's famous golf ball trick!!! :-|

OldBeardedGuyReacts

I worked at Subway at the time this came out....they DEFINITELY sponsored this movie pretty hard.

Andrew

Uncut Gems is another movie where Sandler absolutely kills a serious role. And that movie is intense, lol.

Ashwin Singh

Sandler usually sticks to goofy comedies, but his performance in Uncut Gems is absolutely incredible.

Mike

The guy who played Shooter McGavin has a twitter account for the character too.

Russ Verbofsky

The tall guy is 7'2" Richard Kiel. Being that tall does take a toll on the back.

Shaun renicks

I'm from Scotland where golf is from and still don't understand it

Logan Kerlee

This video is plain awesome! Super enjoyed watching this. :D

So, for a little over a year a whiles back, I actually had a job writing and directing a Mon-Fri online internet golf trivia contest. I knew nothing about the sport, really (outside of miniature golf) but really came to respect it once I learned more about the history. While I've never tried - and have no interest in - golfing on a full 18-hole course because golf is HARD!!!!, shorter 3-par courses are really fun, especially if your drinking the whole time. They usually only require 2 clubs - a putter and a wedge of some kind - and many times I've played, it's pretty much turned into how far over par we could get, based on increasing drunkenness (whenever possible), although it is a legit rush when you shoot under par on a hole. I highly suggest you give 3-par a try - and film it for our enjoyment! Also, with Simone's mention of missing Jason Bateman, if she, or you, too, George, haven't listened to his podcast 'Smartless' with Will Arnett and Sean Hayes, it's fantastic and hilarous. 'k, bye!

fallingupdownthere

I’ve played golf off and on since I was a kid. In 2012 I got really into it and played over 100 rounds between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Was able to get to a 10 handicap and best score was 82 (finished bogey/double). My worst round ever was the club championship that year. I shot 43/61 for a 104. Driver got a little wonky on the back and I went OB five times I think.
