Oh no, another excuse to rewatch this film. Oh gosh. Whatever will I do-*click play*

Jared Winn

Yay can’t wait to watch again

Philipp Roensch

Excited! Have to put it on the watchlist for now, waiting for the blu-ray.

Śéáń

I watched the digital release on the highest quality possible on my 4k laptop screen and it actually looks great, I would still recommend, however I will also be buying the Blu-ray when it comes out. I want every pixel possible.

Odd Thomas

I'll wait until it's not £100 to rent on Amazon, lol

djKENTO

well it’s 5:48am and I’ve been playing video games and smoking pot all night… and I was about to head to bed BUT… any excuse to watch Across The Spider-Verse is a good one!

So the real actual lady that Spot talked to in the convenience store is a reference to the Venom movies. Those movies could be so much better, but I think you guys would like the first one (2018) at least. The second one (2021) is pretty rough but I enjoyed it on a Spider-man fan level. Third one is due out in 2024 pending the strikes, and with the new Kraven (2024) movie being R I am hopeful they will allow Venom 3 the same latitude. We’ll see though.

So fun detail: When Spot is talking about how he brought the spider to Miles's universe, you get a quick shot that shows it walking towards Earth-42 Miles before being plucked. I think the implication is that it was meant to bite Earth-42 Miles, and our Miles stole that destiny from him, which makes their interaction at the end way more intense.

djKENTO

Our Miles got the Earth 42 spider which was meant for earth 42 miles. Nuevo York, where the Spider-Society is, that is Miguel’s earth which exists in the year 2099, hence him being Spider-Man 2099. Miguel found a year similar to his, disturbed that canon and destroyed that world, along with his doppelgänger’s children. He then returned to his own reality. Miguel is really just mad at himself and his own mistakes, but rather than have accountability he’s taking it out on Miles. As for the To Be Continued. When they announced this movie it was originally announced as Across the Spider-Verse parts 1 and 2. They then changed part 2 to Beyond the Spider-Verse which was slated to come out next year, but with the strikes that’s still up in the air. Shout out to Kris Anka who designed all the spider-suits, pulling inspiration from many that are canon or even fan creations, but several that are totally original. Also “Little Spider-Man” is Spectacular Spider-Man which is considered by many to be the best animated Spider-Man show. They even got the voice actor Josh Keaton to come back for him. It expected that Beyond the Spider-Verse will have live action Spider-Men in the film Like Toby, Tom and Andrew. Also live action Prowler/ Donald Glover is implied to be from Spider-Man Homecoming where he plays the same character and even mentions his nephew Miles.

Imran Sallay (He Forgot His Memory)

Man, what a visual treat this movie is. And it's not at the cost of substance either. This is a heavy, layered, spectacular spider-man movie

Joits

Amazing experience watching this movie and I've always been a fan of Lord & Miller so it was a letdown when news about the working conditions for the animators were not sustainable with over 100 artists quitting before the end of production and a lot of it to do with the management style of Phil Lord. Hopefully whenever the resume the production for the 3rd movie, they treat their staff better.

JokerDanny

You should watch ant-man and the wasp quantumania before loki season 2 starts. I also recommend Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 and another great movie is Elvis (2022)

Jacob

Miguel as someone already pointed out is from the universe where the spider society is. The reason he injects himself is a cool throwback to his actual canon story from his comic book, it's part of his story. In fact every spider character you see is in this movie is something real from the spider whatever history.

Truth

The universe that is the Spiderman headquarters with all the other Spiderman is Miguel's universe not Earth 42. He's Spiderman 2099 .

ChickensAreRacist

Dang George. It’s crazy interesting you didn’t have an apparent notion of what ‘grounding’ meant as a punishment for a kid. And Simone, well done explaining it. Simone, do you do stand up? Me and the wife think you’d be good at it.

Cinebinge

Just not a thing in China. Punishment there tends to be wacks with a belt or a feather bamboo duster followed by writing calligraphy a few hundred times 🤷‍♂️

Tyler Foster

Rental price will adjust to standard $5 or so the day the movie is released on physical media, which will be the Tuesday after next, September 5th. (This is an industry standard, BTW, so if you're ever wondering, this will hold true in the future too.)

Tyler Foster

I feel the Venom movies' current tone is something that was established with the original and set by the sequel, and there is no particular desire by Hardy or writer Kelly Marcel to make the Venom movies R-rated at this point. I would like to see alternate cuts, because I do remember at the time the first one came out, Hardy preferred a different version, and the second one really feels like it was cut to ribbons, but I also don't think there's any reason to expect the third movie to change course, especially if they plan on only doing a trilogy (which is the impression I've gotten).

Logan Kerlee

Wasn't able to watch closely at all with you two, so I may return later for another watch. Still really enjoyed this though! You both rock. :D

ChickensAreRacist

That was a really damn good movie. Can’t help but interpret it as suggesting it’s gonna be okay to break canon. Cuz they were talking also about stuff just happens and people go along and learn with it. So, even breaking canon… that’s normal.

Starromania72

Talk about commitment to an artistic motif: - a significant part of the movie is composed of Ben Day dots (comic book print) - the trans-dimensional collider energy is made up of Kirby dots (a technique used by Marvel founding father Jack Kirby using dots to depict crackling energy), sooo many Kirby dots. - then the ostensible Big Bad is... Spot (who I had no idea was almost 40 years old, definitely missed him back in the day)... dots gone bad... Apparently the medium is not just the message, it's also the antagonist.

Travis

Miguel is from 2099 that’s why he’s Spider-Man 2099. He’s from the universe that he’s actually in within the movie. He’s a futuristic Spider-Man. He can’t be from earth 42 because that takes place in the present.

Kevin Bartelen

Miguel did, when introducing Miles to the Spider-verse HQ, say welcome to my dimension. That certainly sounds to me like he's NOT from Earth 42 where Miles went.

Tanx

i don't know what platform you are watching on, but the vudu version comes with an Easter Egg featurette that covers a lot. like the ASM-90 event with captain Stacy comes from Amazing Spider-Man 90 where Captain Stacy was killed and Spider-Man failed to save him. there are even more easter eggs than the featurette actually covers too. like all the different versions in the hub. Loved this movie so much, I started building up my comic collection again. haven't bought comics since back in the day when I could go to CVS when I was middle school with $10 and come home with a handful of comics every Saturday. was way more into Xmen back then though. so ticked with myself for selling off some of my collections. rebuying Age of Apocalypse is killing my wallet. currently working through the Ultimate Universe and the Miles Morales Ultimate SM comics. so glad they put everything into omnibus collections now. so cannot wait for the next movie. Also there is a featurette with Dan Slott who wrote the Spiderverse comics. they used him as a consultant and he gives a pretty good interview. oh and you rewatch Spidermen chase scene there are two scenes with Spider-Woman Canada with her hockey stick.

peyten

miguel is NOT a villain, he is spiderman 2099, a hero just like the rest of them. he is from nueva york which is where the spider society is located, hence why he's the leader of it. he is not from earth 42 at all

Chase Schleich

A bunch of you in the comments have told Simone and George that Miles's spider wasn't meant for Miguel right? It was meant for the Peter or Miles from Earth 42. Miles of Earth 1610 (our Miles) got bit instead, so Earth 42 just doesn't have a Spider-Man at all.

Chase Schleich

Beyond did get delayed recently. It doesn't even have a release year now. Best estimate now is 2025. Sony says it's because of a back up in the animation production line. All animation/CGI departments are at 100% capacity and can't keep up with demand. It's causing delays in live action films as well and it's a major problem in Hollywood right now. Projects go to the lowest bidder which means companies are constantly working at a loss, causing them to go out of business and there just aren't enough CGI companies to keep things flowing smoothly.

Jacob King

Nothing more comic book than ending on a “to be continued”

Damian

Guardians of the galaxy vol 3 is amazing. Best Marvel movie in a long time. Quantumania was OK. Like most phase 4 and 5 films I felt I watched it just so I didn’t fall behind with Marvel shows. Definitely watch before Loki season 2.

Foodassassin4life

1610 Miles was supposed to be the Prowler but switched origins with Miles 42 When he got bit. If you go back and watch the first movie you can see the change of color palette from a Prowler color palette to a Spider-Man color palette when him and his Peter Parker first meet

AdNoctumLoki .

i freaking love this movie , i watched it every day and it does not get boring. It`s just beautiful.

romulo ladeira

hey George, this time the number 42 is not a reference to hitchhiker's guide galaxy, is homage to Jackie Robinson first black baseball player to play in on na major league team. He is also referenced in Lovecraft Country which is a amanzin show.

FischerMax98

Gonna watch this for the first time along with your reaction.

Persnickity

The voice of Spot is played by Karan Soni. You'll know him as Dopinder the taxi cab driver in the Deadpool movies. So they are breaking all the walls and the verses now

Philipp Roensch

Apart from clarifying the dimensions, comments are already helping :), I have a purely speculative theory where this could go: The Spot is the one that gone back and made all canon-breaks terrible for all Spider-Man, so once they get him, the canon can go freely again? I just in general also like the whole "non-canon is ok" meta commentary, which allows Miles to be his own character and should be accepted.

Odd Thomas

Another great Jason Schwartzman film is Klaus. Great xmas film - also animated.

Odd Thomas

The Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies are worth watching. The first one isn't amazing (irony) but I love LOVE the second one, mainly for the Hans Zimmer score.

jay

I’m assuming you meant to say Pavitr? Sorry I know I’m super late 🤣
